"Business Improvement Districts": Una nueva forma de colaboración público-privada para la revitalización socioeconómica de áreas urbanas

This paper presents Business Improvement Districts (BIDs), which after a US wide expansion have started to appear in Europe. Pursuant to this expansion, right now appears to be the perfect time to become familiar with BID and assess its convenience in Spanish cities.A BID is a public-private partnership scheme, which aims at socioeconomically revitalizing specific urban areas. The biggest attribute for BID is having the legal ability to levy the businesses located in its area. These resources are used to provide the area with extra services, which could improve its competitiveness.The goals of this article are to present the BID description; to let all interested sectors like consump-tion and retail, public-space management, and cities’ governance know the scheme; and to suggest some important factors that the future BID implantation decision should take into consideration.In order to present these goals, this topic has been made a BID-themed literature review; furthermore, as a part of the researching, the author has succeeded in the Business District Management course regarding BID’s management, offered by Rutgers University of Newark (New Jersey, USA), and completed vigorous, on-line research concerning the recent European experiences.By examining BIDs’ proliferation, the article concludes that the project as a whole has been a success; however, BIDs’ application is a polemic decision and requires balancing the possible appearance of uncertain complications before taking this step.En este trabajo se presentan los Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) que, después de su gran expansión por toda Norteamérica, han comenzado a implantarse en Europa. Por ello, parece el momento adecuado para comenzar a conocerlos y evaluar la conveniencia de su aplicación en España. Un BID es una forma de colaboración público-privada cuyo objetivo es la revitalización socioeconómica de una determinada área urbana. La principal característica de estas organizaciones es que tienen la capacidad de imponer una cuota monetaria obligatoria a todos los establecimientos empresariales existentes en el área en la que operan. Las cantidades recaudadas se destinan a prestar servicios que mejoren la zona.El objetivo de este artículo es dar a conocer los BIDs, insertándolos en el contexto de la sociedad de consumo, de tal forma que sirva como un primer acercamiento para todos aquellos interesados en ámbitos tan diversos como el comercio y el consumo, la gestión del espacio público y la gobernanza de las ciudades. Para ello, se ha efectuado una revisión bibliográfica de la literatura existente al respecto, además del curso Business District Management, sobre la gestión de estas organizaciones impartido por la Rutgers University of Newark (New Jersey, EEUU); así como una investigación on-line sobre las más recientes experiencias europeas.La principal conclusión obtenida es que, pese a tratarse de un modelo exitoso en términos de su proliferación, su aplicación se presenta polémica, y en cualquier caso se deberán tener en cuenta las posibles complicaciones antes de tomar la decisión de desarrollarlo en España

ITALIAN CRIME FICTION AND THE GLOBAL PENAL STATE

This dissertation analyzes contemporary Italian crime fiction’s success, relating it to the penal system’s growing centrality in the Italian (and global) political, social, and cultural scene. Although crime literature’s great popularity is commonly accepted as a fact, literary criticism has rarely examined the reasons for this long-standing success. Combining an analysis of the Italian publishing market and a study of some socio-cultural dynamics that have affected the world of politics, the judiciary, and the media in the last thirty-forty years of Italian history, this dissertation tries to explain the fortune of crime fiction abandoning purely stylistic, psychologizing and sociologizing approaches. In this sense, crime fiction is seen as a point of contact between instances and powers capable of shedding light on some critical dynamics of contemporary Italian society, such as social fears, the institutional clash between state powers, the media’s role in modern trials. It emerges that crime fiction, being an enormously varied and profoundly flexible genre, is directly related to all these aspects. Although this link with reality influences a large part of contemporary crime fiction production, it is particularly evident in the work of many real-life magistrates, police officers, and investigative journalists who have turned into successful crime fiction writers. The composite universe of crime fiction seems to be unified by a shared intent: the search for truth, be it historical, political, or judicial. After all, the root of this type of literature’s success could lie precisely in its ability to respond to this too often ignored primary need.Doctor of Philosoph

