Message Reduction in the LOCAL Model Is a Free Lunch

A new spanner construction algorithm is presented, working under the LOCAL model with unique edge IDs. Given an n-node communication graph, a spanner with a constant stretch and O(n^{1 + epsilon}) edges (for an arbitrarily small constant epsilon > 0) is constructed in a constant number of rounds sending O(n^{1 + epsilon}) messages whp. Consequently, we conclude that every t-round LOCAL algorithm can be transformed into an O(t)-round LOCAL algorithm that sends O(t * n^{1 + epsilon}) messages whp. This improves upon all previous message-reduction schemes for LOCAL algorithms that incur a log^{Omega (1)} n blow-up of the round complexity

Conjunctival trauma following inadvertent use of nail glue containing cyanoacrylate, leads to patient education pamphlet

Similarities in packaging, bottle size and cap design of nail glue with ophthalmic products has led to patient confusion and inadvertent use of nail glue causing ocular trauma both in the adult and pediatric population. Despite efforts and pressures from several reports, little has been achieved with respect to unregulated health and beauty products. This case report describes a conjunctival trauma caused by inadvertent use of nail glue and highlights the importance of patient education. Basic precautions, such as reading the label of ophthalmic medication under proper lighting and with adequate correction coupled with the segregation of ophthalmic products from others in the medicine cabinet, could prevent ocular injury. To this end, an awareness pamphlet has been created to bring further awareness to this issue

Transformative Feminist Approach to Tort Law: Exposing, Changing, Expanding - The Israeli Case

Tort law developed into a cornerstone of private law through the influence of traditional legal approaches, such as legal realism and economic reasoning. However, second-wave feminist analysis has also transformed tort law in recent years. By comparing U.S. and Israeli cases, the author demonstrates that feminist critique has added a new dimension to this legal field. Chapter One introduces the obstacles that have impeded the mainstreaming of feminist discourse. Chapter Two explores how gender biases inherent and perpetuated in tort law better serve men than women. The eventual exposure of these biases led to feminist-derived changes in Israeli tort law, which is explained in Chapter Three. The final chapter identifies the limitations of current feminist analysis to tort law, and concludes with the author\u27s support for further evolution and application of this analysis
