Detection and Imaging of Defects Especially Materials with Small UT Transducers Using Broad-Band Holography

    Get PDF
Since conventional single frequency acoustical holography provides only poor axial resolution, this concept was improved with the multifrequency holography to enhance the imaging quality. This leads to long data acquisition times because of the need to measure each frequency. A further step towards a fast imaging system with good spatial resolution is broadband holography. Here, one illuminates the object with broadband signals in a single measurement procedure

New constraints on the location of P9 obtained with the INPOP19a planetary ephemeris

    Get PDF
Context. We used the new released INPOP19a planetary ephemerides benefiting from Jupiter-updated positions by the Juno mission and reanalyzed Cassini observations. Aims. We test possible locations of the unknown planet P9. To do this, we used the perturbations it produces on the orbits of the outer planets, more specifically, on the orbit of Saturn. Methods. Two statistical criteria were used to identify possible acceptable locations of P9 according to (i) the difference in planetary positions when P9 is included compared with the propagated covariance matrix, and (ii) the χ2 likelihood of postfit residuals for ephemerides when P9 is included. Results. No significant improvement of the residuals was found for any of the simulated locations, but we provide zones that induce a significant degradation of the ephemerides. Conclusions. Based on the INPOP19a planetary ephemerides, we demonstrate that if P9 exists, it cannot be closer than 500 AU with a 5 M⊕ and no closer than 650 AU with a 10 M⊕ . We also show that there is no clear zone that would indicate the positive existence of planet P9, but there are zones for which the existence of P9 is compatible with the 3σ accuracy of the INPOP planetary ephemerides

We give here a detailed description of the latest INPOP planetary ephemerides INPOP20a. We test the sensitivity of the Sun oblateness determination obtained with INPOP to different models for the Sun core rotation. We also present new evaluations of possible GRT violations with the PPN parameters ÎČ\beta,Îł\gamma and Ό˙/ÎŒ\dot{\mu}/\mu. With a new method for selecting acceptable alternative ephemerides we provide conservative limits of about 7.16×10−57.16 \times 10^{-5} and 7.49×10−57.49 \times 10^{-5} for ÎČ−1\beta-1 and γ−1\gamma-1 respectively using the present day planetary data samples. We also present simulations of Bepi-Colombo range tracking data and their impact on planetary ephemeris construction. We show that the use of future BC range observations should improve these estimates, in particular Îł\gamma. Finally, interesting perspectives for the detection of the Sun core rotation seem to be reachable thanks to the BC mission and its accurate range measurements in the GRT frame.Comment: Proceedings of the IAU Symposium 364 "Multi-scale dynamics of space objects

INPOP Planetary ephemerides and applications in the frame of the BepiColombo mission including new constraints on the graviton mass and dilaton parameters

We present here the new results obtained with the INPOP planetary ephemerides and BepiColombo radio-science simulations. We give new constraints for the classic General Relativity tests in terms of violation of the PPN parameters ÎČ\beta and Îł\gamma and the time variation of the gravitational constant G. We also present new limits for the mass of the graviton and finally we obtain new acceptable intervals for the dilaton parameters α0\alpha_{0}, αT\alpha_{T} and αG\alpha_{G}. Besides these tests of gravitation, we also study the possibility of detecting the Sun core rotation.Comment: arXiv admin note: substantial text overlap with arXiv:2111.0449

Simplified approach to the application of the geometric collective model

The predictions of the geometric collective model (GCM) for different sets of Hamiltonian parameter values are related by analytic scaling relations. For the quartic truncated form of the GCM -- which describes harmonic oscillator, rotor, deformed gamma-soft, and intermediate transitional structures -- these relations are applied to reduce the effective number of model parameters from four to two. Analytic estimates of the dependence of the model predictions upon these parameters are derived. Numerical predictions over the entire parameter space are compactly summarized in two-dimensional contour plots. The results considerably simplify the application of the GCM, allowing the parameters relevant to a given nucleus to be deduced essentially by inspection. A precomputed mesh of calculations covering this parameter space and an associated computer code for extracting observable values are made available through the Electronic Physics Auxiliary Publication Service. For illustration, the nucleus 102Pd is considered.Comment: RevTeX 4, 15 pages, to be published in Phys. Rev.

Influence of Filtering Techniques on Holographic Images

    Get PDF
Broadband Holography has become a powerful tool in computerized non-destructive testing. Interpretation of images, however, is difficult due to the fact that perfect imaging of flaw sizes is impossible until now. The situation is even more complex, since multiple scattering, wave mode conversions, and inhomogeneities in the material give rise to artifacts in the holographic image. Thus, signal and data processing techniques at different levels of the signal flow path may help improve the situation. Within this paper the following methods are discussed: (1) Inverse filtering. Inverse filters improve echo shape and duration. This in turn influences lateral and axial resolutions of the image. Since inverse filtering is known to be an ill posed problem we apply a standard Tychonoff regularization. It turns out to be equivalent to Wiener filtering in its simplest form.; (2) The ALOK i, k-filter. This is a non linear filter mainly used for data reduction purposes during the inspection of large scale components. An attempt is made to at least partly recover the original signal from ALOK data.; (3) Image processing. Using the holographic image of a natural crack we show different image processing techniques. This may be a tool to gain more insight into the flaw size and geometry under test

Endocardial role in arrhythmias induced by acute ventricular stretch and the involvement of Purkinje fibres, in isolated rat hearts

Purkinje fibres (PFs) play an important role in some ventricular arrhythmias and acute ventricular stretch can evoke mechanically-induced arrhythmias. We tested whether PFs and specifically TRPM4 channels, play a role in these mechanically-induced arrhythmias. Pseudo-ECGs and left ventricular (LV) activation, measured by optical mapping, were recorded in isolated, Langendorff-perfused, rat hearts. The LV endocardial surface was irrigated with experimental agents, via an indwelling catheter. The number and period of ectopic activations was measured during LV lumen inflation via an indwelling fluid-filled balloon (100 ÎŒL added over 2 s, maintained for 38 s). Mechanically-induced arrhythmias occurred during balloon inflation: they were multifocal, maximal in the first 5 s and ceased within 20 s. Optical mapping revealed activation patterns indicating PF-mediated and ectopic focal sources. Irrigation of the LV lumen with Lugol solution (IK/I2) for 10s reduced ectopics by 93% (n = 16, P < 0.001); with ablation of endocardial PFs confirmed by histology. Five min irrigation of the LV lumen with 50 ÎŒM 9-Phenanthrol, a blocker of TRPM4 channels, reduced ectopics by 39% (n = 15, P < 0.01). Immunohistochemistry confirmed that TRPM4 was more abundant in PFs than myocardium. Our results show that the endocardial surface plays an important role in these mechanically-induced ectopic activations. Ectopic activation patterns indicate a participation of PFs in these arrhythmias, with a potential involvement of TRPM4 channels, shown by the reduction of arrhythmias by 9-Phenanthrol

A New Method for Non-Invasive Estimation of Human Muscle Fiber Type Composition

    Get PDF
Background: It has been established that excellence in sports with short and long exercise duration requires a high proportion of fast-twitch (FT) or type-II fibers and slow-twitch (ST) or type-I fibers, respectively. Until today, the muscle biopsy method is still accepted as gold standard to measure muscle fiber type composition. Because of its invasive nature and high sampling variance, it would be useful to develop a non-invasive alternative.status: publishe
