Holocaust photography: Iconic and imagined images

An examination of the use of photography in authenticating historical events, especially the Holocaust, reveals that the re-shaping and re-defining of Holocaust photographic post-memories continues to be redefined in each new generation in America. While in the years post-Holocaust the focus was on documentary photographic evidence, currently, within the United States, the focus of these images is less on documentation of the actual events, and more on the remembrance and public awareness of the Holocaust through the use of reassemblage, Photoshop and artistic recreation of photographic images. Contemporary artists and Secondary Witnesses are constantly coming up with new ways to keep the Holocaust at the forefront of their audiences' mind through exhibitions and shows.
