Lectura hermenéutica del “Iubilus” atribuido a San Bernardo

Remarkable readings of the “Iubilus” of Saint Bernard have been proposed in the past, both from a doctrinal (Gilson) and literary (Dom Wilmart) point of view. We offer here an hermeneutic approach based on a rather “hybrid” version (Wilmart dixit) but of large range in the history of the Catholic liturgy. The result seems conclusive: the richness of the text decisively explodes showing the unity of theology, poetry and prayer. In addition, it allows drawing hypothetic but suggestive conclusions about the possibility of resuming the problem of the historical sources of the Hymn.En el pasado se han propuesto lecturas notables del “Iubilus” de San Bernardo, tanto desde un punto de vista doctrinal (Gilson) como literario (Dom Wilmart). Ofrecemos aquí un tipo de lectura hermenéutica basada en una versión bastante “híbrida” (Wilmart dixit) pero de largo alcance en la historia de la liturgia católica. El resultado parece concluyente: la riqueza del texto explota decisivamente mostrando la unidad de teología, poesía y oración. Además, permite extraer conclusiones hipotéticas pero sugerentes sobre la posibilidad de reanudar nuevamente el problema de las fuentes históricas del Himno. &nbsp

Justice and Truth in Saint Anselm: The Chapter 12 of "De veritate"

El presente artículo trata de demostrar que un análisis detallado del capítulo 12 del De Veritate, que lo sitúa en su contexto cercano y lejano, no revela el menor rastro de formalismo ético. A través de un movimiento dialéctico, Anselmo logra establecer que la rectitudo no puede ser reducida a debitum, sino que ese debitum, aunque supuesto y asumido, es superado por el amor al bien por sí mismo (propter se). En esto consiste la justicia de Anselmo. Esta conclusión central es una condición indispensable para comprender las otras dos obras que completan el magnífico "tríptico" moral del Doctor: De libertate arbitrii y De casu diaboli.The article tries to show that a detailed analysis of chapter 12 of De Veritate, which places it in its near and distant context, does not reveal the slightest trace of ethical formalism. Through a dialectic movement, Anselm succeeds in establishing that the rectitudo cannot be reduced to debitum, but that this debitum, although supposed and assumed, is overcome by the love of good for its own sake (propter se). This is what Anselm's Justice consists of. This nuclear conclusion is an indispensable condition for understanding the other two works that complete the magnificent moral "triptych" of the Doctor: De libertate arbitrii and De casu diaboli

Approaches to the Doctrine of the Original Sin in Anselm of Canterbury (II): Synchronic Reading of De conceptu virginali

Esta segunda parte del artículo completa la interpretación general del DCV sometiendo el texto a una lectura sincrónica. Resultado: de una estructura tripartita, fruto de la lectura diacrónica (o sucesiva) centrada en el problema de la gravedad del pecado original, pasamos aquí a una estructura bipartita puesta de relieve por la mirada sincrónica (o simultánea), conducida desde quien es la razón de ser de todos los aspectos previstos en el texto: el hombre-Dios o el segundo Adán del que habla el Cur Deus homo. Esta nueva lectura, más fundamental que la anterior, muestra claramente por qué Anselmo ha dado su título -doble y único- a la presente obra: "De conceptu virginali et de originali peccato". [Para ver la primera parte: vol. 4/5 (1983-1984)]This second part of the article completes the general interpretation of the DCV by subjecting the text to a synchronic reading. Result: from a tripartite structure, conceived by a diachronic (or successive) reading centered on the problem of the gravity of original sin, we pass here to a bipartite structure highlighted by the synchronic (or simultaneous) reading, led from the one who is the reason for the existence of all the aspects foreseen in the text: the man-God or the second Adam of whom the Cur Deus homo speaks. This new reading, more fundamental than the previous one, clearly shows why Anselmo has given his title –double and unique– to the present work: “De conceptu virginali et de originali peccato”.
