Valoração de activos intangíveis: o caso dos jogadores de futebol

Mestrado em EconomiaO futebol que no inicio do século XX era praticado a título amador desenvolveu-se de tal forma que hoje representa uma industria que movimenta milhões de euros à escala mundial e onde os jogadores são o elemento chave, o elemento de maior valor. Devido a essa importância dos jogadores de futebol, o objectivo desta dissertação passa por avaliar os jogadores de futebol (suas habilidades) que são reconhecidos como activos intangíveis. O valor do jogador é estimado, através do método de preços hedônicos, recorrendo as características ex ante do jogador, do clube comprador, do clube vendedor, dos países envolvidos e do “timing” da transferência.Football in the early 20th century was very amateur but since then has developed so much that today represents a worldwide industry that moves millions of Euros and which players are the key elements, since they are the element of highest value. Due to the importance football now has, the goal of this project is to evaluate football players (more specifically their talent) which are intangible assets. O desastre da barragem de rejeitos em Mariana, Minas Gerais: aspectos socioambientais e de gestão na exploração de recursos minerais

Este trabalho trata da relação entre a exploração de recursos minerais e a necessidade de uma gestão ambiental cooperada e participativa entre empresas mineradoras, gestores, poder público e sociedade civil organizada. Aborda também, a ‎imprescindibilidade de uma governança territorial voltada para a preservação socioambiental. A problemática aqui desenvolvida coloca no centro da discussão o desastre deflagrado no município de Mariana, Minas Gerais (Brasil), em decorrência do rompimento de uma barragem de rejeitos de minérios, em novembro de 2015, e destaca o papel dos recursos institucionais e da participação da sociedade organizada para a construção de uma política de redução de riscos ambientais.This work addresses the relation between mining resources exploration and the need for cooperative and participatory environmental management amongst mining companies, managers, public entities and organised civil society. It also addresses the essential role of a territorial governance focused on socio-environmental protection. Consequently, the issues discussed here focus on the disaster that occurred in the municipality of Mariana, in the state of Minas Gerais, caused by the breaking of a tailings dam in November 2015. Likewise, the article highlights the role of institutional resources and the participation of organized society in the design of a policy aimed at the reduction of environmental risks.Este trabajo aborda la relación entre la exploración de recursos minerales y la necesidad de una gestión ambiental cooperada y participativa entre empresas del sector minero, gestores, entidades públicas y sociedad civil organizada. Improving production systems with lean: a case study in a medium-sized manufacturer

Lean principles and tools have been increasingly employed in companies across several sectors, with numerous successful implementations both inside and outside production environments. In the case of Portuguese companies, few works have reported the application and corresponding results of lean, and even fewer focusing on small and medium sized companies. This work presents a case study of an implementation of several lean principles and tools in the production sector of a Portuguese medium-sized screw cap manufacturer. Visual management, A3 thinking, and single-minute exchange of die (SMED) were employed to identify and reduce inefficiencies and waste in the shop floor. The implementation of these principles and tools is detailed, showcasing the necessary adjustments for being correctly embedded in the company's culture. Qualitative and quantitative results are presented concerning the case study, where a continuous improvement culture was adhered to and a significant gain in productivity could be observed.publishe

Odontological patients clustering based on art2 neural network

This work presents the application of Artificial Neural Networks, in particular the ART2, for the customer clustering of a dentistry room. The input data used in the application is based on the odontological anamn esis that is a form with a questionnaire applied about the professional to identify the customer case history. The three proposed customer clustering (good, medium, bad) were created with basis on the buccal hygiene care and the similar habits among the cu stomers. The network is trained using non -supervised learning that can be fast or slow learning. Each input data line is formed by the number of interviewed customers (rows) and by the answered questions (columns). A utilização de preços dinâmicos como ferramenta de revenue management na restauração

A gestão eficaz dos preços é crucial para enfrentar a concorrência e impulsionar o crescimento dos negócios. Neste contexto, as estratégias de preços dinâmicos, como ferramenta de Revenue Management, pode vir a tornar-se essencial para gestão de receita nos restaurantes. Embora estratégias de preços dinâmicos já sejam ligeiramente adotadas globalmente, a compreensão e a adoção dessas mesmas estratégias ainda são bastante limitadas em âmbito nacional. Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo avaliar a adoção e o impacto das estratégias de preços dinâmicos em restaurantes na cidade do Porto, que inclui analisar o grau de implementação, o seu impacto na receita e nas reações dos clientes, a avaliação da abertura dos proprietários e gestores a sua implementação, e a investigação das razões que justificam a não utilização dessas estratégias nos restaurantes, abordando perceções, preocupações e obstáculos relacionados. O estudo começa com uma revisão da literatura relacionada às estratégias de Revenue Management a diversos setores, como a hotelaria, a aviação, entre outros, e posteriormente apontada as estratégias de Revenue Management na restauração, com especial enfase nos preços dinâmicos. Optou-se por uma metodologia quantitativa e o instrumento de trabalho utilizado foi o questionário. Entre Março e Junho de 2023 foram efetuadas tentativas de contacto a 93 restaurantes, tendo-se obtido 34 respostas por telefone. Após terem sido analisados todos os dados, chegou-se a resultados que respondem às questões da pesquisa. Foram inclusive identificadas algumas limitações deste estudo e sugeridos temas para futura pesquisa.The restaurant industry is constantly evolving, presenting increasing challenges for its owners and managers. Effective price management is crucial for facing competition and driving business growth. In this context, dynamic pricing strategies, as a Revenue Management tool, may become essential for revenue management in restaurants. While dynamic pricing strategies are already slightly adopted globally, the understanding and adoption of these strategies are still quite limited on a national scale. This research aims to assess the adoption and impact of dynamic pricing strategies in restaurants in the city of Porto. This includes analyzing the degree of implementation, its impact on revenue and customer reactions, evaluating the openness of owners and managers to its implementation, and investigating the reasons for not using these strategies in restaurants, addressing perceptions, concerns, and obstacles. The study begins with a literature review related to Revenue Management strategies across various sectors such as hospitality, and aviation, among others, and then narrows down to Revenue Management strategies in the restaurant industry, with a special emphasis on dynamic pricing. We opted for a quantitative methodology and a questionnaire was the working instrument. Between March and June 2023, attempts were made to contact 93 restaurants, resulting in 34 responses by phone. After analyzing all the data, results have been obtained that address the research question. Limitations of this study were also identified, and suggestions for future research topics were made

A control framework for a remotely operated vehicle

A control framework enabling the automated maneuvering of a Remotely Operate Vehicle (ROV) is presented. The control architecture is structured according to the principle of composition of vehicle motions from a minimal set of elemental maneuvers that are designed and verified independently. The principled approach is based on distributed hybrid systems techniques, and spans integrated design, simulation and implementation as the same model is used throughout. Hybrid systems control techniques are used to synthesize the elemental maneuvers and to design protocols, which coordinate the execution of elemental maneuvers within a complex maneuver.
