Graphene-protein bioelectronic devices with wavelength-dependent photoresponse
We implemented a nanoelectronic interface between graphene field effect
transistors (FETs) and soluble proteins. This enables production of
bioelectronic devices that combine functionalities of the biomolecular and
inorganic components. The method serves to link polyhistidine-tagged proteins
to graphene FETs using the tag itself. Atomic Force Microscopy and Raman
spectroscopy provide structural understanding of the bio/nano hybrid;
current-gate voltage measurements are used to elucidate the electronic
properties. As an example application, we functionalize graphene FETs with
fluorescent proteins to yield hybrids that respond to light at wavelengths
defined by the optical absorption spectrum of the proteinComment: 10 pages, 3 figures; To appear in Applied Physics Letter
Application of Mock-Court as an Interdisciplinary Model for Consolidation of Professional Training of Law Students
This study deals with solving the current problem of pedagogy of high school â consolidation of theoretical and practical approaches to ensure the quality of professional training of law students. According to the author, the introduction of simulation modelling technologies in training courses allows enhancing interdisciplinarity in teaching, which is an important way of meeting the dynamic needs of students in close connection of theoretical and practical blocks of professional training of future specialists. The experience of the American Bar Association on the future of legal education has suggested the idea of applying mock-court as interdisciplinary models. Experimental application of mock-court was tested in the courses âCriminal Lawâ and âCivil Lawâ, which are part of the block of special disciplines of the educational and professional training program in specialty 081 âLawâ. Mathematical data processing and STATA software were used to analyse the results obtained and to objectively consider the dynamics of changes in personality-organizational, operational-activity, cognitive-competence, personality-motivational, information-technological, linguistic-communicative components. The study showed the effectiveness of the use of mock-court on the development of all components of the readiness of law students for professional socialization. The authors concluded that the application of mock-court in the professional training of future lawyers contributes to feedback increasing studentsâ educational motivation and allows monitoring of changes in student development. This model can be applied to enhance interdisciplinarity in the teaching of other courses of the block of special subjects of professional training of lawyers
Alternative NADH dehydrogenase extends lifespan and increases resistance to xenobiotics in Drosophila
Mitochondrial alternative NADH dehydrogenase (aNDH) was found to extend lifespan when expressed in the fruit fly. We have found that fruit flies expressing aNDH from Ciona intestinalis (NDX) had 17-71% lifespan prolongation on media with different protein-tocarbohydrate ratios except NDX-expressing males that had 19% shorter lifespan than controls on a high protein diet. NDX-expressing flies were more resistant to organic xenobiotics, 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid and alloxan, and inorganic toxicant potassium iodate, and partially to sodium molybdate treatments. On the other hand, NDX-expressing flies were more sensitive to catechol and sodium chromate. Enzymatic analysis showed that NDX-expressing males had higher glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase activity, whilst both sexes showed increased glutathione S-transferase activity.Peer reviewe

The Theoretical Description for Chlorantraniliprole Electrochemical Determination, Assisted by Squaraine Dye â Nano-CuS Composite
The theoretical description for the chlorantraniliprole electrochemical determination, assisted by the hybrid composite of squaraine dye with CuS nanoparticles has been described. The correspondent reaction mechanism has been proposed, and the correspondent mathematical model has been developed and analyzed by means of linear stability theory and bifurcation analysis. It has been shown that the chlorantraniprole electrochemical anodical determination on high potential may be efficiently provided by cupper sulfide nanoparticles, stabilized by the squaraine dye. On the other hand, the oscillatory and monotonic instability is also possible, being caused by DEL influences of the electrochemical stage.

COVAD survey 2 long-term outcomes: unmet need and protocol
Vaccine hesitancy is considered a major barrier to achieving herd immunity against COVID-19. While multiple alternative and synergistic approaches including heterologous vaccination, booster doses, and antiviral drugs have been developed, equitable vaccine uptake remains the foremost strategy to manage pandemic. Although none of the currently approved vaccines are live-attenuated, several reports of disease flares, waning protection, and acute-onset syndromes have emerged as short-term adverse events after vaccination. Hence, scientific literature falls short when discussing potential long-term effects in vulnerable cohorts. The COVAD-2 survey follows on from the baseline COVAD-1 survey with the aim to collect patient-reported data on the long-term safety and tolerability of COVID-19 vaccines in immune modulation. The e-survey has been extensively pilot-tested and validated with translations into multiple languages. Anticipated results will help improve vaccination efforts and reduce the imminent risks of COVID-19 infection, especially in understudied vulnerable groups