Diseño de una interfaz gráfica de usuario para placa Arduino

El mundo de los microcontroladores puede ser algo complejo a primera vista por la variedad de fabricantes, tipos de procesadores de 8, 16 o 32 bits, lenguaje de programación usado C o C++… No obstante, hay empresas que han comenzado a considerar estas circunstancias y han desarrollado productos como Lego Mindstorm, Arduino y Raspberry Pi. Estos productos, que a simple vista no parecen poder clasificarse de forma convencional en estos aspectos, son una forma excelente de iniciar a personas sin conocimiento alguno en programación y electrónica. Este Trabajo de Fin de Grado tratará sobre la creación de una interfaz gráfica de usuario para Arduino. El objetivo que se persigue no es controlar la lógica que regirá la placa desde el ordenador con el que se comunique sino facilitar la labor de aquellos usuarios que realicen sus proyectos con las placas de manera que sean capaces de visualizar aquellos datos que estimen convenientes de la forma más sencilla posible. Para ello, la interfaz permitirá la representación de múltiples gráficas, con ajuste automático de escalas, de aquellos datos procedentes de la placa Arduino que el usuario seleccione, así como los valores de estos datos y los de las variables seleccionadas lo que facilitará una comprensión del funcionamiento de una manera más intuitiva y rápida. Por otro lado, dado que existe una gran cantidad de distintos modelos y con diferentes características, se hace necesario que el diseño del software sea sólido y expandible. Debido a esta circunstancia, se ha decidido usar Python para la creación de la GUI pues se trata de un lenguaje de alto nivel que a su vez resulta muy flexible. En cambio, se usará C++ para las librerías de las placas Arduino, justificándose este uso por razones más que evidentes de rendimiento.Microcontroller fields can be something at a first approach due to the variety of manufacturers, processor type of 8, 16 or 32 bits, the programming language being either C or C++. Nonetheless, there are several businesses who have started to consider this situation developing several products such as Lego Mindstorm, Arduino and Raspberry Pi. These products cannot be classified with by using traditional aspect. What make them special is that they are a great way to introduce people without any prior knowledge of programming and electronics. This project will be focused on the development of a graphical user interface for Arduino boards. The aim isn't controlling the logic on the side of the computer which the board will be exchanging messages with, rather helping the work of those users who develop their projects by allowing to check the needed data in a graphical way. In order to achieve this goal, the interface will allow the representation of multiple graphs and two tables filled with data originated from the Arduino board. Due to the amount of different board models with their own features, it's needed that the software is developed over a solid base. Due to this, it's has been decided to use Python to create the graphical user interface. During the last decades, prose anthologies acquired great importance within the Italian publishing system. Starting from the specific case of the small and independent publishing house Minimum Fax, this essay analyzes prose anthologies as tools for the construction and the consolidation of relations and practices within the Italian literary field. A relational analysis of the productive practices that lay beyond the publishing of such anthologies allows to give reason of the structure that substantiates the production of these peculiar products, avoiding traditional approaches that tend to see anthologies as mere instruments for the creation of the literary canon.Le antologie di prosa hanno acquisito nel corso degli ultimi, un peso specifico rilevante all’interno della produzione editoriale italiana. Questo contributo prende in considerazione le antologie di prosa non tanto o non solamente come strumenti di critica o di poetica quanto piuttosto come luoghi di costruzione e consolidamento di pratiche e relazioni. IR Spectrum of the O-H......O Hydrogen Bond of Phthalic Acid Monomethylester in Gas Phase and in CCl4_4 Solution

The absorption spectrum of the title compound in the spectral range of the Hydrogen-bonded OH-stretching vibration has been investigated using a five-dimensional gas phase model as well as a QM/MM classical molecular dynamics simulation in solution. The gas phase model predicts a Fermi-resonance between the OH-stretching fundamental and the first OH-bending overtone transition with considerable oscillator strength redistribution. The anharmonic coupling to a low-frequency vibration of the Hydrogen bond leading to a vibrational progression is studied within a diabatic potential energy curve model. The condensed phase simulation of the dipole-dipole correlation function results in a broad band in the 3000 \cm region in good agreement with experimental data. Further, weaker absorption features around 2600 \cm have been identified as being due to motion of the Hydrogen within the Hydrogen bond.Comment: Contribution to Horizons in Hydrogen Bond Research Conference, Paris 200

