    Stand-off 3D face imaging and vibrometry for biometric identification using digital holography

    Lockheed Martin Coherent Technologies (LMCT) has demonstrated 3D face imaging at ~ 1-2 mm lateral resolution and range precision at stand-off distances up to 100 m using digital holography. LMCT has also demonstrated the digital holography technique in a multi-pixel vibrometry mode in the laboratory. In this paper, we report on 3D face imaging using multiple-source (MS) and multiple-wavelength (MW) digital holography breadboards. We will briefly discuss the theory of 3D imaging using MS and MW digital holography with references to the literature. We will also briefly discuss the theory of vibrometry using a digital holographic setup. We then describe our implementation of these techniques in breadboard setups operating at 1550 nm wavelength (for MS digital holography) and at wavelengths near 1617 nm (for MW digital holography). We also present experimental results for 3D imaging and for vibrometry with these digital holographic setups

Among other potential industrial, commercial, and governmental users, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Defense (DoD) desire the ability to capture biometric data from minimally cooperative subjects with a minimally invasive system at stand-off distances. The initial applications are fixed installations for relatively large volume access points such as security check points and transportation gateways for which minimal cooperation, stand-off operation, and real-time operation are desired so that the biometric identification process will have little impact on traffic flow.     Activities of daily living independence in Iranian blind war survivors: a cross sectional study, 2008

    Aim: Assessment of activities of daily living (ADL) can be helpful for designing individualized rehabilitation programs for disabled individuals. Measuring and comparing the basic ADL (BADL) and instrumental ADL (IADL) independence between middle aged and senior Iranian blind war survivors (IBWS) was the aim of this study. Methods: This cross-sectional study assessed BADL and IADL of 312 blind war survivors, using the Barthel Index and the Lawton-Bordy scale. Data collection was carried out in a recreational event for the blind war survivors in Mashhad, Iran, 2008. Results: The majority of the participants were male (99%), and more than 80% had multiple injuries. None of them were independent in all BADL and IADL. Older groups were more dependent in IADL such as telephone use, drug management, financial management, and BADL such as walking on uneven surfaces, bed/chair transfer and using stairs.
