Crossing the borderline takes you to heaven: working classes consumption tourism and frontier conurbations in South America

The borderline between Brazil and Uruguay (South America) is punctuated by “twin cities” settlements established for surveillance since late 19th century. Insulated from the denser urban net spreading from Porto Alegre / BRAZIL and from Montevideo / URUGUAY, they became important commercial nodes. Uruguay government created tax free zones in some of these towns from 1985 on, to strengthen the region economy. From 2005 on, Brazilian ever increasing economical stability and favorable exchange rates turned these borderline sleepy towns into overcrowded weekend bazaars. The discussion focuses on the “borderline conurbations” urban structures in consolidating trends and patterns of regional working classes consumption tourism and its impacts on built heritage conservation, land use patterns and centralities. Spatial transformations promoted by the allocation of touristic and shopping infrastructure are analyzed using Space Syntax methodology to describe the importance of spatial structure for tourist’s movement about the conurbations.Peer Reviewe

Endothelial cell-cardiomyocyte crosstalk in heart development and disease

The crosstalk between endothelial cells and cardiomyocytes has emerged as a requisite for normal cardiac development, but also a key pathogenic player during the onset and progression of cardiac disease. Endothelial cells and cardiomyocytes are in close proximity and communicate through the secretion of paracrine signals, as well as through direct cell-to-cell contact. Here, we provide an overview of the endothelial cell-cardiomyocyte interactions controlling heart development and the main processes affecting the heart in normal and pathological conditions, including ischaemia, remodelling and metabolic dysfunction. We also discuss the possible role of these interactions in cardiac regeneration and encourage the further improvement of in vitro models able to reproduce the complex environment of the cardiac tissue, in order to better define the mechanisms by which endothelial cells and cardiomyocytes interact with a final aim of developing novel therapeutic opportunities

Linguagens, interações e brincadeiras – preposições para o currículo na Educação Infantil

Procuro apresentar neste texto o preâmbulo daquilo que tem sido chamado de “Linguagens infantis”: um campo que conflitua o tempo e espaço dado às linguagens corporais, plásticas, teatrais, musicais, poéticas, etc., e o tempo e espaço dado à linguagem escrita que de certo modo tem sido predominante na educação infantil, especialmente nas pré-escolas. O texto foi elaborado a partir de uma revisão teórica do tema e, ao mesmo tempo, articulando com concepções e abordagens que possam fundamentar práticas que desmarginalizam as linguagens infantis na perspectiva de que: 1. A educação infantil não é um direito do aluno, é um direito da criança; 2. É um espaço tempo não escolar e formal privilegiado de iniciação e de coletivo infantil; 3. O professor da educação infantil tem em suas mãos uma possibilidade singular de construir o currículo junto com as crianças. Apresento um campo em que as múltiplas linguagens das crianças são retiradas das margens, analisando alguns documentos governamentais e algumas pesquisas que vem construindo caminhos para se pensar o currículo da educação infantil a partir da valorização e da exploração do espaço tempo da interação e das brincadeiras das crianças. O propósito deste texto é ampliar o debate e a fundamentação para desmarginalizar a fala daquelas que ainda não falam, o movimento daqueles que ainda não andam, fazer emergir os sorrisos, os choros, os sussurros, os gritos e os engatinhados. Controllo di uno Sciame di Robot utilizzando il Framework delle Funzioni Descrittive

