D. Antonio Rolim de Moura’s Journey to Mato Grosso (1751): From Manuscripts to Printed Editions: El viaje de D. Antonio Rolim de Moura a Mato Grosso (1751): de los manuscritos a las ediciones impresas

The travel account of D. Antonio Rolim de Moura, governor of the Mato Grosso captaincy, between São Paulo city and Cuiabá village, between 1750 and 1751, is one of the most cited narratives in Brazilian historiography since the 19th century. However, the historical trajectory of its transmission in the fields of written culture and material culture has never been studied. This article will analyze the editorial mediations involved in the handwritten reproduction of the document and in the editions of the printed material. Therefore, we seek to pay attention to the materiality of the manuscripts; point out the dissimilarities between the versions that compromise the apprehension of the narrative content and highlight the importance of the institutional and intellectual authority of the 19th century for the fixation of the text over time.La relación de viaje de D. Antonio Rolim de Moura, gobernador de la capitanía de Mato Grosso, entre la ciudad de São Paulo y el pueblo de Cuiabá, entre 1750 y 1751, es una de las narrativas más citadas en la historiografía brasileña desde el siglo XIX. Sin embargo, nunca se ha estudiado la trayectoria histórica de su transmisión en los campos de la cultura escrita y la cultura material. Este artículo analizará las mediaciones editoriales involucradas en la reproducción manuscrita del documento y en las ediciones del material impreso. Por tanto, buscamos prestar atención a la materialidad de los manuscritos; señalar las disimilitudes entre las versiones que comprometen la aprehensión del contenido narrativo y resaltar la importancia de la autoridad intelectual e institucional del siglo XIX para la fijación del texto en el tiempo

Laços familiares e aspectos materiais da dinâmica mercantil na cidade de São Paulo (séculos XVIII e XIX)

Based on the family ties established within the active merchant community of the city of São Paulo through the 18th and 19th centuries, the author sets out to tell the life story of nine merchants involved in matrimonial alliances, with a focus on the transactions carried out, their sociopolitical engagement and the fortunes of their descendants. Having done that, she seeks out connections between the urban development of the city center and the activities of these businessmen by means of analyses centered on the material aspects of their lives, particularly those related to their homes and home furniture.A partir das relações familiares estabelecidas no seio do grupo mercantil ativo na cidade de São Paulo ao longo dos séculos XVIII e XIX, pretende-se narrar as trajetórias de vida de nove agentes comerciais envolvidos nas alianças matrimoniais, destacando os negócios realizados, a atuação sociopolítica e o encaminhamento dado aos descendentes. Em seguida, busca-se articular o desenvolvimento urbano do centro da capital com a atuação destes homens de negócio, concentrando as análises sobre aspectos da vida material relacionados às suas moradias e ao mobiliário existente no espaço doméstico

Cardápios e banquetes na Primeira República: notas sobre a curadoria de uma exposição

The aim of this article is to discuss the process of curatorship of the exhibition “Menus and banquets in the First Republic” (1889-1930), opened on November 10, 2015, at the Museu Republicano “Convenção de Itu” - USP. Starting from the photographs and menus belonged to Washington Luís collection, attention was paid on the problematic construction and the selection of pieces of the assortment, the exhibition project, the accomplishment of activities around food culture between late nineteenth century and the first years of the twentieth century and the consequences of curatorship to the present day.O objetivo deste artigo é discutir o processo de curadoria da exposição “Cardápios e banquetes na Primeira República” (1889-1930), inaugurada em 10 de novembro de 2015, no Museu Republicano “Convenção de Itu” - USP. Partindo das fotografias e cardápios da coleção Washington Luís, as atenções recaíram sobre as dinâmicas de construção de problemáticas e seleção das peças do acervo, o desenvolvimento do projeto expográfico, a realização de atividades correlatas em torno do tema das práticas alimentares entre finais do oitocentos e primeira metade século XX e os desdobramentos da curadoria museológica até os dias de hoje
