Occurrence of Acanthamoeba in hospitals: a literature review

Acanthamoeba are among the most prevalent environmental protozoans and have a cosmopolitan distribution. The main concern for public health purposes is that they can also be isolated from contact lenses, storage cases and cleaning solutions, ventilation and air conditioning systems, dental treatment units, dialysis units, emergency showers and eyewash stations. These genera include a diversity of pathogenic microorganisms that leads to infectious diseases inside the hospital environment, and it is of the utmost importance to carry out the surveillance, considering mainly the immunocompromised patients, which are more susceptible to these diseases. The level of human health risk and its associations in the hospital environment is unknown, and part of this problem is potentially the lack of correlation between protozoan exposure and symptom onset, which each patient can develop at different periods in time. Studies on the ecology and distribution of non-enteric pathogens in the hospital environment are necessary to understand their potential threat to human health. Thus, this review presents a current overview of the presence of Acanthamoeba spp. in hospital environments aiming to verify their presence in these environments, and look for effective ways to control their presence through disinfection and monitoring measures

Innovation ecosystems for industry 4.0 : a collaborative perspective for the provision of digital technologies and platforms

Industry 4.0 considers complex interrelated IoT-based technologies for the provision of digital solutions. This complexity demands a vast set of capabilities that are hard to be found in a single technology provider, especially in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Innovation ecosystems allow SMEs to integrate resources and cocreate Industry 4.0 solutions. This thesis investigates the role of collaboration for the development of technologies and solutions in the Industry 4.0 context. To this end, this thesis was organized into three papers, which objectives are: (i) to verify if collaboration through inbound Open Innovation activities with different actors in the supply chain positively moderates the relationship between Industry 4.0 technologies and their expected benefits; (ii) to identify how the characteristics of an innovation ecosystem focused on solutions for Industry 4.0 change at each evolutionary lifecycle stage using elements from social exchange theory; and (iii) to identify which technologies can be configured as platforms through boundary-spanning activities and how they operate collaboratively to develop solutions for Industry 4.0. As a result, this thesis proposes a model that explains the role of collaboration at different levels (supply chains, ecosystems, and platforms) for the development of solutions in the Industry 4.0 context. This research approach combines both qualitative (i.e., focus group, interviews, and case studies) and quantitative (i.e., survey research with multivariate data analysis) aspects. The main results obtained are: (i) we show how collaboration with different actors in the supply chain through Open Innovation strategy has both positive and negative impacts on three strategies associated with product development (cost reduction, focalization, and innovation); (ii) we define the main characteristics of innovation ecosystems focused on the provision of Industry 4.0 solutions, considering an evolutionary lifecycles perspective and a Social Exchange view (iii) we define which are the different technology platforms of the Industry 4.0 context at different operation levels using Boundary-Spanning view. As remarking conclusions, from an academic perspective, these results help to understand how collaboration for the development of new solutions in Industry 4.0 can be analyzed under different perspectives (Open Innovation, Social Exchange Theory, and Boundary-Spanning) and in different contexts of integration (supply chains, ecosystems, and platforms). From a practical perspective, the results help to enlighten a trending business topic by showing how the collaboration among technology providers for Industry 4.0 should be fostered and developed

Produção de texto de divulgação científica sobre o controle biológico conservativo para crianças

