África y el Medio Oriente: retos políticos internacionales en el siglo xxi: Africa and the Middle East: international political challenges in the 21st century

Parametric Approaches for Spare Parts Demand

    Get PDF
Forecasting of the spare parts needs is an important operational question. The problem in the needs forecast is that the demand is intermittent. In stock management, there are several forecasting tools based on demand history such as: linear regression, basic and modified Croston methods, simple and weighted moving average, exponential smoothing, and finally the bootstrap method. In this paper, we will treat the last method through three sections: literature review, procedure of the method and finally an application of the method which will be compared to simple exponential smoothing and hybrid method

Role and Expectations of the Private Sector in the Implementation of the Nagoya Protocol in Morocco

    Get PDF
This study analyzes the results of a survey of companies in the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and cosmetic sectors that are users of genetic resources from Morocco. The objective of the survey is to determine the experience of these local and international companies regarding access, monitoring and use of Morocco's genetic resources under the Nagoya Protocol's access and benefit-sharing (ABS) system, as applied in Morocco. The survey reveals limitations in information sharing and in the efficiency of responses and processing of access requests by the relevant administrations and authorities, as well as the unavailability of practical information for potential users on applicable procedures or temporary measures in force in Morocco. In general, the results point to a poor understanding of the expectations of private operators in the relevant sectors regarding ABS, and a lack of communication and coordination between users of genetic resources and the relevant authorities in Morocco. It is therefore recommended to increase transparency and access to information on access procedures, while developing the capacity of the competent authorities to better understand the sectors using genetic resources, in order to develop measures that are adapted to the operators and that do not hinder the R&D processes. This would facilitate the sustainable use of biodiversity in Morocco, to the benefit of the local population and the state

Modeling of a New Percutaneous Orthopedic Implant System to Control the Post-surgery Osseointegration Process

This study presents a mechanical model of a novel medical device designed to optimize the osseointegration process in upper and lower limb amputees, leading to the promotion of optimal rehabilitation. The medical device is developed to reduce the risk of implant failure, leading to re-amputation above the implant. The proposed model serves several purposes: 1) to guide the osseointegration process by providing electrical endo-stimulation directly to the bone-implant contact site, using an invasive electrical stimulation system, which is implanted in the bone permanently, 2) to locally transmit stem cells after implantation, without the need for opening the skin or perforating the bone, which is particularly useful for regenerative medicine after partial healing of the implant, 3) to transmit necessary nutrients from the bone, also without opening the skin or puncturing the bone, and 4) to combat infections by locally administering drugs after implantation

Online Learning and Control of Dynamical Systems from Sensory Input

International audienceIdentifying an effective model of a dynamical system from sensory data and using it for future state prediction and control is challenging. Recent data-driven algorithms based on Koopman theory are a promising approach to this problem, but they typically never update the model once it has been identified from a relatively small set of observations, thus making long-term prediction and control difficult for realistic systems, in robotics or fluid mechanics for example. This paper introduces a novel method for learning an embedding of the state space with linear dynamics from sensory data. Unlike previous approaches, the dynamics model can be updated online and thus easily applied to systems with non-linear dynamics in the original configuration space. The proposed approach is evaluated empirically on several classical dynamical systems and sensory modalities, with good performance on long-term prediction and control
