Conventional and advanced exergoeconomic indicators of a nitric acid production plant concerning the cooling temperature in compression Train's intermediate stages

In the refining and petrochemical industrial sector, large amounts of energy are used, so using the concept of exergy allows a rational use of this resource. In the different exergy and exergoeconomics studies applied in petrochemical plants, parameters of interest have been determined to evaluate the thermal efficiency, the potential for process improvement, the irreversibilities produced by the interaction between the components of the system and the operation of each one, and the energy costs associated with each of these irreversibilities. This paper presents an advanced exergy analysis and an exergy-economic analysis applied to a nitric acid production plant with an installed capacity of 350 metric tons per day, whose operating principle is based on the Ostwald method, and both the behavior of endogenous exergy destruction and the behavior of exogenous, avoidable and unavoidable exergy destruction are studied, exogenous, avoidable and unavoidable exergy destruction and the associated exergy costs in each of the heat transfer equipment and reactive equipment that make up the plant, about the cooling temperature in the intermediate stages of the compression train are studied using a mathematical model. The chemical reactions involved in the production process are the points of interest in the research of this work. Some of the results show that 54 % of the total exergy destruction can be recovered by intervening in the components. On the other hand, in the Catalytic Converter (CONV), it is convenient to consider the investment costs to reduce the exergy destruction costs. Similarly, in the Tail Gas Heater (TGH), it is beneficial to reduce the total investment to improve the process economics. On the other hand, the cost of exergy destruction of the plant resulted in 770.77 USD/h. In addition, it could be determined that the interactions between the components significantly affect the investment costs

Determination of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB’s) in workers of a company in the electricity sector. Barranquilla - Atlantic, 2017

Introducción: Se determinó Bifenilos Policlorados (PCB’s) en sangre y pruebas de función orgánica para evaluación de la salud en trabajadores de una empresa del sector eléctrico. Métodos: Fueron seleccionados 61 trabajadores de la empresa Electricaribe S.A de Barranquilla, 30 expuestos al PCB’s y 31 no expuestos, mayores de 18 años, sin patología establecida y que firmaron el consentimiento informado. Se analizó: glicemia, perfil lipidico, creatinina, nitrógeno ureico (BUN), bilirrubinas, fosfatasa alcalina, transaminasas pirúvica y oxaloacética, gamma-glutamiltranspeptidasa, T3, T4, hormona estimulante de la tiroides (TSH). Para la detección de PCB’s, se utilizó un cromatógrafo de gases HP 5890 series II (Hewlett Packard), detector de captura de electrones (EDC) y columna DB-5 (30m x 0.25mm x 0.25μm). Los datos fueron procesados con el software Minitab 15, nivel de confianza 95%. Resultados: Se encontró que el 100% de trabajadores examinados presentaron cifras de PCB’s inferiores al valor límite mínimo de detección del método cromatográfico utilizado: 4 μg/L de PCB’s, y evaluaciones clínicas negativas para cualquier daño orgánico. Conclusiones: No se encontró diferencia significativa en los resultados obtenidos entre trabajadores expuestos y no expuestos al PCB’s. Introduction: Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB’s) in blood and tests of organic function for evaluation of the health in workers of a company of the electrical sector were determined. It was analyzed: glycemia, lipid profile, creatinine, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), bilirrubin, alkaline phosphatase, pyruvic and oxaloacetic transaminase, gamma-glutamyltranspeptidase, T3, T4, thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). For detection of PCB’s, a chromatograph HP 5890 series II gas (Hewlett Packard), electron capture detector (EDC) and DB-5 column (30 m x 0.25 mm x 0.25 μm) was used. The data were processed with Minitab 15 software, 95% confidence level. Results: It was found that 100% of workers examined showed PCB’s values lower than the minimum limit value of detection of the chromatographic method used: 4 μg / L of PCB’s, and negative clinical evaluations for any organic damage. Conclusions: No significant difference in the results between exposed and unexposed to the PCB’s workers.&nbsp

Information and Communication Technologies, as a strategy to promote academic interest in students

Teniendo en cuenta la incidencia de las nuevas tecnologías en la educación de hoy, el propósito de la presente investigación radica en implementar las tecnologías de la información y la comunicación TIC en el aula de clase para fomentar el interés académico en los estudiantes de la IED Fundación. Metodológicamente la investigación se orientó desde una mirada Cualitativa, bajo el paradigma sociocritico; la unidad de análisis estuvo constituida por cuarenta (40) estudiantes del grado octavo entre las edades de catorce (14) quince (15) y dieciséis (16) años; como técnica de recolección de información se utilizó la observación participante, como instrumento de recolección, el diario de campo; a partir de las actividades desarrolladas con la implementación de las TIC en el aula de clase se encontró que los estudiantes presentan mayores niveles de motivación e interés por aprender, mejorando significativamente su promedio de notas cuándo se trabajan los contenidos curriculares articulados con estasTaking into account the incidence of new information and communication technologies in education today, the purpose of research in the implementation of information technology and communication students of the IED Foundation.
