This study was designed to establish reference ranges for serum uric acid among healthy adult Assamese population. Samples from 1470 aged 35–86 years were used to establish age and sex related reference range by the centile method (central 95 percentile) for serum uric acid level. There were 51% (n=754) males and 49% (n=716) females; 75.9% (n=1115) of them were from urban area and the rest 24.1% (n=355) were from the rural area. Majority of the population were nonvegetarian (98.6%, n=1450) and only 1.4% (n=20) were vegetarian. The mean age, weight, height, and uric acid of the studied group were 53.6±11.3 years, 62.6±10.5 kg, 160±9.4 cm, and 5.5±1.4 mg/dL, respectively. There is a statistically significant difference in the mean value of the abovementioned parameters between male and female. The observed reference range of uric acid in the population is 2.6–8.2 mg/dL which is wider than the current reference range used in the laboratory. Except gender (P<0.0001), we did not find any significant relation of uric acid with other selected factors

Effect of dietary zinc on the growth and metabolic enzyme activities of golden mahseer (Tor putitora) fry

    Get PDF
The golden mahseer (Tor putitora) is an important and high valued sport and food fish of national and international importance. Therefore for promotion of golden mahseer, proper mineral supplementation in early developmental stages is very important. The present study evaluated the effects of dietary zinc on growth, survivaland physiological response of Tor putitora fry. One thousand eight hundred fry (avg.wt 54.35±3.09 mg) were randomly distributed into 6 treatment groups with triplicates each. Six iso-nitrogenous (40±0.02% to 41.44±0.01% crude protein) semi-purified diets were prepared with graded levels of dietary zinc. Zinc sulphate was added as the dietary zinc source to the basal diet. The results indicated that specific growth rate (SGR) was of value 2.52 ±0.23 gm of T. putitora fry which increased with dietary zinc levels up to a concentration of 40 mg Zn Kg-1 in diet. The zinc dependent metabolic enzymes and antioxidant enzymes was also observed to be highest in groups supplemented with 40 mg zinc/kg feed. The overall results of the present study suggest the efficacy of dietary zinc on growth, survival and physiological response of golden mahseer fry in order to garner the possibility of establishing the species to commercial aquaculture

Lowering solar mixing angle in inverted hierarchy without charged lepton corrections

In the present work, the inverted hierarchical neutrino mass model which is characterised by opposite CP parity in the first two mass eigenvalues (m1,m2,m3)(m_1,-m_2,m_3), is studied in order to lower the predicted value of solar mixing angle tan2θ12\tan^2\theta_{12}, from the tri-bimaximal mixing (TBM), without sacrificing the conditions of maximal atmospheric mixing angle and zero reactor angle. The present attempt is different from the earlier approach where the correction from the charged lepton mass matrix is included in the leptonic mixing matrix to lower the prediction on solar mixing angle. The lowering of the solar mixing angle without charged lepton correction, can be obtained through the variation of the input value of a flavour twister term present in the texture of neutrino mass matrix having a 2-3 symmetry. The present analysis agrees with the latest experimental bounds on neutrino mass parameters and also represents an important result on the survival of the inverted hierarchical neutrino mass models having opposite CP parity in the first two eigenvalues.Comment: 10 pages, two figures. Electrical characteristics of Ag-doped and undoped films of CdSe have been reported. The activation energies at lower and elevated temperatures have been found to be 0.22 and 0.6eV, respectively. The Sn/CdSe junction exhibits Schottky barrier characteristics with diode ideality factor deviating from unity. Barrier height obtained from C-V plot and J- V plot are 0.8 and 0.72eV, respectively. The junction has been endowed with high series resistance

Study of Au, Ni-(n)ZnSe thin film Schottky barrier junctions

Schottky barrier junctions of Al-doped n-type Zinc selenide (ZnSe) thin films of doping concentrations up to 9.7×1014cm−3 have been fabricated with Au and Ni electrodes on glass substrates by sequential thermal evaporation. All of the junctions of different doping concentrations exhibited rectifying current-voltage characteristics with a non-saturating reverse current. From the current-voltage characteristics, the different junction parameters such as ideality factor, saturation current density, series resistance, etc., were measured. Both types of junctions were found to possess a high ideality factor and a high series resistance. The barrier heights of the junctions were measured from Richardson plots and found to be around 0.8 eV. The structures were found to exhibit a poor photovoltaic effect with a fill factor not greater than 0.4. The diode quality as well as the photovoltaic performance of the diodes were improved following a short heat treatment in vacuum
