Update of the Unitarity Triangle Analysis
We present the status of the Unitarity Triangle Analysis (UTA), within the
Standard Model (SM) and beyond, with experimental and theoretical inputs
updated for the ICHEP 2010 conference. Within the SM, we find that the general
consistency among all the constraints leaves space only to some tension
(between the UTA prediction and the experimental measurement) in BR(B -> tau
nu), sin(2 beta) and epsilon_K. In the UTA beyond the SM, we allow for New
Physics (NP) effects in (Delta F)=2 processes. The hint of NP at the 2.9 sigma
level in the B_s-\bar B_s mixing turns out to be confirmed by the present
update, which includes the new D0 result on the dimuon charge asymmetry but not
the new CDF measurement of phi_s, being the likelihood not yet released.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, Proceedings of the 35th International Conference

Vortex vs spinning string: Iordanskii force and gravitational Aharonov-Bohm effect
We discuss the transverse force acting on the spinning cosmic string, moving
in the background matter. It comes from the gravitational Aharonov-Bohm effect
and corresponds to the Iordanskii force acting on the vortex in superfluids,
when the vortex moves with respect to the normal component of the liquid.Comment: Latex file, 9 pages, no figures, references are added, version

Standard Model updates and new physics analysis with the Unitarity Triangle ïŹt
International audienceWe present the update of the Unitarity Triangle (UT) analysis performed by the UTïŹt Collaboration within the Standard Model (SM) and beyond. Within the SM, combining the direct measurements on sides and angles, the UT turns out to be over-constrained in a consistent way, with some tension due to recently included contributions to the theoretical prediction of ΔK and the updated lattice average for BK. Generalising the UT analysis to investigate NP effects, constraints on bâs transitions are also included and both CKM and NP parameters are ïŹtted simultaneously. The most interesting results on the bâs transitions come from the BsâÂŻ Bs mixing and the di-muon charge asymmetry with updated results recently available from the Tevatron experiments. We observe a departure from the SM in the Bs sector
The Unitarity Triangle Analysis within and beyond the Standard Model
International audienceWe present the status of the Unitarity Triangle Analysis (UTA) performed by the UTïŹt Collaboration, with experimental and theoretical inputs updated for the last summer conferences. Several analyses are presented, corresponding to different assumptions for the theoretical model, that is either the Standard Model, or Minimal Flavour Violation orc ompletely generic NewPhysics
Reply to Comment "Invalidity of classes of approximate Hall effect calculations."
We reply to the criticism raised by Ao in his Comment (cond-mat/9801180).
Being unable to properly treat the Hall conductivity in a mixed state of
superconductors, Ao is looking for possible mistakes in microscopic and
phenomenological calculations, as well as in the corresponding experiments. The
errors in his treatment of the problem (cond-mat/9704247) are analized. We
indicate where the approach advocated by him fails to properly account for the
interaction with impurities and other sources of relaxation.Comment: reply to Comment by Ao (cond-mat/9801180) on our paper in PRL, 79,

Limitations of the isolated GP-STN network
An in vitro mouse slice preparation from control and MPTP-treated mice in which functional reciprocal GP-STN connectivity is maintained, does not produce oscillatory bursting or synchronous activity neuronal activity. Pharmacological interventions that produce bursting activity do so without concomitant neuronal synchrony, or a requirement for glutamate or GABA transmission. Pre-treatment with MPTP did not alter this behaviour. Thus, we have no evidence that the functionally connected, but isolated, GP â STN network can act as a pacemaker for synchronous correlated activity in the basal ganglia and must conclude that other inputs such as those from cortex and/or striatum are required
Corporate financing decisions: UK survey evidence
Despite theoretical developments in recent years, our understanding of corporate capital structure remains incomplete. Prior empirical research has been dominated by archival regression studies which are limited in their ability to fully reflect the diversity found in practice. The present paper reports on a comprehensive survey of corporate financing decision-making in UK listed companies. A key finding is that firms are heterogeneous in their capital structure policies. About half of the firms seek to maintain a target debt level, consistent with trade-off theory, but 60 per cent claim to follow a financing hierarchy, consistent with pecking order theory. These two theories are not viewed by respondents as either mutually exclusive or exhaustive. Many of the theoretical determinants of debt levels are widely accepted by respondents, in particular the importance of interest tax shield, financial distress, agency costs and also, at least implicitly, information asymmetry. Results also indicate that cross-country institutional differences have a significant impact on financial decisions
The Physics of Heavy Flavours at SuperB
This is a review of the SuperB project, covering the accelerator, detector,
and highlights of the broad physics programme. SuperB is a flavour factory
capable of performing precision measurements and searches for rare and
forbidden decays of , , and
particles. These results can be used to test fundamental symmetries and
expectations of the Standard Model, and to constrain many different
hypothesised types of new physics. In some cases these measurements can be used
to place constraints on the existence of light dark matter and light Higgs
particles with masses below . The potential impact of the
measurements that will be made by SuperB on the field of high energy physics is
also discussed in the context of data taken at both high energy in the region
around the \Upsilon({\mathrm{4S}})$, and near charm threshold.Comment: 49 pages, topical review submitted to J. Phys
The UTfit collaboration average of D meson mixing data: Winter 2014
We update the analysis of D meson mixing including the latest experimental results as of January 2014. We derive constraints on the parameters M 12, Î12 and Ί12 that describe D meson mixing using all available data, allowing for CP violation. We also provide posterior distributions for observable parameters appearing in D physics
