League of Conservation Voters v. Trump: A Potential Blueprint to Challenging Environmental Policy Rollbacks

    Get PDF
This Comment examines the recently rejected motion to dismiss in League of Conservation Voters v. Trump and its potential to serve as a roadmap for environmental organizations seeking to challenge regulatory rollbacks by the Trump administration. In 2017, President Donald Trump issued an executive order reversing the designation of 128 million acres of ocean as protected from oil and gas leasing. The League of Conservation Voters, along with other environmental activists, sued to enjoin the rollback, and administration officials subsequently filed a motion to dismiss. This Comment focuses on the issue of Article III standing in the case, wherein the plaintiffs must allege (1) an injury in fact that is (2) fairly traceable to the challenged conduct and (3) that a favorable judicial decision will likely redress. Prior to League of Conservation Voters, case law had not established injury in fact on the basis of potential harm to public lands caused by government deregulation. Thus, the ruling that such an injury can be established—even over an area 128 million acres in size—reflects an opportunity for environmental activists attempting to stop rollbacks

The MHV Lagrangian for a spontaneously broken gauge theory

Starting from the standard Lagrangian for a SU(2) x U(1) gauge theory plus a Higgs field we derive the corresponding "maximal helicity violating" (MHV) Lagrangian. From this MHV Lagrangian one deduces simple diagrammatic rules for the calculation of multi-particle scattering amplitudes. We arrive at the MHV Lagrangian by a canonical change of the field variables in the light-cone gauge. We comment on the modifications which occur in a spontaneously broken gauge theory as compared to a pure (unbroken) Yang-Mills theory.Comment: 29 page

Unified phase diagram of models exhibiting neutral-ionic transition

We have studied the neutral-ionic transition in organic mixed-stack compounds. A unified model has been derived which, in limiting cases, is equivalent to the models proposed earlier, the donor-acceptor model and the ionic Hubbard model. Detailed numerical calculations have been performed on this unified model with the help of the density-matrix renormalization-group (DMRG) procedure calculating excitation gaps, ionicity, lattice site entropy, two-site entropy, and the dimer order parameter on long chains and the unified phase diagram has been determined.Comment: 11 pages, 8 figure

Getting Things in Order: An Introduction to the R Package seriation

    Get PDF
Seriation, i.e., finding a suitable linear order for a set of objects given data and a loss or merit function, is a basic problem in data analysis. Caused by the problem's combinatorial nature, it is hard to solve for all but very small sets. Nevertheless, both exact solution methods and heuristics are available. In this paper we present the package seriation which provides an infrastructure for seriation with R. The infrastructure comprises data structures to represent linear orders as permutation vectors, a wide array of seriation methods using a consistent interface, a method to calculate the value of various loss and merit functions, and several visualization techniques which build on seriation. To illustrate how easily the package can be applied for a variety of applications, a comprehensive collection of examples is presented.

    Electric tricycle

The aim of this study was to design and build complete control and information systems using microprocessors ATMEGA644P for electric tricycle. This tricycle was created rebuilt old motorcycle Jawa 50 – Pioneer. Electric tricycle is capable of not only its own motion , but its management and information system is able to evaluate if the batteries are depleted, what the temperature is cooler controller that is open cabinet with batteries or with the regulator . Furthermore, they are controlled by a microprocessor relays that switch eg . Blinkers , cooling on regulátor, etc. All information are displayed on the control panel LCD Display, panel voltmeter and control lights

The aim of this bachelor’s thesis was to acquaint with techniques and technologies used in the control and visualization of technologic processes. The industrial PC, PLC and Automation Panels from the company B&R was used on control of the technologic process in laboratory E541. Designed and implemented control algorithm contains three discrete controllers. The standard OPC is used for communication. Visualization for control workplace is created in the Program Control Web. Visualizations for operator workstations are created in the program Automation Studio. These visualizations are used to transfer information from the technological process.
