Structure of molecular packing probed by polarization-resolved nonlinear four-wave mixing and coherent anti-Stokes Raman-scattering microscopy

    No full text
International audienceWe report a method that is able to provide refined structural information on molecular packing in biomolecular assemblies using polarization-resolved four-wavemixing and coherent anti-Stokes Raman-scattering microscopy. These third-order nonlinear processes allow quantifying high orders of symmetry which are exploited here to reveal a high level of detail in the angular disorder behavior at the molecular scale in lipid membranes

Decoupling between Field-instabilities of Antiferromagnetism and Pseudo-metamagnetism in Rh-doped CeRu2Si2 Kondo Lattice

Doping Kondo lattice system CeRu2Si2 with Rh-8% (Ce(Ru0.92Rh0.08)2Si2) leads to drastic consequences due to the mismatch of the lattice parameters between CeRu2Si2 and CeRh2Si2. A large variety of experiments clarifies the unusual properties of the ground state induced by the magnetic field from longitudinal antiferromagnetic (AF) mode at H = 0 to polarized paramagnetic phase in very high magnetic field. The separation between AF phase, paramagnetic phase and polarized paramagnetic phase varying with temperature, magnetic field and pressure is discussed on the basis of the experiments down to very low temperature. Similarities and differences between Rh and La substituted alloys are discussed with emphasis on the competition between transverse and longitudinal AF modes, and ferromagnetic fluctuations.Comment: 10 pages, 21 figures, accepted for publication in J. Chemical composition of nanoporous layer formed by electrochemical etching of p-type GaAs

Abstract : We have performed a detailed characterization study of electrochemically etched p-type GaAs in a hydrofluoric acid-based electrolyte. The samples were investigated and characterized through cathodoluminescence (CL), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). It was found that after electrochemical etching, the porous layer showed a major decrease in the CL intensity and a change in chemical composition and in the crystalline phase. Contrary to previous reports on p-GaAs porosification, which stated that the formed layer is composed of porous GaAs, we report evidence that the porous layer is in fact mainly constituted of porous As2O3. Finally, a qualitative model is proposed to explain the porous As2O3 layer formation on p-GaAs substrate

Ataxia in children: think about vitamin E deficiency ! (comment on: ataxia in children: early recognition and clinical evaluation)

Abstract A recent article from Pavone et al. published in the Italian Journal of Pediatrics entitled «Ataxia in children: early recognition and clinical evaluation» made an exhaustive overview of the large spectrum of pediatric ataxias. However, we would underline the importance of considering hereditary ataxia due to isolated vitamin E deficiency as a specific and treatable cause of child ataxia. We present a short clinical and therpeutic synopsis of this peculiar genetic etiology, frequently encountred in the mediterranean region
