Stochastic stability versus localization in chaotic dynamical systems
We prove stochastic stability of chaotic maps for a general class of Markov
random perturbations (including singular ones) satisfying some kind of mixing
conditions. One of the consequences of this statement is the proof of Ulam's
conjecture about the approximation of the dynamics of a chaotic system by a
finite state Markov chain. Conditions under which the localization phenomenon
(i.e. stabilization of singular invariant measures) takes place are also
considered. Our main tools are the so called bounded variation approach
combined with the ergodic theorem of Ionescu-Tulcea and Marinescu, and a random
walk argument that we apply to prove the absence of ``traps'' under the action

Precision measurement of the half-life and the decay branches of 62Ga
In an experiment performed at the Accelerator Laboratory of the University of
Jyvaskyla, the beta-decay half-life of 62Ga has been studied with high
precision using the IGISOL technique. A half-life of T1/2 = 116.09(17)ms was
measured. Using beta-gamma coincidences, the gamma intensity of the 954keV
transition and an upper limit of the beta-decay feeding of the 0+_2 state have
been extracted. The present experimental results are compared to previous
measurements and their impact on our understanding of the weak interaction is

First observation of 54Zn and its decay by two-proton emission
The nucleus 54Zn has been observed for the first time in an experiment at the
SISSI/LISE3 facility of GANIL in the quasi-fragmentation of a 58Ni beam at 74.5
MeV/nucleon in a natNi target. The fragments were analysed by means of the
ALPHA-LISE3 separator and implanted in a silicon-strip detector where
correlations in space and time between implantation and subsequent decay events
allowed us to generate almost background free decay spectra for about 25
different nuclei at the same time. Eight 54Zn implantation events were
observed. From the correlated decay events, the half-life of 54Zn is determined
to be 3.2 +1.8/-0.8 ms. Seven of the eight implantations are followed by
two-proton emission with a decay energy of 1.48(2) MeV. The decay energy and
the partial half-life are compared to model predictions and allow for a test of

Proton drip-line nuclei in Relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory
Ground-state properties of spherical even-even nuclei and
are described in the framework of Relativistic Hartree Bogoliubov
(RHB) theory. The model uses the NL3 effective interaction in the mean-field
Lagrangian, and describes pairing correlations by the pairing part of the
finite range Gogny interaction D1S. Binding energies, two-proton separation
energies, and proton radii that result from fully self-consistent RHB
solutions are compared with experimental data. The model predicts the location
of the proton drip-line. The isospin dependence of the effective spin-orbit
potential is discussed, as well as pairing properties that result from the

On the discovery of doubly-magic Ni
The paper reports on the first observation of doubly-magic Nickel-48 in an
experimental at the SISSI/LISE3 facility of GANIL. Four Nickel-48 isotopes were
identified. In addition, roughly 100 Nickel-49, 50 Iron-45, and 290 Chromium-42
isotopes were observed. This opens the possibility to search for two-proton

Superconducting thin films of MgB2 on (001)-Si by pulsed laser deposition
Superconducting thin films have been prepared on Si-substrates, using pulsed
laser deposition from a target composed of a mixture of Mg and MgB2 powders.
The films were deposited at room temperature and post-annealed at 600 degrees
C. The zero resistance transition temperatures were 12 K, with an onset
transition temperature of 27 K. Special care has been taken to avoid oxidation
of Mg in the laser plasma and deposited film, by optimizing the background
pressure of Ar gas in the deposition chamber. For this the optical emission in
the visible range from the plasma has been used as indicator. Preventing Mg
from oxidation was found to be essential to obtain superconducting films
Estabelecimento de cultura de células em suspensão e identificação de flavonóides em Cordia verbenácea DC.
O trabalho teve como objetivos o estabelecimento de culturas de células em suspensão, extração, separação e identificação de flavonóides em extratos de folhas e de células em suspensão de Cordia verbenacea. Células dessa espécie, após terem sido subcultivadas três vezes no meio MS suplementado com 2,32 ?M de cinetina + 10,74 ?M de ANA a intervalos de 28 dias, apresentaram cinco estágios de crescimento: as fases lag, exponencial, linear, desaceleração e estacionária. O maior percentual de crescimento (37%) ocorreu no período exponencial entre o quarto e o décimo segundo dia e o menor (3%) na fase lag até o quarto dia. Para identificação de flavonóides, foram usados extratos submetidos à separação e purificação por CCD e CCL e os componentes obtidos submetidos à Espectroscopia de Ultravioleta, Espectrometria de Infravermelho e Massa e Ressonância Magnética Nuclear de Hidrogênio. Após as frações das amostras de folhas e células terem sido separadas pelo eluente ácido acético, foram identificados os componentes 7,4?-diidróxi-5?-carboximetóxi isoflavona e 7,4?-diidróxi-5?-metil isoflavona. Chaotic Cascades with Kolmogorov 1941 Scaling
We define a (chaotic) deterministic variant of random multiplicative cascade
models of turbulence. It preserves the hierarchical tree structure, thanks to
the addition of infinitesimal noise. The zero-noise limit can be handled by
Perron-Frobenius theory, just as the zero-diffusivity limit for the fast dynamo
problem. Random multiplicative models do not possess Kolmogorov 1941 (K41)
scaling because of a large-deviations effect. Our numerical studies indicate
that deterministic multiplicative models can be chaotic and still have exact
K41 scaling. A mechanism is suggested for avoiding large deviations, which is

Personalized cancer medicine and the future of pathology
In February 2011, a group of pathologists from different departments in Europe met in Zurich, Switzerland, to discuss opportunities and challenges for pathology in the era of personalized medicine. The major topics of the meeting were assessment of the role of pathology in personalized medicine, its future profile among other biomedical disciplines with an interest in personalized medicine as well as the evolution of companion diagnostics. The relevance of novel technologies for genome analysis in clinical practice was discussed. The participants recognize that there should be more initiatives taken by the pathology community in companion diagnostics and in the emerging field of next-generation sequencing and whole genome analysis. The common view of the participants was that the pathology community has to be mobilized for stronger engagement in the future of personalized medicine. Pathologists should be aware of the challenges and the analytical opportunities of the new technologies. Challenges of clinical trial design as well as insurance and reimbursement questions were addressed. The pathology community has the responsibility to lead medical colleagues into embracing this new area of genomic medicine.
