A Family of unitary higher order equations
A scalar field obeying a Lorentz invariant higher order wave equation, is
minimally coupled to the electromagnetic field. The propagator and vertex
factors for the Feynman diagrams, are determined. As an example we write down
the matrix element for the Compton effect. This matrix element is algebraically
reduced to the usual one for a charged Klein-Gordon particle. It is proved that
the order theory is equivalent to n independent second order
theories. It is also shown that the higher order theory is both renormalizable

Momentum Space Regularizations and the Indeterminacy in the Schwinger Model
We revisited the problem of the presence of finite indeterminacies that
appear in the calculations of a Quantum Field Theory. We investigate the
occurrence of undetermined mathematical quantities in the evaluation of the
Schwinger model in several regularization scenarios. We show that the
undetermined character of the divergent part of the vacuum polarization tensor
of the model, introduced as an {\it ansatz} in previous works, can be obtained
mathematically if one introduces a set of two parameters in the evaluation of
these quantities. The formal mathematical properties of this tensor and their
violations are discussed. The analysis is carried out in both analytical and
sharp cutoff regularization procedures. We also show how the Pauli Villars
regularization scheme eliminates the indeterminacy, giving a gauge invariant
result in the vector Schwinger model.Comment: 10 pages, no figure
Optimization of diarylazines as anti-HIV agents with dramatically
Non-nucleoside inhibitors of HIV-1 reverse transcriptase are reported that have ca. 100-fold greater solubility than the structurally related drugs etravirine and rilpivirine, while retaining high anti-viral activity. The solubility enhancements come from strategic placement of a morpholinylalkoxy substituent in the entrance channel of the NNRTI binding site. Causal Propagators for Algebraic Gauges
Applying the principle of analytic extension for generalized functions we
derive causal propagators for algebraic non-covariant gauges. The so generated
manifestly causal gluon propagator in the light-cone gauge is used to evaluate
two one-loop Feynman integrals which appear in the computation of the
three-gluon vertex correction. The result is in agreement with that obtained

Vacuum state of the quantum string without anomalies in any number of dimensions
We show that the anomalies of the Virasoro algebra are due to the asymmetric
behavior of raising and lowering operators with respect to the ground state of
the string. With the adoption of a symmetric vacuum we obtain a non-anomalous

Two hadron production in e+e- annihilation to next-to-leading order accuracy
We discuss the production of two hadrons in e+e- annihilation within the
framework of perturbative QCD. The cross section for this process is calculated
to next-to-leading order accuracy with a selection of variables that allows the
consideration of events where the two hadrons are detected in the same jet. In
this configuration we contemplate the possibility that the hadrons come from a
double fragmentation of a single parton. The double-fragmentation functions
required to describe the transition of a parton to two hadrons are also
necessary to completely factorize all collinear singularities. We explicitly
show that factorization applies to next-to-leading order in the case of

The Casimir energy of skyrmions in the 2+1-dimensional O(3)-model
One-loop quantum corrections to the classical vortices in 2+1 dimensional
O(3)-models are evaluated. Skyrme and Zeeman potential terms are used to
stabilize the size of topological solitons. Contributions from zero modes,
bound-states and scattering phase-shifts are calculated for vortices with
winding index n=1 and n=2. For both cases the S-matrix shows a pronounced
series of resonances for magnon-vortex scattering in analogy to the
well-established baryon resonances in hadron physics, while vortices with n>2
are already classically unstable against decay. The quantum corrections
destabilize the classically bound n=2 configuration. Approximate independence
of the results with respect to changes in the renormalization scale is

Geometric transport along circular orbits in stationary axisymmetric spacetimes
Parallel transport along circular orbits in orthogonally transitive
stationary axisymmetric spacetimes is described explicitly relative to Lie
transport in terms of the electric and magnetic parts of the induced
connection. The influence of both the gravitoelectromagnetic fields associated
with the zero angular momentum observers and of the Frenet-Serret parameters of
these orbits as a function of their angular velocity is seen on the behavior of
parallel transport through its representation as a parameter-dependent Lorentz
transformation between these two inner-product preserving transports which is
generated by the induced connection. This extends the analysis of parallel
transport in the equatorial plane of the Kerr spacetime to the entire spacetime
outside the black hole horizon, and helps give an intuitive picture of how
competing "central attraction forces" and centripetal accelerations contribute
with gravitomagnetic effects to explain the behavior of the 4-acceleration of
