Influential Article Review - Innovation and Business Outsourcing in Tunisia

    Get PDF
This paper examines innovation. We present insights from a highly influential paper. Here are the highlights from this paper: Recently, outsourcing services has been an important component of the organizational strategy of service firms. However, most research studies mainly focus on analyzing the determining factors of outsourcing at the expense of its structural effects. The aim of this paper is to examine the extent to which outsourcing relationships can be a source of service innovation by using a sample of 108 Tunisian service firms. Specifically, we are interested in the domestic outsourcing of auxiliary activities. Our results support the evidence of positive effects of outsourcing service activities on the capacity of innovation. This suggests that outsourcing allows Tunisian service firms to create value, increase flexibility and improve the quality of their services. For our overseas readers, we then present the insights from this paper in Spanish, French, Portuguese, and German

History and Current Status of the Inca Dove (Columbina inca) in Arkansas

    Get PDF
Formerly a bird of Central America, Mexico, and the southwestern United States, the Inca Dove (Columbina inca) has been expanding northward across North America in the past few decades. It first appeared in Arkansas on October 26, 1968 in Saratoga, Howard County. Since then, the statewide range has grown to include at least 36 of 75 counties and is expanding. With the use of Christmas Bird Counts, Breeding Bird Surveys, and two citizen science sources, eBird and AR-Birds, we compiled 368 records of the species in the state. Inca Doves were observed year-round in Arkansas and are expanding its range in the state at an average rate of about one new county every 7 years and 1 new annual encounter about every year. An overview of its overall range in North America indicates that there is enough data to warrant a redrawing of the range map for the species to include most of Arkansas

Properties of music used pre-match by rugby teams and players’ perceptions of its effects

In recent years sports science has shown a considerable interest in how athletes can use music to produce a greater athletic performance. By comparison, musicology has sadly done little in this area of research. Sports science research has considerably furthered the understanding of how music can be used to alter athletes’ perceptions of, and improve athletic performance. The research has shown that this impact comes from the psychological and psychophysical influence that music is capable of. However, most studies have been based on singular athletes and in a testing or laboratory environment. Furthermore, research has overlooked competitive team settings and musicologically-focused analysis in studies, therefore limiting ecological validity and findings based on motivational musical qualities in sports. This study focused on addressing the aforementioned limitations. A competitive rugby team was interviewed based on their use of music during their pre-match routine, and completed the BMRI task based on two songs that they use. The songs were subject to a musicologically-focused analytical method to identify the particular musical qualities responsible for the motivational effects that the players reported. The study found that within the social context of a team setting, the shared listening experience amongst the players can considerably impact the teams’ arousal. It also found that intrinsic musical qualities can be influential on an athletes’ perception of arousal. However, it offers a considerable avenue for future research, as it suggests extrinsic qualities of music to have a greater impact within a team setting

Design of the iLocater Acquisition Camera Demonstration System

Existing planet-finding spectrometers are limited by systematic errors that result from their seeing-limited design. Of particular concern is the use of multi-mode fibers (MMFs), which introduce modal noise and accept significant amounts of background radiation from the sky. We present the design of a single-mode fiber-based acquisition camera for a diffraction-limited spectrometer named "iLocater." By using the "extreme" adaptive optics (AO) system of the Large Binocular Telescope (LBT), iLocater will overcome the limitations that prevent Doppler instruments from reaching their full potential, allowing precise radial velocity (RV) measurements of terrestrial planets around nearby bright stars. The instrument presented in this paper, which we refer to as the acquisition camera "demonstration system," will measure on-sky single-mode fiber (SMF) coupling efficiency using one of the 8.4m primaries of the LBT in fall 2015
