Semantic Sentence Similarity for Intent Recognition Task
An intent recognition module is a core component of any question-answering bot (e.g. Amazon Echo). This thesis implements a template-based intent recognition system, which heavily relies on the performance of text embedding algorithms. The thesis therefore provides a comprehensive overview of the state-of-the-art word and sentence embedding algorithms. Further, it performs a unique comparison of the algorithms in terms of their training properties, performance, and hardware requirements. This work further implements two model compression techniques (vocabulary pruning and vector quantization) to make the models more suitable for mobile applications. The StarSpace embedding algorithm performed the best in the experiments. Further, the compression methods proved to be very powerful, being able to reduce the size of the models 100-1000 times without any notable loss of performance. Thus, a compressed StarSpace model was used to create the resulting intent recognition module that was able to outperform the currently used system in the Alquist social bot (second place in the 2017 Alexa prize contest) while being less complex
Lattice thermal conductivity of disordered NiPd and NiPt alloys
Numerical calculations of lattice thermal conductivity are reported for the
binary alloys NiPd and NiPt. The present work is a continuation of an earlier
paper by us [PRB, 72, 214207 (2005)]which had developed a theoretical framework
for the calculation of configuration-averaged lattice thermal conductivity and
thermal diffusivity in disordered alloys. The formulation was based on the
augmented space theorem combined with a scattering diagram technique. In this
paper we shall show dependence of the lattice thermal conductivity on a series
of variables like phonon frequency, temperature and alloy composition. The
temperature dependence of and its realtion to the measured thermal
conductivity is discussed. The concentration dependence of appears to
justify the notion of a minimum thermal conductivity as discussed by Kittel,
Slack and others. We also study the frequency and composition dependence of the
thermal diffusivity averaged over modes. A numerical estimate of this quantity
gives an idea about the location of mobility edge and the fraction of states in
the frequency spectrum which is delocalized.Comment: 23 pages, 18 figure
Exact Solution of Photon Equation in Stationary G\"{o}del-type and G\"{o}del Space-Times
In this work the photon equation (massless Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau equation) is
written expilicitly for general type of stationary G\"{o}del space-times and is
solved exactly for G\"{o}del-type and G\"{o}del space-times. Harmonic
oscillator behaviour of the solutions is discussed and energy spectrum of
photon is obtained.Comment: 9 pages,RevTeX, no figure, revised for publicatio
Electronic structure, mechanical and thermodynamic properties of ThN from first-principles calculations
Lattice parameter, electronic structure, mechanical and thermodynamic
properties of ThN are systematically studied using the projector-augmented-wave
method and the generalized gradient approximation based on the density
functional theory. The calculated electronic structure indicates the important
contributions of Th 6\emph{d}and 5\emph{f} states to the Fermi-level electron
occupation. Through Bader analysis it is found that the effective valencies in
ThN can be represented as Th N. Elastic constant
calculations shows that ThN is mechanically stable and elastically anisotropic.
Furthermore, the melting curve of ThN is presented up to 120 GPa. Based on the
phonon dispersion data, our calculated specific heat capacities including both
lattice and conduction-electron contributions agree well with experimental
results in a wide range of temperature.Comment: 16 pages, 8 figure
New transcriptional-based insights into the pathogenesis of desmoplastic small round cell tumors (DSRCTs).
To gain new insights into desmoplastic small round cell tumors (DSRCTs) by means of gene expression profiling (GEP). Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded surgical specimens obtained from seven pretreated DSRCT patients were interrogated using GEP complemented by immunohistochemistry, a cancer stem cell array, and miRNA in situ hybridisation, including the combined chimera modules miRNA-200/ZEB1 and miRNA-34/SLUG. The chimera modules divided the cases into three classes that respectively recapitulated the traits of mesenchymal epithelial reverse transition (MErT), epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT), and hybrid/partial EMT. This indicates a close correlation between the reprogramming governed by EMT regulators and DSRCT biology, which was further confirmed by miRNA-21 and is consistent with the broad morphological spectrum of DSRCTs. Starting from the miRNA-200/ZEB1 axis, we also found that DSRCTs carry a signature of immunological ignorance that is not responsive to PD--L1 blockade. Evidence that the up-regulation of miRNA-200 and E-cadherin, and quite a high level of miRNA-21 expression segregate with the MErT supports the idea that, in addition to the hybrid/partial state, MErT is also enriched in stemness: the androgen-positive cases, whose stemness traits were confirmed by stem cell arrays, all fell into these two classes. Our findings also confirmed that tumoral cell PDGFRA expression correlates with desmoplasia, and demonstrated the co-expression of PDGFRA and ISLR/Meflin, another marker of pluripotency. Despite the limited number of cases, these findings provide unexpectedly relevant information concerning the pathogenesis of DSRCTs, and prove the validity of miRNA-based chimera circuit modelling in the clinico-pathological setting
Differential expression of synaptophysin and synaptoporin during pre- and postnatal development of the hippocampal network
The closely related synaptic vesicle membrane proteins synaptophysin and synaptoporin are abundant in the hippocampal formation of the adult rat. But the prenatal hippocampal formation contains only synaptophysin, which is first detected at embryonic day 17 (E17) in perikarya and axons of the pyramidal neurons. At E21 synaptophysin immunoreactivity extends into the apical dendrites of these cells and in newly formed terminals contacting these dendrites. The transient presence of synaptophysin in axons and dendrites suggests a functional involvement of synaptophysin in fibre outgrowth of developing pyramidal neurons. Synaptoporin expression parallels the formation of dentate granule cell synaptic contacts with pyramidal neurons: the amount of hippocampal synaptoporin, determined in immunoblots and by synaptoporin immunostaining of developing mossy fibre terminals, increases during the first postnatal week. Moreover, in the adult, synaptoporin is found exclusively in the mossy fibre terminals present in the hilar region of the dentate gyrus and the regio inferior of the cornu ammonis. In contrast, synaptophysin is present in all synaptic fields of the hippocampal formation, including the mossy fibre terminals, where it colocalizes with synaptoporin in the same boutons. Our data indicate that granule neuron terminals differ from all other terminals of the hippocampal formation by the presence of both synaptoporin and synaptophysin. This difference, observed in the earliest synaptic contacts in the postnatal hippocampus and persisting into adult life, suggests distinct functions of synaptoporin in these nerve terminals
