Application and Scope of Data Mining in Agriculture

Making agriculture sustainable and resilient to the ongoing change in climate and social structure is a major challenge for the scientists and researchers across the globe. Agricultural system demands transition and a multidisciplinary approach. Intelligent and precision agricultural approaches were given due importance for increasing production and productivity from the very same limited resources. The approach needs information from various sources and efficient use of them in relevant field. This need lead to growing interest in knowledge discovery from vast piles of data generated out of various research and survey works. The emergence of Data Mining techniques revolutionized the field of information generation and pattern recognition. Though Data Mining is an emerging science, it finds a wide application in agriculture and allied sectors, and has a wide future prospect

Impact of water deficit stress on biomass production of different gladiolus cultivars under rainfed condition

Among the environmental stresses, water deficit stress was recognized to be one of the most adverse factors for plant growth and productivity. The study aimed to comparatively evaluate impact of water deficit stress on biomass of seven cultivars of gladiolus in terms of leaf area duration and net assimilation rate under rainfed conditions in northeastern region of India. Also, productions in terms of marketable spikes were compared. The parameters were measured using standard procedures. Comparatively higher leaf area duration (116 days) and net assimilation rate were found in cultivars Aarti (116 days and1.62 gcm-2day-1x10-3 respectively) and Suchitra (98.0 days and 1.10 gcm-2day-1x10-3) which account for their higher biomass production with larger spike size with good numbers of flowers. The highest marketable spikes (71111.11 spikes ha-1) was found in cultivar Aarti followed by Suchitra (68148.14 spikes ha-1) which might be due to its comparatively higher biomass production and less deviation, during stress condition, from normal characteristics. The tolerant cultivars are those that can adapt to the change without much change in their normal growth. And the responses of those species are commercially acceptable that promote adaptation without compromising much with the plant growth and crop production

A unique indigenous justice delivery system of tribes of eastern Himalayan region of India

Almost all the tribes across the world have their own indigenous concept of rules, regulation and grievance redress system developed with the evolution of the community to maintain peace, justice and harmony. The indigenous people takes law as a way of life and understand it through experience and interactions. The objective of the current research was to study one unique justice delivery system to address non-criminal cases that cannot be dealt with normal procedure due to lack of evidence, witness and formal proof. The system is prevailing among the tribes of eastern Himalayan region of India. The phenomenological approach was used to study the system as it is in situ. The justice is delivered on the basis of unique system of decision making between two alternatives based on the shape of chicken liver. Involvement of spirituality and spirit make the system acceptable to both the complainant and defendant. The unique characteristic of the system is that it does not penalize the loser, instead the court pray for them and bless them for abiding the decision of the court in presence of the spirit. The justice delivery system aims to maintain harmony in the society as well as save the face of both the loser and winner. In the present system, the justice delivered may be not the just decision, but the loser accepts the decision considering it as the command of the god and spirit without keeping any grudges against the winner. The system demands participation of whole village irrespective of gender and ages, with fundamental aim of preserving the custom and hand down to the next generation
