    Caracterización de la tolerancia a sequía en soya [Glycine max. (L.) Merr.] a través del esquema riego-sequía

    El objetivo del trabajo fue conocer el grado de tolerancia a sequía de diez genotipos intermedios de soya, mediante el esquema riego-sequía. El experimento se llevó a cabo en el Campo Experimental Las Huastecas del INIFAP, localizado en Altamira, Tamaulipas, durante el ciclo otoño-invierno 2012-2013. Se evaluaron dos variedades y ocho líneas avanzadas de soya. Para caracterizar la tolerancia a sequía se calcularon los índices: susceptibilidad al estrés (SSI), índice de tolerancia al estrés (STI), índice de rendimiento (YI), índice de estabilidad del rendimiento (YSI), productividad media geométrica (GMP), tolerancia al estrés (TOL) y productividad media (MP). Hubo diferencias significativas solamente en TOL y MP. Basado en TOL, H98-1021 perdió menos rendimiento al pasar de riego a sequía. En MP destacó H02-1656. Considerando la frecuencia con que un genotipo estuvo dentro del 30 % con los valores más altos en cada índice, H98-1240 sobresalió en seis de los siete índices calculados. Los índices más eficientes en la caracterización fueron ISS, GMP, TOL, STI y YSI, los cuales se proponen para que se utilicen de manera combinada para precisar la caracterización de genotipos de soya tolerantes a sequía

However, there are several pathways by means of which impulsive individuals are more prone to become addicts, or to suffer an addiction more intensely and for a longer period. One of those pathways involves an inadequate appraisal or regulation of positive and negative emotions, leading to lack of control over hazardous behaviors, and inappropriate decisions. In the present work, we assessed cocaine-dependent individuals (CDI; n = 20), pathological gamblers (PG; n = 21), and healthy controls (HC; n = 23) in trait impulsivity measures (UPPS-P model's dimensions), and decision-making tasks (Go/No-go; delay-discounting task). During the Go/No-go task, electroencephalographic (EEG) activity was recorded, and Go/No-go stimuli-evoked potentials (ERP) were extracted. Theory-driven ERP analyses focused on the No-go > Go difference in the N2 ERP. Our results show that negative urgency is one of the several psychological features that distinguish addicts from HC. Nevertheless, among the dimensions of trait impulsivity, negative urgency is unique at independently covarying with gambling over-pathologization in the PG sample. Cocaine-dependent individuals performed more poorly than gamblers in the Go/No-go task, and showed abnormal Go/No-go stimuli-evoked potentials. The difference between the No-go stimulus-evoked N2, and the Go one was attenuated by severity and intensity of chronic cocaine use.     Introduction: There is little evidence available on the efficacy and safety of biologic therapies for the treatment of psoriasis in Hispanic patients. Secukinumab is demonstrated to be highly effective for clearing psoriasis. The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy and safety of secukinumab in Hispanic and non-Hispanic patients. Methods: Data were pooled from four phase 3 studies of secukinumab in patients with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis. Patients who self-identified as Hispanic were included in the Hispanic subgroup.Results: Efficacy responses (Psoriasis Area and Severity Index [PASI] 75/90/100 and Investigator's Global Assessment 2011 modified version 0/1) for secukinumab 300 mg were greater than for etanercept at week 12 in the Hispanic and non-Hispanic patient subgroups. At week 12 with secukinumab 300 mg, PASI 90/100 responses were achieved by 70.6%/35.9% of Hispanic patients and 58.0%/28.1% of non-Hispanic patients. At week 12 with secukinumab 150 mg, PASI 90/100 responses were achieved by 59.5%/25.1% of Hispanic patients and 41.2%/13.4% of non-Hispanic patients. In both subgroups, peak efficacy responses with secukinumab were observed at week 16 and were maintained to week 52.Conclusions: Secukinumab is highly effective for clearing psoriasis in both Hispanic and non-Hispanic patients.Funding: Novartis Pharmaceutical Corporation

    El primer reporte de la roya asiática de la soya (Phakopsora pachyrhizi) en México fue en el 2005. Las pérdidas de rendimiento por la enfermedad oscilan entre el 25 y el 80 %, por lo que el uso del control químico constituye la estrategia principal para reducir el riesgo. Tamaulipas produce la mayor parte de soya en el país, pero también posee el período más largo con condiciones climáticas favorables para la infección del cultivo por el patógeno. Dado que todas las variedades de soya que se cultivan en México son susceptibles a la roya asiática, el costo por la aplicación de fungicidas es elevado. La siembra de variedades de soya resistentes a la roya asiática se considera la estrategia más rentable para su manejo. El presente trabajo muestra los avances  en el  estudio de la roya asiática de la soya en México, considerando los puntos: descubrimiento y dispersión de la roya asiática de la soya, sintomatología y condiciones para el desarrollo del  patógeno,  estrategias de manejo para su  control  y estudios de patogenicidad y resistencia genética a P. pachyrhizi

    Reproductive and seminal characteristics of Pelibuey rams infected with Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis in the subclinical stage

    Objective: To evaluate the reproductive and seminal characteristics of Pelibuey rams infected with Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis in the subclinical phase. Design/methodology/approach: In order to determine whether paratuberculosis (PTB) affects the reproductive variables and seminal quality in Pelibuey rams naturally infected with Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (MAP) in the subclinical phase, weekly evaluations were conducted, over a period of two months, of the variables live weight, scrotal circumference, ejaculation latency and seminal characteristics: volume, pH, masal motility and progressive individual motility, concentration, live spermatozoids and dead spermatozoids, in five rams infected by MAP and a further five uninfected rams, of average weight and age 53.58 kg (± 3.26) and 2.91 years (± 0.59), respectively. Results: PTB was not found to affect the reproductive and seminal variables evaluated. Limitations of the study/implications: It would have been convenient to carry out the evaluation of the seminal characteristics for a longer time, however, the sampling was stopped in order to ensure the animal welfare of the rams as far as possible, since they began to show signs of PTB. Findings/Conclusions: The Pelibuey rams diagnosed with PTB in subclinical phase did not present any effect on the reproductive and seminal characteristics.     The Latin American experience of allografting patients with severe aplastic anaemia: real-world data on the impact of stem cell source and ATG administration in HLA-identical sibling transplants

    We studied 298 patients with severe aplastic anaemia (SAA) allografted in four Latin American countries. The source of cells was bone marrow (BM) in 94 patients and PBSCs in 204 patients. Engraftment failed in 8.1% of recipients with no difference between BM and PBSCs (P = 0.08). Incidence of acute GvHD (aGvHD) for BM and PBSCs was 30% vs 32% (P = 0.18), and for grades III–IV was 2.6% vs 11.6% (P = 0.01). Chronic GvHD (cGvHD) between BM and PBSCs was 37% vs 59% (P = 0.002) and extensive 5% vs 23.6% (P = 0.01). OS was 74% vs 76% for BM vs PBSCs (P = 0.95). Event-free survival was superior in patients conditioned with anti-thymocyte globulin (ATG)-based regimens compared with other regimens (79% vs 61%, P = 0.001) as excessive secondary graft failure was seen with other regimens (10% vs 26%, P = 0.005) respectively. In multivariate analysis, aGvHD II–IV (hazard ratio (HR) 2.50, confidence interval (CI) 1.1–5.6, P = 0.02) and aGvHD III–IV (HR 8.3 CI 3.4–20.2, Po0.001) proved to be independent negative predictors of survival. In conclusion, BM as a source of cells and ATG-based regimens should be standard because of higher GvHD incidence with PBSCs, although the latter combining with ATG in the conditioning regimen could be an option in selected high-risk patient