Lo studio dei sistemi multi-agente ha da sempre attirato l'interesse della comunità scientica per le enormi potenzialità applicative e per la quantità di discipline coinvolte. L'unirsi in gruppi infatti, anche per molte forme viventi, è da sempre stato uno strumento fondamentale per la soluzione di tantissimi problemi quotidiani ed è per questo motivo che anche nella robotica si è cercato di riproporre gli stessi espedienti e stratagemmi usati in natura. Da un punto di vista pratico è infatti possibile intuire come le Sensor-Network, i sistemi Multi-Agente e gli sciami di veicoli possano anche venir impiegati per risolvere compiti non realizzabili con un singolo elemento. Durante questi ultimi anni sono quindi state proposte una moltitudine di soluzioni specifiche che hanno cercato di far fronte a tutta quella serie di problemi che nascono dall'utilizzo contemporaneo di più robot. Alcuni esempi tipici di applicazione sono lo studio del moto coordinato, la comunicazione, l'apprendimento e l'assegnamento e la suddivisione dei compiti da svolgere. Pur considerando l'ampia letteratura al riguardo, lo studio dei sistemi multi-agente non ha ancora visto nascere una metodologia generale da poter essere utilizzata per ogni possibile problematica e per ciascuna tipologia di aggregazione di robot. E' infatti importante ricordare che nello studio degli swarm occorre considerare non solo squadre di veicoli/velivoli/robot identici ma anche possibili combinazioni fra agenti con caratteristiche fisiche, dinamiche, qualitative ed operative differenti. In quest'ottica pertanto, nella presente tesi, viene proposto un nuovo framework con cui è possibile studiare, sotto un unico formalismo matematico, un gran numero di problematiche legate al controllo e alla gestione degli Heterogeneous Swarm (sciami eterogenei), che vengono così realizzati da squadre miste di robot, veicoli, sensori o velivoli di qualunque tipo. Da questo punto di vista i termini Sensor-Network, Swarm e Multi-Robot diventano sinonimi e risulta così più appropriato parlare di agenti quando occorre riferirsi al singolo elemento. Ricordando inoltre che un sistema di questo tipo rientra nel campo dei sistemi distribuiti, nella tesi sarà anche proposta una soluzione di tipo decentralizzato per implementare gli algoritmi di controllo contenuti nel framework. A questo scopo diventerà quindi fondamentale lo scambio delle informazioni all'interno della rete di comunicazione (Network), e saranno utilizzati algoritmi di Agreement o Consensus

A pedagogização do sexo da criança: do corpo ao dispositivo da infância

What is pedagogization? What is childhood? And, what is the device? This article is based on a doctorate research which links these three concepts from a Foucault analysis. The starting point is the notion that the 18th century invests specifically in the body of the child, producing a series of practices which register into a pedagogization process of their sex. This process first occurs through silencing and denial of the existence of a child´s sexuality, but at the following moment, it will trigger off an explosion of practices which will exalt, explain, incite, “liberate”, treat, cure, etc, all the manifestations around their body. There is a hypothesis which crosses this debate and preconizes it is from the moment the child becomes one of the strategic groups of the sexuality device. According to Foucault, a heterogeneous set of regimes of truth and practices is also produce don’t of his child, in such way that, a specific manner of childhood living is shown to them. This way, childhood constitutes itself, as well as sexuality, as a historical power device. By corresponding to the characteristics of the device, the article shows the practices which framed the modern childhood, such as Pedagogical Practices, Divider and gender an didentity Practices and Medical Practices. Through such practices, it is possible to observe the visibility and enunciation lines, as well as the strength and subjectivation ones, converging to frame the body of the child and to configure them as a way of living, behaving, playing, and expressing themselves. A movement which is precise and micropolitical: from the practices of discipline from the body to the childhood device. O que é a pedagogização? O que é a infância? E o que é o dispositivo? Este artigo se deriva de uma pesquisa de doutorado que entrelaça estes três conceitos a partir de uma analítica foucaultiana. O ponto de partida é a noção de que o século XVIII investe de maneira específica no corpo da criança, produzindo uma série de práticas que se inscrevem em um processo de pedagogização de seu sexo. Esta pedagogização, por sua vez, ocorre primeiramente por meio de um silenciamento e de uma negação da existência da sexualidade da criança, mas que em momento seguinte desencadeia uma explosão de práticas que irão, por outro lado, exaltar, explicar, incitar, “liberar”, tratar, curar etc., todas as suas manifestações em torno de seu corpo. Há uma hipótese que atravessa esse debate que entende que é a partir do momento em que a criança se torna um dos grupos estratégicos do dispositivo da sexualidade, tal como pressupõe Foucault, um conjunto heterogêneo de regimes de verdades e práticas é também produzido sobre esta criança, de maneira tal, que se desenha para ela um modo específico de viver a infância. Dessa maneira, a infância vai se constituindo, tal como a sexualidade, como um dispositivo histórico do poder. De forma correspondente às características do dispositivo, o artigo desenha as práticas que emolduraram a infância moderna, tais como: as Práticas pedagógicas, as Práticas divisórias e identitárias de gênero e de sexualidade e as Práticas médicas. Observa-se, nessas práticas, as linhas de visibilidade e de enunciação, as de força e as de subjetivação, todas convergindo de maneira a esquadrinhar o corpo da criança e a configurar para ela um modo de viver, de se portar, de se vestir, de habitar, de brincar, de se expressar. Evaluation of strontium-containing hydroxyapatite as bone substitute in sheep tibiae.