Radioterapia jest jedną z radykalnych metod terapeutycznych w leczeniu raka endometrium. Jako samodzielna, jest metodą z wyboru w leczeniu kobiet zdyskwalifikowanych od operacji z powodu zaawansowania choroby lub schorzeń współistniejących. Polega ona na połączeniu napromieniania z pól zewnętrznych z brachyterapią dojamową. Od samego początku techniki stosowanej brachyterapii zmieniały się w poszukiwaniu metody optymalnej.Pragniemy przedstawić porównanie trzech metod leczenia promieniami nieoperacyjnego raka endometrium stosowanych w naszym ośrodku.Materiał i metodaCharakterystyka grup porównawczych.Metoda leczenia: technika manchesterska, liczba chorych – 156, w tym 41 w I, 16 w II i 99 w III stopniu zaawansowania wg FIGO; metoda Heymana, liczba chorych – 116, w tym 43 w I, 6 w II, 67 w III stopniu zaawansowania wg FIGO; after-loading 2-sondy, liczba chorych 28, w tym w 20 w III stopniu zaawansowania wg FIGO.Techniki leczeniaTechnika manchesterska, polegająca na aplikacji do jamy macicy sondy Unijnej oraz 2 aplikatorów w sklepienia pochwy. Źródło promieniowania – Rad 226. Czas leczenia około 96–120 godzin w dwóch seriachleczenia.Metoda Heymana, jama macicy wypełniona w całej swej objętości tubkami z Radem 226, uzupełniona aplikacją Radu w sklepienia pochwy. Czas leczenia około 96–120 godzin w dwóch seriach leczenia.Metoda after-loading, 2 lekko zakrzywione sondy umieszczane w jamie macicy. Źródło promieniowania Cez 137, dawka 45–55 Gy/A, czas leczenia 30–50 godzin w dwóch seriach leczenia.Wszystkie chore poddane były napromienianiu z pól zewnętrznych, przy użyciu 9 MeV fotonów. Dawka 40–44 Gy na okolicę miednicy mniejszej podawana była w konwencjonalnej frakcjonacji 2 Gy dziennieprzez 5 dni w tygodniu.WynikiPrzeżycia 5-letnie kobiet leczonych sondą linijną. 5 lat przeżyło 35 ze 156 tj. 22,7% w stopniu zaawansowania I-16 z 41 tj. 39%, II-5z16tj. 31%, III-14 z 99 tj. 14,1%.Spośród kobiet leczonych metodą Heymana 5 lat przeżyło 67 ze116 tj. 57,7% w stopniu zaawansowania I-36 z 43 tj.83,7%, II-2 z 6 tj. 33,3%, III-29 z 67 tj. 29%.Dla kobiet leczonych metodą after-loading określono przeżycia 2-letnie ze względu na stosunkowo krótki okres stosowaniatej metody (od1994 roku). Przedstawiana leczona była w latach 1994–1996. Czas obserwacji min. 24 miesiące.2 lata przeżyły 23 z 28 tj. 82,1% chorych, w stopniu zaawansowania I tj. 100%, II tj. 100%, III 15 z 20 tj. 75% (trzy chore żyją z objawami choroby).Odczyny powikłania wczesna i późne:Sonda linijna: odbytnica-55, pęcherz moczowy-7 razem 39,7%.Metoda Heymana: odbytnica-60, pęcherz moczowy-6 razem 56,9%.After-loading: odbytnica-6, pęcherz moczowy-5 razem 39,2%.Wnioski1.Metoda brachyterapii z użyciem sondy Unijnej, aplikowanej do macicy, okazała się techniką o najmniejszej skuteczności terapeutycznej najniższy wskaźnik przeżyć 5-letnich.2.Najwięcej powikłań po leczeniu zaobserwowano przy stosowaniu techniki leczenia wg Heymana.3.Obecnie stosowana technika after-loading jest metodą dającą porównywalny odsetek wyleczeń do metody Heymana, bez zwiększania ryzyka powikłań popromiennych. Jest jednocześnie metodą o znacznie krótszym czasie leczenia oraz zmniejszający w sposób istotny narażenie personelu na promieniowanie

Propuesta de intervención psicopedagógica en un aula hospitalaria dirigida a un sujeto con mutismo selectivo

A lo largo del presente Trabajo de Fin de Máster se muestra una propuesta de intervención psicopedagógica que da respuesta a las necesidades socioeducativas de un sujeto de siete años que, debido a un ingreso hospitalario, ha desarrollado mutismo selectivo y deberá permanecer durante 15 días en un aula hospitalaria. Siguiendo con toda la información investigada, se puede concluir que el papel de su entorno más próximo es vital a la hora de trabajar con el menor. Es por ello, por lo que el siguiente trabajo tiene como principal objetivo realizar un conjunto de actividades ajustadas a las necesidades del menor y de su entorno que le permitan desenvolverse de manera autónoma y lo más satisfactoria posible.Throughout this Master's Thesis, a psychopedagogical intervention proposal is shown that responds to the socio-educational needs of a seven-year-old subject who, due to hospital admission, has developed selective mutism and must remain for 15 days in a hospital classroom. Continuing with all the information investigated, it can be concluded that the role of their closest environment is vital when working with the minor.
