Design approaches in technology enhanced learning
Design is a critical to the successful development of any interactive learning environment (ILE). Moreover, in technology enhanced learning (TEL), the design process requires input from many diverse areas of expertise. As such, anyone undertaking tool development is required to directly address the design challenge from multiple perspectives. We provide a motivation and rationale for design approaches for learning technologies that draws upon Simon's seminal proposition of Design Science (Simon, 1969). We then review the application of Design Experiments (Brown, 1992) and Design Patterns (Alexander et al., 1977) and argue that a patterns approach has the potential to address many of the critical challenges faced by learning technologists
Verslag workshops Friese Veenweidevisie
Structural basis for CRISPR RNA-guided DNA recognition by Cascade
The CRISPR (clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats) immune system in prokaryotes uses small guide RNAs to neutralize invading viruses and plasmids. In Escherichia coli, immunity depends on a ribonucleoprotein complex called Cascade. Here we present the composition and low-resolution structure of Cascade and show how it recognizes double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) targets in a sequence-specific manner. Cascade is a 405-kDa complex comprising five functionally essential CRISPR-associated (Cas) proteins (CasA1B2C6D1E1) and a 61-nucleotide CRISPR RNA (crRNA) with 5âČ-hydroxyl and 2âČ,3âČ-cyclic phosphate termini. The crRNA guides Cascade to dsDNA target sequences by forming base pairs with the complementary DNA strand while displacing the noncomplementary strand to form an R-loop. Cascade recognizes target DNA without consuming ATP, which suggests that continuous invader DNA surveillance takes place without energy investment. The structure of Cascade shows an unusual seahorse shape that undergoes conformational changes when it binds target DNA.

Assessment of alternatives to correct inventory difference statistical treatment deficiencies
This document presents an analysis of alternatives to correct deficiencies in the statistical treatment of inventory differences in the NRC guidance documents and licensee practice. Pacific Northwest Laboratory's objective for this study was to assess alternatives developed by the NRC and a panel of safeguards statistical experts. Criteria were developed for the evaluation and the assessment was made considering the criteria. The results of this assessment are PNL recommendations, which are intended to provide NRC decision makers with a logical and statistically sound basis for correcting the deficiencies
Ukuran Perusahaan, Winner/loser Stock, Debt to Equity Ratio, Dividend Payout Ratio Pengaruh Terhadap Perataan Laba
Income smoothing is an effort in controlling earnings management to increase or decrease the company\u27s earnings to reduce fluctuations in earnings. This study aimed to examine the effect of the firm size, winner/loser stock, debt to equity ratio, dividend payout ratio to income smoothing. The population in this study is a manufacturing company that is listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) in the period 2010-2013. The sample was selected using purposive sampling technique and acquired 29 manufacturing companies as sample with 116 observations. The analysis technique used in this study is a multiple regression analysis using SPSS.Results The investigations showed that the firm size and winner/loser stocks have significant influence on income smoothing, while debt to equity ratio and dividend payout ratio does not significantly affect income smoothing

yet we often are unaware of it. The need to keep track of the
knowledge acquired through informal learning is increasing as its
sources become increasingly diverse. This paper presents a study
on a tool developed to help keeping track of learnersâ informal
learning, both within academic and professional contexts, This
tool, developed within the European Commission funded
TRAILER project, will further integrate the improvements
suggested by users during the piloting phase. The two studied
contexts were similar regarding the importance and perception of
Informal Learning, but differed concerning tool usage. The overall
idea of managing oneâs informal learning was well accepted and
welcomed, which validated the emerging need for a tool with this
purpose.Tagging, Recognition and Acknowledgment of Informal Learning ExpeRiences project (TRAILER) that is funded by the European Commission's Lifelong Learning Programme. Wheat amylase/trypsin inhibitors (ATIs): occurrence, function and health aspects
Amylase/trypsin inhibitors (ATIs) are widely consumed in cereal-based foods and have been implicated in adverse reactions to wheat exposure, such as respiratory and food allergy, and intestinal responses associated with coeliac disease and non-coeliac wheat sensitivity. ATIs occur in multiple isoforms which differ in the amounts present in different types of wheat (including ancient and modern ones). Measuring ATIs and their isoforms is an analytical challenge as is their isolation for use in studies addressing their potential effects on the human body. ATI isoforms differ in their spectrum of bioactive effects in the human gastrointestinal (GI), which may include enzyme inhibition, inflammation and immune responses and of which much is not known. Similarly, although modifications during food processing (exposure to heat, moisture, salt, acid, fermentation) may affect their structure and activity as shown in vitro, it is important to relate these changes to effects that may present in the GI tract. Finally, much of our knowledge of their potential biological effects is based on studies in vitro and in animal models. Validation by human studies using processed foods as commonly consumed is warranted. We conclude that more detailed understanding of these factors may allow the effects of ATIs on human health to be better understood and when possible, to be ameliorated, for example by innovative food processing. We therefore review in short our current knowledge of these proteins, focusing on features which relate to their biological activity and identifying gaps in our knowledge and research priorities
TRAILER: A Tool for Managing Informal Learning
Even though informal learning plays an important role in everyoneâs life, not everyone is aware of its importance. These informal activities contribute to the development of self-regulated learning that can help productivity in different environments. As this kind of apprentices grow, the need to keep track of this developed knowledge is becoming vital. This paper presents a study on the perception and usage of a tool that would help keeping track of learnersâ informal learning. This study was conducted both within academic and professional contexts and was developed within the European Commission funded TRAILER project. The contexts were similar regarding the importance and perception of informal learning, but differed concerning tool usage and the usefulness of such a platform. The overall idea of managing oneâs informal learning was well accepted and welcomed, which validated the emerging need for a tool with this purpose
