Cyber-Security Risks of Fedwire
This paper will review the risks associated with the Federal Reserve\u27s Fedwire network as a key resource necessary for the efficient function of the American financial system. It will examine the business model of the Fedwire system of real-time interbank transfers, the network characteristics of Fedwire, and the possibility of a successful attack on Fedwire and its potential impact on the U.S. financial system
The United States and Great Britain on the African slave trade, 1842-1862.
The African slave trade to the United States lasted for over two hundred and forty years, but it was in the course of the last twenty years from 1842-62 that the United States and Great Britain became mutally involved in its suppression. During this period, the United States and Great Britain emerged as the prime movers in the suppression of the slave trade. In the years just prior to and during the Civil War the two nations moved from an attitude of discord to one of cooperation. It is therefore the purpose of this thesis to present a drama of conflicting and confusing policies of the two nations, in their attempt to suppress the African Slave Trade
Search for Exotic Muon Decays
Recently, it has been proposed that the observed anomaly in the time
distribution of neutrino induced reactions, reported by the KARMEN
collaboration, can be interpreted as a signal from an exotic muon decay branch
mu+ to e+ X. It has been shown that this hypothesis gives an acceptable fit to
the KARMEN data if the boson X has a mass of m_X=103.9MeV/c^2, close to the
kinematical limit. We have performed a search for the X particle by studying
for the first time the very low energy part of the Michel spectrum in mu+
decays. Using a HPGe detector setup at the muE4 beamline at PSI we find
branching ratios BR(mu+ to e+ X)<5.7e-4 (90% C.L.) for most of the region
103MeV/c^2<m_X<105MeV/c^2.Comment: 9 page
Collision damping in the pi 3He -> d'N reaction near the threshold
We present a simple quantum mechanical model exploiting the optical potential
approach for the description of collision damping in the reaction pi 3He -> d'N
near the threshold, which recently has been measured at TRIUMF. The influence
of the open d'N -> NNN channel is taken into account. It leads to a suppression
factor of about ten in the d' survival probability. Applications of the method
to other reactions are outlined.Comment: RevTeX4, 14 pages, 3 Postscript figures, uses epsfig.sty, to appear

Search for Narrow NNpi Resonances in Exclusive p p -> p p pi+ pi- Measurements
Narrow structures in the range of a few MeV have been searched for in p p pi+
and p p pi- invariant mass spectra obtained from exclusive measurements of the
p p -> p p pi+ pi- reaction at Tp = 725, 750 and 775 MeV using the PROMICE/WASA
detector at CELSIUS. The selected reaction is particularily well suited for the
search for NN and / or N Delta decoupled dibaryon resonances. Except for a
possible fluctuation at 2087 MeV/c^2 in Mpppi- no narrow structures could be
identified neither in Mpppi+ nor in Mpppi- on the 3 sigma level of statistical
significance, giving an upper limit (95% C.L.) for dibaryon production in this
reaction of sigma < 20 nb for 2020 MeV/c^2 < m(dibaryon) < 2085 MeV/c^2Comment: 3 pages, 4 figure
Measurement of phosphorus segregation in silicon at the atomic-scale using STM
In order to fabricate precise atomic-scale devices in silicon using a
combination of scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) and molecular beam epitaxy
it is necessary to minimize the segregation/diffusion of dopant atoms during
silicon encapsulation. We characterize the surface segregation/diffusion of
phosphorus atoms from a -doped layer in silicon after encapsulation at
250C and room temperature using secondary ion mass spectrometry
(SIMS), Auger electron spectroscopy (AES), and STM. We show that the surface
phosphorus density can be reduced to a few percent of the initial
-doped density if the phosphorus atoms are encapsulated with 5 or 10
monolayers of epitaxial silicon at room temperature. We highlight the
limitations of SIMS and AES to determine phosphorus segregation at the
atomic-scale and the advantage of using STM directly
Patient evaluation of the use of follitropin alfa in a prefilled ready-to-use injection pen in assisted reproductive technology: an observational study

Abstract

Background

Self-administration of recombinant human follicle-stimulating hormone (r-hFSH) can be performed using injection pen devices by women undergoing assisted reproductive technology procedures. The objective of this study was to explore the use of the prefilled follitropin alfa pen in routine assisted reproductive technology procedures in Germany.

Methods

This prospective, observational study was conducted across 43 German IVF centres over a period of 1.75 years. Patients who had used the prefilled follitropin alfa pen in the current or a previous cycle of controlled ovarian stimulation completed a questionnaire to assess their opinions of the device.

Results

A total of 5328 patients were included in the study. Of these, 2888 reported that they had previous experience of daily FSH injections. Significantly more patients reported that less training was required to use the prefilled follitropin alfa pen than a syringe and lyophilized powder (1997/3081 [64.8%]; p < 0.001 'less' versus 'more' training). Significantly more patients rated the prefilled follitropin alfa pen as easier in terms of use (2321/3206, 72.4%; p < 0.001 'much more easy' versus 'less easy') and daily injection (2384/3262, 73.1%; p < 0.001 'much more easy' versus 'less easy') than existing injection methods. Approximately one third of respondents rated the prefilled follitropin alfa pen as easier to use than the follitropin beta pen with reloadable cartridges. The majority (3378/4024, 83.9%) of patients had a general preference for the prefilled follitropin alfa pen over other injection methods.

Conclusions

In this questionnaire-based survey, routine use of the prefilled follitropin alfa pen was well accepted and associated with favourable patient perceptions. Users of the pen found it easier to initially learn how to use, and subsequently use, than other injection methods. In general, the prefilled follitropin alfa pen was the preferred method for self-administration of gonadotrophins. Together with previous findings, the results here indicate a high level of patient satisfaction among users of the prefilled follitropin alfa pen for daily self-administration of r-hFSH.</p
Biotic Integrity of macroinvertebrate communities along the I-294 corridor
Sampled macroinvertebrates following ILEPA protocol at 7 sites in August–September 2015 in the I-294 corridor and calculated biotic integrity metrics
•
Assessed sites based on the Qualitative Stream Habitat Assessment Procedure (SHAP)
•
Measured physical (width, depth, velocity) and chemical (pH, conductivity, salinity, total dissolved solids) characteristics
•
Habitat assessment showed impairment compared to Illinois reference conditions at all sites
•
Macroinvertebrate Index of Biotic Integrity rated 6 sites as “Poor” and one as “Fair”
▷▷
Total taxa richness ranged from 10 to 19 across sites
▷▷
4 of the 7 sites had no EPT (Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, Trichoptera) taxa

The Reaction 7Li(pi+,pi-)7B and its Implications for 7B
The reaction 7Li(pi+,pi-)7B has been measured at incident pion energies of
30-90 MeV. 7Li constitutes the lightest target nucleus, where the pionic charge
exchange may proceed as a binary reaction to a discrete final state. Like in
the Delta-resonance region the observed cross sections are much smaller than
expected from the systematics found for heavier nuclei. In analogy to the
neutron halo case of 11Li this cross section suppression is interpreted as
evidence for a proton halo in the particle-unstable nucleus 7B.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
Induction of Lambing at Weekly Intervals
Lambing season is the time in the sheep production year which demands the largest input of labor. Due to problems associated with the birth process, it is also one of the most critical times. By controlling the time of parturition, producers are better able to schedule labor and facilities more effectively. Ewes induced to lamb on specified days allow for more uniform groups of lambs for management practices. Flumethasone, a glucocorticoid, will induce parturition in ewes when administered late in gestation. The objective of this study was to determine the optimum range of days for once per week treatment for practical application of a grouped lambing program
