    Health system response during the european refugee crisis : policy and practice analysis in four Italian regions

    The decentralization of the provision of health services at the subnational level produces variations in healthcare offered to asylum seekers (ASs) across the different Italian regions, even if they are entitled to healthcare through the national health service. The present study aims to map the healthcare path and regional policies for ASs upon arrival and identify challenges and best practices. This is a multicentric, qualitative study of migrant health policies and practices at the regional level within four Italian regions. For the analysis, a dedicated tool for the systematic comparison of policies and practices was developed. The collection and analysis of data demonstrated the presence of many items of international recommendations, even if many gaps exist and differences between regions remain. The analysis of practices permitted the identification of three models of care and access. Some aspects identified are as follows: fragmentation and barriers to access; a weakness in or lack of a governance system, with the presence of many actors involved; variability in the response between territories. The inclusion of ASs in healthcare services requires intersectoral actions, involving healthcare sectors and other actors within local social structures, in order to add value to local resources and practices, reinforce networks and contribute to social integration

    Adversarial Hamiltonian learning of quantum dots in a minimal Kitaev chain

    Determining Hamiltonian parameters from noisy experimental measurements is a key task for the control of experimental quantum systems. An experimental platform that recently emerged, and where knowledge of Hamiltonian parameters is crucial to fine-tune the system, is that of quantum dot-based Kitaev chains. In this work, we demonstrate an adversarial machine learning algorithm to determine the parameters of a quantum dot-based Kitaev chain. We train a convolutional conditional generative adversarial neural network (Conv-cGAN) with simulated differential conductance data and use the model to predict the parameters at which Majorana bound states are predicted to appear. In particular, the Conv-cGAN model facilitates a rapid, numerically efficient exploration of the phase diagram describing the transition between elastic co-tunneling and crossed Andreev reflection regimes. We verify the theoretical predictions of the model by applying it to experimentally measured conductance obtained from a minimal Kitaev chain consisting of two spin-polarized quantum dots coupled by a superconductor-semiconductor hybrid. Our model accurately predicts, with an average success probability of 9797\%, whether the measurement was taken in the elastic co-tunneling or crossed Andreev reflection-dominated regime. Our work constitutes a stepping stone towards fast, reliable parameter prediction for tuning quantum-dot systems into distinct Hamiltonian regimes. Ultimately, our results yield a strategy to support Kitaev chain tuning that is scalable to longer chains

    Does traumatic occlusal forces lead to peri-implant bone loss? a systematic review

    Observational studies have indicated that crestal bone level changes at implants are typically associated with clinical signs of inflammation, but still mechanical overload has been described as possible factor leading to hard-tissue deficiencies at implant sites without mucosal inflammation. The aim of this paper was systematically review the literature regarding the possible effect of traumatic occlusal forces on the peri-implant bone levels. Literature search was conducted using PubMed, Scielo and Lilacs, including the following terms: oral OR dental AND implantAND(loadORoverloadORexcessiveloadORforce AND (load OR overload OR excessive load OR force OR bruxism) AND (bone loss OR bone resorption OR implant failure$). Databases were searched for the past 10 years of publications, including: clinical human studies, either randomized or not, cohort studies, case control studies, case series and animal research. Exclusion criteria were review articles, guidelines and in vitro and in silico (finite element analysis) research, as well as retrospective studies. The PICO questions formulated was: "does traumatic occlusal forces lead to peri-implant bone loss?" The database searches as well as additional hand searching, resulted in 807 potentially relevant titles. After inclusion/exclusion criteria assessment 2 clinical and 4 animal studies were considered relevant to the topic. The included animal studies did not reveal an association between overload and peri-implant bone loss when lower overloads were applied, whereas in the presence of excessive overload it seemed to generate peri-implant bone loss, even in the absence of inflammation. The effect of traumatic occlusal forces in peri-implant bone loss is poorly reported and provides little evidence to support a cause-and-effect relationship in humans, considering the strength of a clinically relevant traumatic occlusal force33

    REGULATION OF MEMBRANE BAND 3 TYR-PHOSPHORYLATION BY PROTEOLYSIS OF P72 AND POSSIBLE INVOLVEMENT IN SENESCENCE PROCESS

    Erythrocyte senescence is characterized by exposure of cell surface epitopes on cell membrane proteins leading to immune mediated removal of red blood cells. One mechanism for antigen formation is tyrosine phosphorylation (Tyr-P) of the transmembrane protein band 3 by Syk kinase. Our aim was to test the hypothesis that proteolytic activation of Syk kinase by conversion from 72 kDa (p72Syk) to the 36 kDa (p36Syk) isoform enhances its phosphorylating activity independently of the association of Syk kinase with the cytoskeleton. Tyr-P assay was conducted using quantification of 32P uptake into the cytoplasmic domain of band 3 after addition of p72Syk or p36Syk. Effect of prephosphorylation of erythrocyte membrane band 3 protein by p36Syk on p72Syk-mediated phosphorylation and the effect of addition of a protease inhibitor (leupeptin) on p72Syk-mediated phosphorylation were studied by autoradiographic visualization of 32P uptake. Tyr-P by Syk isoforms of membrane skeletal and soluble fractions of band 3 was visualized by immunoblotting. It was found that p36Syk had a higher band 3 tyrosine phosphorylating activity compared with p72Syk. Pre-phosphorylation with p36Syk or p72Syk increased band 3 phosphorylating activity. Protease inhibition treatment reduced p72Syk but not p36Syk band 3 tyrosine phosphorylating activity significantly. Both soluble and membrane skeletal fractions of band 3 protein were equally tyrosine phosphorylated by each Syk isoform. In conclusion, we confirmed the hypothesis that proteolytic cleavage of p72Syk is an important regulatory step for band 3 Tyr-P and its independence of the association of band 3 with the cytoskeleton

Influenza vaccination is currently recommended only for specific groups of healthy adults (such as healthcare workers) even though it was demonstrated to be effective in reducing absenteeism and decreased workers' productivity during flu epidemic period. The main purpose of this study is to analyse the extent of absences due to illness following a voluntary flu immunization program among the Komatsu Italia Manufacturing company's personnel during the flu season 2017-2018.
