Black Men Teaching in Urban Schools

    Get PDF
This volume follows eleven Black male teachers from an urban, predominantly Black school district to reveal a complex set of identity politics and power dynamics that complicate these teachers’ relationships with students and fellow educators. It provides new and important insights into what it means to be a Black male teacher and suggests strategies for school districts, teacher preparation programs, researchers and other stakeholders to rethink why and how we recruit and train Black male teachers for urban K-12 classrooms

Viktor Orbán: The EU’s Biggest Bully

    Get PDF
The purpose of this paper is to show how Prime Minister Viktor Orbán of Hungary, as a leader of EU member state, has damaged the EU’s normative power and exposed preexisting flaws within the EU system of governance. In my paper, I delve into how Orbán has impacted EU foreign policy in recent years, becoming the EU’s “problem child” regarding several current issues. Additionally, I argue that he has helped embolden other EU countries in their illiberalism. I provide analysis for each of these cases to support my main argument that Orbán damages the EU’s normative power. In the final section of my paper, I discuss how Orbán could impact the EU’s future, especially how the EU will handle Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. I conclude by providing two courses of action that the EU can take in face of the challenge that Orbán is posing

    The 1996 AISI Specification

    Get PDF
The first edition of the AISI specification was adopted in 1946. Thus, the new specification represents fifty years of progress in the formal structural application of cold-formed steel. The continued efforts of the Committee on Specifications and the sponsorship of the American Iron and Steel Institute have made this fifty years of progress in cold-formed steel a reality. The new specification combines ASD and LRFD provisions in a single document. This affords the design engineer the opportunity to become familiar with both methods and facilitates the use of whichever method is preferred. In addition, the new specification includes a number of new or revised provisions based on the results of continuing research

The 1999 Supplement to the AISI Design Specification

    Get PDF
The AISI Committee on Specifications for Cold-Formed Steel recently developed Supplement No. 1 to the 1996 Specification for the Design of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members. The Supplement reflects new information developed through research projects, brings provisions in agreement with other specifications where appropriate, and also provides certain clarifications and corrections. The Supplement and the Specification have both been recently accepted as ANSI standards. The present paper reviews the major items included in the Supplement. The Committee continues to sponsor research projects aimed at developing a better understanding of particular areas of cold-formed steel behavior and more comprehensive design rules. Projects currently underway or recently completed are listed. As a result of a collaborative effort with representatives from Canada and Mexico, it is anticipated that the next edition of the specification will be referred to as the AISI North American Specification for the Design of Cold-Formed Steel Members

This comment argues that fair use analysis should be reorganized from a disjointed four-factor morass into a straightforward two-part analysis that incorporates and clarifies the purpose of each of the four factors. Such a structure recognizes the role transformative use plays within the fair use doctrine as a whole. The comment then applies this process to a potential fair use defense for Richard Prince\u27s The Catcher in the Rye

Since the publication of the 2007 editions, changes and additions have been made to AISI design and construction standards. Accordingly, new editions of the standards, or supplements to existing standards, will be published to formalize these changes. This paper provides an overview of the major changes and additions to those standards
