    Specific Heat Exponent for the 3-d Ising Model from a 24-th Order High Temperature Series

    We compute high temperature expansions of the 3-d Ising model using a recursive transfer-matrix algorithm and extend the expansion of the free energy to 24th order.     Series expansions without diagrams

    We discuss the use of recursive enumeration schemes to obtain low and high temperature series expansions for discrete statistical systems. Using linear combinations of generalized helical lattices, the method is competitive with diagramatic approaches and is easily generalizable. We illustrate the approach using the Ising model and generate low temperature series in up to five dimensions and high temperature series in three dimensions. The method is general and can be applied to any discrete model. We describe how it would work for Potts models.Comment: 24 pages, IASSNS-HEP-93/1

    Lived Experiences of the Indian Stigmatized Group in Reference to Socio-Political Empowerment: A Phenomenological Approach

    The authors present the lived experiences of the stigmatized castes in the context of the opportunities made available by the government of India for their Socio-Political Empowerment. The study aimed to gain an understanding about the respondents’ unique experiences of caste-based stigmatization at their workplace, their overall experience of empowerment at work and the other spheres of their lives, and to capture their perceived importance of, and the success of reservation policy as well as several other initiatives taken by the Government of India for empowering the marginalized castes. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 male Schedule Caste/Schedule Tribe respondents working at respectable positions in the government organizations situated in the National Capital Region of Delhi. The phenomenological approach (Langdridge, 2007) was used to unearth the essence of the participant’s experiences of stigma driven treatments. The overall perceptions and experiences of the respondents included experiencing direct and indirect forms of caste-related discrimination at workplace; experiencing economic, social and psychological empowerment but not at the workplace; favouring the policy of reservation for Schedule Caste/Schedule Tribe in government jobs; and believing in the improper implementation of policies in India. The research findings indicate the incomplete success of the governmental policies for the holistic empowerment of the Indian marginalized castes

    Low temperature expansion for the 3-d Ising Model

    We compute the weak coupling expansion for the energy of the three dimensional Ising model through 48 excited bonds. We also compute the magnetization through 40 excited bonds. This was achieved via a recursive enumeration of states of fixed energy on a set of finite lattices.     How light can the Higgs be?

    It is widely believed that, for a given Top mass, the Higgs mass has a lower bound: if m_Higgs is too small, the Higgs vacuum is unstable due to Top dynamics. From vacuum instability, the state-of-the-art calculation of the lower bound is close to the current experimental limit. Using non-perturbative simulations and large N calculations, we show that the vacuum is in fact never unstable.     A Noisy Monte Carlo Algorithm

    We propose a Monte Carlo algorithm to promote Kennedy and Kuti's linear accept/reject algorithm which accommodates unbiased stochastic estimates of the probability to an exact one. This is achieved by adopting the Metropolis accept/reject steps for both the dynamical and noise configurations. We test it on the five state model and obtain desirable results even for the case with large noise.     Large-q expansion of the energy and magnetization cumulants for the two-dimensional q-state Potts model

    We have calculated the large-q expansion for the energy cumulants and the magnetization cumulants at the phase transition point in the two-dimensional q-state Potts model to the 21st or 23rd order in 1/q1/\sqrt{q} using the finite lattice method. The obtained series allow us to give very precise estimates of the cumulants for q>4q>4 on the first order transition point. The result confirms us the correctness of the conjecture by Bhattacharya et al. on the asymptotic behavior not only of the energy cumulants but also of the magnetization cumulants for q→4+q \to 4_+.Comment: 36 pages, LaTeX, 20 postscript figures, to appear in Nuclear Physics

    Application of exchange Monte Carlo method to ordering dynamics

    We apply the exchange Monte Carlo method to the ordering dynamics of the three-state Potts model with the conserved order parameter. Even for the deeply quenched case to low temperatures, we have observed a rapid domain growth; we have proved the efficiency of the exchange Monte Carlo method for the ordering process. The late-stage growth law has been found to be R(t)∌t1/3R(t) \sim t^{1/3} for the case of conserved order parameter of three-component system.Comment: 7 pages including 5 eps figures, to appear in New J.
