Antiproton annihilation on light nuclei at very low energies
The recent experimental data obtained by the OBELIX group on D and
He total annihilation cross sections are analyzed. The combined
analysis of these data with existing antiprotonic atom data allows, for the
first time, the imaginary parts of the S-wave scattering lengths for the two
nuclei to be extracted. The obtained values are: for D and for He. This
analysis indicates an unexpected behaviour of the imaginary part of the
-nucleus S-wave scattering length as a function of the atomic weight

Dormancy has been observed in several species of Cyclops. Animals in dormancy are characterised by almost complete inactivity of the main appendages and sluggish intestinal peristalsis. In Cyclops vicinus dormancy can take place in copepod stages III (19%), IV (78%) and V (3%) but one and the same animal only in one developmental stage. The author gives his own results between frequency of dormancy and photoperiod (20 C, 1000 lux). He concludes that dormancy in C. vicinus can be influenced by day length and can be ended prematurely by short day length
Last Mile Delivery with Parcel Lockers: evaluating the environmental impact of eco-conscious consumer behavior
In recent months, online sales have experienced a sharp surge also due to the COVID pandemic. In this paper, we propose a new location and routing problem for a last mile delivery service based on parcel lockers and introduce a mathematical formulation to solve it by means of a MIP solver (Gurobi).The presence of parcel locker stations avoids the door-to-door delivery by companies but requires that consumers move from home to collect their parcels. Potential location of locker stations is known but not all of them need to be opened. The problem minimizes the global environmental impact in terms of distances traveled by both the delivery company and the consumers deciding the optimal number of stations that have to be opened.How much do the number and location of lockers impact on environment? Is the behavior of consumers a critical aspect of such optimization? To this aim we have solved 1680 instances and analyzed diferent scenarios varying the number of consumers and potential parcel lockers, the maximum distance a consumer is willing to travel to reach a locker station, and the maximum distance we may assume the same consumer is willing to travel by foot or by bicycle.The experimental results draw interesting conclusions and managerial insights providing important rules of thumbs for environmental decision makers.Copyright (c) 2022 The Authors. Effect of dietary administration of oil extract from rosemary on reproductive efficiency in boars
A decrease in reproductive performance in boars during and immediately after hot summer weather has been previously reported (Park and Yi, 2002). High temperature causes germ-cell destruction and results in a temporary decrease in sperm production and fertility. The increase of metabolic activity following thermic stress matches with a higher production of free radicals that impairs cells, such as spermatozoa, particularly rich in polyunsatured fatty acids and poor in antioxidants systems

We calculate, in a systematic way, the enhancement effect on
antiproton-proton and antiproton-nucleus annihilation cross sections at low
energy due to the initial state electrostatic interaction between the
projectile and the target nucleus. This calculation is aimed at future

Probiotics action on gliadin sequences relevant to gluten sensitivity
The Celiac disease in genetically predisposed individuals is mainly induced by specific repetitive sequences in gliadins (PQPYP). This autoimmune disease stems from the interaction between toxic sequences and lamina propria cells, that is relevant also to other forms of gluten sensitivity. Specific endo-esoprolinase were isolated from lactic acid bacteria, suggesting possible practical applications. The ability of some probiotics at removing "toxic" celiac sequences was investigated, at first by assessing the presence and level of endo- and eso-prolinase activity in some of the most popular probiotic bacteria. Significant activities were detected in Lactobacillus and Bifidum species, as well as in the probiotic Escherichia coli Niessle 1917. On the basis of prolinase data, we investigated by mass spectroscopy the removal of "toxic" sequences in gliadin. A complete disappearance of these sequences was observed only with Escherichia coli Niessle 1917. Among the Bifidus and Lactobacillus species, only B. bifidum MIMBb23SG and L. acidophilus LA5 showed a significant decrease in the "toxic" sequences. All together, this study suggests a potential use of lactic bacteria to lower gluten response in sensitive individuals, including celiacs and gluten-sensitive
