    A review of host plants for the tortricid tribe Grapholitini, with a synopsis of host utilization by genus (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae)

    A database of larval host plants for the tortricid tribe Grapholitini (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae: Ole­threutinae) is presented, and larval hosts are summarized for each genus. Food plants have been reported for over 400 of the approximately 1,644 described species of Grapholitini. Of the 81 genera currently as­signed to the tribe, at least one larval host has been reported for 51. Ninety-seven different plant families have been reported at least once for a species of Grapholitini, with the greatest number of grapholitines recorded from Fabaceae (168 species), followed by Fagaceae (43 species), Pinaceae (43), Sapindaceae (36), Rosaceae (30), Asteraceae (30), Euphorbiaceae (15), Rutaceae (12), Annonaceae (12), Salicaceae (11), and Cupressaceae (11). Thirty-two genera appear to be restricted, or nearly so, to specific host families, but many of these are either monotypic or are represented by exceedingly few records. Extraordinarily, entomophagy is well documented in three genera: Andrioplecta, Coccothera, and Parapammene. Two new combinations are provisionally proposed based on hosts and male genitalia: Andrioplecta magnetica (Meyrick, 1928), new combination, and A. theristis (Meyrick, 1912), new combination, both of which are currently assigned to “Grapholitini unplaced species.

    Biclonuncaria recurvana, new species (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae: Polyorthini), is described and il­lustrated from Area de Conservación Guanacaste in northwestern Costa Rica. It is most similar to B. conica Razowski, 1993, from Mexico, but the two are easily distinguished by features of the male genitalia. Biclo­nuncaria recurvana has been reared (n = 12 specimens) from field-collected larvae feeding on the leaves of Dalbergia glomerata Hemsley (Fabaceae), consistent with the previously reported host plant for B. dalbergiae Razowski and Becker, 1993, which has been reared from Dalbergia in Brazil

    Trumpet slices of the Schwarzschild-Tangherlini spacetime

    We study families of time-independent maximal and 1+log foliations of the Schwarzschild-Tangherlini spacetime, the spherically-symmetric vacuum black hole solution in D spacetime dimensions, for D >= 4. We identify special members of these families for which the spatial slices display a trumpet geometry. Using a generalization of the 1+log slicing condition that is parametrized by a constant n we recover the results of Nakao, Abe, Yoshino and Shibata in the limit of maximal slicing. We also construct a numerical code that evolves the BSSN equations for D=5 in spherical symmetry using moving-puncture coordinates, and demonstrate that these simulations settle down to the trumpet solutions.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figures, submitted to PR
