Transport behaviour of a Bose Einstein condensate in a bichromatic optical lattice

    Get PDF
The Bloch and dipole oscillations of a Bose Einstein condensate (BEC) in an optical superlattice is investigated. We show that the effective mass increases in an optical superlattice, which leads to localization of the BEC, in accordance with recent experimental observations [16]. In addition, we find that the secondary optical lattice is a useful additional tool to manipulate the dynamics of the atoms.Comment: Modified manuscrip

Generation of Test Vectors for Sequential Cell Verification

    Get PDF
For Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC) and System-on-Chip (SOC) designs, Cell - Based Design (CBD) is the most prevalent practice as it guarantees a shorter design cycle, minimizes errors and is easier to maintain. In modern ASIC design, standard cell methodology is practiced with sizable libraries of cells, each containing multiple implementations of the same logic functionality, in order to give the designer differing options based on area, speed or power consumption. For such library cells, thorough verification of functionality and timing is crucial for the overall success of the chip, as even a small error can prove fatal due to the repeated use of the cell in the design. Both formal and simulation based methods are being used in the industry for cell verification. We propose a method using the latter approach that generates an optimized set of test vectors for verification of sequential cells, which are guaranteed to give complete Single Input Change transition coverage with minimal redundancy. Knowledge of the cell functionality by means of the State Table is the only prerequisite of this procedure

Entangling two Bose Einstein condensates in a double cavity system

We propose a scheme to transfer the quantum state of light fields to the collective density excitations of a Bose Einstein condensate (BEC) in a cavity. This scheme allows to entangle two BECs in a double cavity setup by transferring the quantum entanglement of two light fields produced from a nondegenerate parametric amplifier (NOPA) to the collective density excitations of the two BECs. An EPR state of the collective density excitations can be created by a judicious choice of the system parameters.Comment: 3 figure

Maternal Health Care Services Utilization in Tea Gardens of Darjeeling, India

Background: Since independence, the Government of India has made great eff orts to curb maternal mortality and morbidity by introducing various women-oriented developmental programs. Despite this, India is still struggling with a high maternal mortality and morbidity, which is compounded by low utilization of maternal health care services. Aim: The study is aimed to fi nd out the status of maternal health care services utilization and associated factors among recently delivered women in a block of Darjeeling district of West BengalSubjects and Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out among 953 recently delivered women residing in tea gardens of Darjeeling district of West Bengal. Utilization of maternal health care services including antenatal care during pregnancy, provision of safe delivery and postnatal care after delivery was assessed among them. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 16 (IL, Chicago, USA). Logistic regression analysis was done. P values less than 0.05 were considered as signifi cant. Results: The utilization of full antenatal care was 48.6% (463/953), institutional delivery 73.5% (700/953) and adequate postnatal visit was 72.6% (692/953) among the study population. The important factors associated with low utilization of services were belonging to Islam, Scheduled tribe, lower socio-economic status, and lower literacy level of both the husband and wife. The major barrier towards utilization of these services was ignorance followed by distance to the health care center. Conclusion: The present study revealed low utilization of pregnancy-related health care utilization among the study population; especially in case of antenatal care. The study can provide new insight for policy makers to devote resources for achieving the best possible quality of maternal and child health services.  Keywords: Antenatal care, institutional delivery, maternal health care utilization, postnatal car

Concrete Analysis and Trade-Offs for the (Complete Tree) Layered Subset Difference Broadcast Encryption Scheme

Two key parameters of broadcast encryption (BE) schemes are the transmission size and the user storage. Naor-Naor-Lotspiech (2001) introduced the subset difference (SD) scheme achieving a good trade-off between these two parameters. Halevy-Shamir (2002) introduced the idea of layering to reduce user storage of the NNL scheme at the cost of increased transmission overhead. Here, we introduce several simple ideas to obtain new layering strategies with different trade-offs between user storage and transmission overhead. We define the notion of storage minimal layering and describe a dynamic programming algorithm to compute layering schemes for which the user storage is the minimum attainable using layerings. Further, the constrained minimization problem is considered. A method is described which yields BE schemes whose transmission overhead is not much more than the SD scheme but, whose user storage is still significantly lower. Finally, an O(r log2 n) algorithm is obtained to compute the average transmission overhead for any layering-based scheme where r out of n users are revoked. This algorithm works for any layering strategy and also for arbitrary number of users. The algorithm has been used here to generate all data for the average transmission overhead