With the advancement of research in biomaterials, it has been suggested that the best osteoconductivity of hydroxyapatite would be achieved if its crystal were closer to the structure, size and morphology of biological apatite, that is why nano-hydroxyapatite (nano-HA) is of great importance. current interest. Strontium ions are known to reduce bone resorption, induce osteoblastic activity and stimulate bone formation. The aim of this study was to evaluate biocompatibility and osteoconduction in surgical defects filled with nano-hydroxyapatite microspheres containing 1% strontium (nano-SrHA), stoichiometric nano-HA microspheres (nano-HA) compared to the clot (control) . Four Santa Inês sheep, weighing an average of 32 kg, were anesthetized and submitted to three 2 mm diameter perforations in the medial face of the tibia. The surgical defects were filled with blood clot, microspheres of Sr-HA 1% and microspheres of HA. After 30 days the samples were drawn (6 mm), decalcified, processed for inclusion in paraffin and stained with hematoxylin and eosin (HE) for histological evaluation with light microscopy. All groups revealed bone neoformation from the periphery to the center of the defect, with the nano-SrHA group being less intense among those studied. Presence of a discrete mononuclear inflammatory infiltrate in all experimental groups. Giant foreign body cells were only observed in the HA group. Areas of bone neoformation were observed in close contact with both biomaterials. A meta 19 nos Planos Municipais De Educação Do Estado De Mato Grosso Do Sul / Goal 19 in the Municipal Education Plans of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul

O artigo tem como objetivo analisar a concepção de democracia apresentada nos Planos Municipais de Educação (PME 2015-2025) dos municípios do estado de Mato Grosso do Sul que instituíram seus sistemas de ensino de acordo com a Meta 19 do Plano Nacional de Educação. Na análise foram utilizados os Planos Municipais de Educação dos 39 municípios que criaram seus sistemas de ensino. Os documentos que nortearam a pesquisa foram: a Constituição Federal de 1988, a Lei de Diretrizes e Bases da Educação Nacional, o Plano Nacional de Educação e os Planos Municipais de Educação desses municípios. Os resultados obtidos mostram que a gestão democrática se apresenta nos PME’s como caminho na busca pela democratização do ensino, conferindo singularidade para o atendimento das necessidades da população local e meios para a efetivação da democracia

Steroid estrogens in ocean sediments

This paper gives results from a study measuring the abundance of steroid hormones in ocean sediments in the proximity of a deep ocean sewage outfall. The outfall is discharge point for an enhanced primary sewage treatment plant and sediment samples were taken adjacent and 7 km from the outfall. All samples contained steroid estrogens at nanogram per gram levels with higher concentrations at the 7 km sampling site. The concentration of estrone ranged from (0.16–1.17 ng/g), 17β-estradiol (0.22–2.48 ng/g) and the synthetic 17α-ethinylestradiol (<0.05–0.5 ng/g). The values detected correspond with estimates based on the proportion of estrogens sorbed to particles in the effluent and the expected proportion of particles originating from sewage in the ocean sediments. The results suggest that estrogens associated with the particulate fraction aggregate on contact with high ionic strength seawater and settle to the seafloor after discharge through deep ocean outfalls

Este ensaio se inscreve num viés analítico que entende a cidade pelos seus movimentos corpóreos, que a adentram e a transformam desde seu viver e de suas vivências até a sua escritura. São táticas mais do que estratégias que entendemos ser os operadores da experiência da cidade. O objetivo posto neste texto é produzir uma espécie de cartografia histórica que recupera alguns dos principais pensadores ao longo do século XX que compreendiam a cidade a partir de experiências corporais. Iniciamos com a figura do flâneur de Charles Baudelaire que inspira Walter Benjamin nas descrições de Paris e que aqui se anuncia como “corpos agregados”; passamos aos “corpos lentos”, nomenclatura definida para expressar a apreensão do espaço operada pela teoria em Michel de Certeau; entramos com os “corpos suspensos” denotados na teoria dos não-lugares de Marc Augé; e por fim, adentramos pela filosofia da diferença, para introduzirmos os “corpos rizomáticos” deleuzianos.This essay is part of an analytical bias that understands the city through its corporeal movements that form part and transform it from its experiences to its writing. These are tactics more than strategies that we understand that are the operators in experiencing the city. Our goal in this paper is to produce a certain historical cartography through recovering some of the the main 20th century philosophical insights of thinkers who understood the city from corporeal experiences. Starting from the “aggregate bodies” applied from Charles Baudelaire´s flanêur figure, which inspired Walter Benjamin descriptions of Paris to move forward towards the “slow bodies” in order to synthetize Michel de Certeau’s apprehension of space theory; then introduce the “suspended bodies” depicted from Marc Augé’s theory of non-places to finally reach the “rhizomatic bodies” depicted from Deleuze´s philosophy of difference