Os insetos são seres vivos de importância econômica e ecológica, tendo em vista sua presença em muitas relações com o homem que podem ser benéficas ou prejudiciais. O desequilíbrio ambiental é o causador da proliferação de insetos pragas em lavouras agríco las. A fim de evitar a aplicação de agrotóxicos é necessário preservar a biodiversidade de insetos nativos na área de cultivo tornando - o sustentável. O Controle Biológico Conservativo (CBC), baseia - se no manejo do ambiente a fim de favorecer os inimigos na turais das pragas agrícolas. O estudo da entomologia no Ensino Fundamental é capaz de expandir o conhecimento do aluno a uma visão sistêmica através do CBC. O principal objetivo foi a elaboração de um texto de divulgação científica para uso em sala de aula como material pedagógico para o Ensino Fundamental sobre Controle Biológico Conservativo. A pesquisa exploratória foi realizada através de levantamento bibliográfico e aplicação de um questionário disponibilizado pelas redes sociais para obter informações sobre o conhecimento do público sobre CBC. As respostas de 63 participantes foram analisadas. O perfil dos participantes foi entre a faixa etária de 19 a 72 anos, sendo 81,25% das respostas femininas. Quanto ao grau de escolaridade, 41% apresentaram curs o Superior Incompleto. Com esta pesquisa foi concluído que a maioria das pessoas questionadas não tem o conhecimento sobre o CBC, pois 23 nunca ouviram falar e 19 ouviram falar, mas não sabem o que significa, ou seja, das 63 respostas, um total de 42 parti cipantes não têm conhecimento da importância dos insetos para a agricultura. Com este dado fica evidente que o uso do texto de divulgação científica a respeito da utilização dos insetos no CBC tem fundamental importância visto que 70% das pessoas que respo nderam desconhecem esse fenômeno natural, o qual, pode contribuir com a preservação e o uso correto da natureza.Insects are living organisms of economic and ecological importance, given their presence in many relationships with humans that can be beneficial or harmful. The environmental imbalance is the cause of the proliferation of insect pests in agricul tural crops. In order to avoid the application of pesticides, it is necessary to preserve the biodiversity of native insects in crop areas, making it sustainable. Conservative Biological Control (CBC) is based on the management of the environment in order to favor the natural enemies of agricultural pests. The study of entomology in primary school is able to expand the student's knowledge to a systemic view through the CBC. The main objective was the elaboration of a scientific text for use in the classroom as pedagogical material for primary education on Conservative Biological Control. ntrol. The exploratory research was carried out through a bibliographic survey and application of a questionnaire made available by social networks to obtain information of the public's knowledge about CBC. The responses of 63 participants were analyzed. The profile of the participants was between the age group of 19 to 72 years, with 81.25% were women. As for the level of education, 41% had incomplete higher education. With this re search, we concluded that most of the people questioned do not have knowledge about the CBC, as 23 have never heard of it and 19 have heard about it, but do not know what it means, that is, of the 63 answers, a total of 42 participants do not have knowledg e of the importance of insects to agriculture. With this data, it is evident that the use of the scientific popularization text regarding the use of insects in the CBC is of fundamental importance since 70% of the people who responded are unaware of this n atural phenomenon, which can contribute to the preservation and correct use of the species. nature

Democratização da gestão nas escolas públicas brasileiras em uma abordagem discursiva

O presente artigo apresenta uma discussão sobre a consagração da gestão democrática no sistema público de ensino brasileiro e suas implicações para o trabalho docente. Para tanto, buscamos traçar como esse modo de gestão tem atuado na organização do trabalho desses profissionais através de deslizamentos semânticos, em termos de uma proposta democrática. Inicialmente, discorremos sobre os embates da gestão escolar no que diz respeito às influências das concepções da administração clássica na organização desta até o momento do processo de redemocratização do país que foi marcado pela implementação das políticas neoliberais. Nesta transição, interessou-nos investigar como a proposta democrática de gestão relaciona-se com as políticas educacionais de cunho neoliberal. Trata-se de um estudo de cunho bibliográfico que se pautou em contribuições da Teoria do Discurso desenvolvida por Ernesto Laclau para a análise dos dados. Assim, concluímos ser necessária a construção de novos significados para o processo de gestão das escolas, na qual os profissionais da educação desenvolvam a investigação sobre novas formas de partilha do controle das regras discursivas e da estrutura curricular, pois se acredita que a gestão democrática - ao se estabelecer como normativa para o ensino público – pode contribuir com a construção de espaços contra-hegemônicos para que o processo de gestão escola e do conhecimento torne-se, radicalmente, democrático. Palavras-chave: Trabalho docente.
