This Internship Report is part of the formal implementation to complete the 2nd cycle of studies in order to obtain the master's degree in Sports Management at Faculdade de Desporto da Universidade do Porto. The internship lasted approximately six months, between October 2015 and April 2016, at Runporto.com. This Internship Report was expected to achieve useful experiences in Sport Management and development of technical and relational skills.Data collection to allow the characterization of Runporto.com, from its structural, functional, human and financial assumptions were the main goals. Furthermore, understand the culture of the organization and the opportunity to step in its planning, organization activities, recruiting people, depending on company needs. The structure of this report is systematized in three chapters: Conceptual Professional Practice, which is carried out by a review of the current state of knowledge; Characterization of Professional Practice, where the host institution is presented in order to contextualize the activities carried out; and Reflection Review and Prospects for the Future, which chapter is an analysis of the entire process of the internship. This internship enabled the possibility of development of technical skills in sporting events management, the development of personal skills and entering into the labour and corporate market

    Sintering and microstuctural characterization of W6+, Nb5+ and Ti4+ iron-substituted BiFeO3

    Get PDF
The sintering behaviour and the microstructural evolution of W6+, Nb5+ and Ti4+iron-substituted BiFeO3 ceramics have been analyzed. The obtained results show that W6+ and Nb5+ ions interact with the secondary phases usually present in these materials, thus altering the solid state formation of the BiFeO3 phase. In contrast, Ti4+ ions incorporate into the perovskite structure, leading to an exceptionally low proportion of secondary phases. In addition to this, BiFe0.95Ti0.05O3 materials present a dense microstructure with submicronic and nanostructured grains, clearly smaller than those in the undoped materials

Septoplasty with or without postoperative nasal packing? Prospective study

AbstractAnterior nasal packing is carried out in a number of nasal surgeries, especially in septoplasty. However, it is not an innocuous procedure and for this its benefit has been challenged.ObjectiveTo assess the need for anterior nasal packing and the quality of life of patients submitted to septoplasty.MethodPatients submitted to septoplasty with or without inferior turbinoplasty were randomized to receive or not anterior nasal packing postoperatively. We recorded and compared postoperative data (pain and bleeding). Quality of life was assessed before and after surgery. This is a randomized prospective study.ResultsWe had 73 patients (37 packed and 36 who did not receive a nasal packing) with a minimum follow-up of 3 months. Patients with nasal packing complained more of nasal pain and headache in the immediate postoperative period. Of these patients, 75.7% reported moderate/intense pain upon nasal packing removal. Bleeding was more frequent in those patients who did not receive a nasal packing, and only 1 patient required packing. All the patients enjoyed an improvement in quality of life.ConclusionSeptoplasty improves the quality of life of patients with septal deviation and nasal obstruction. Routine use of anterior nasal packing should be challenged for not presenting proven benefit

    Get PDF

Signal frequency distribution and natural-time analyses from acoustic emission monitoring of an arched structure in the Castle of Racconigi

The stability of an arch as a structural element in the thermal bath of King Charles Albert (Carlo Alberto) in the Royal Castle of Racconigi (on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1997) was assessed by the acoustic emission (AE) monitoring technique with application of classical inversion methods to recorded AE data. First, damage source location by means of triangulation techniques and signal frequency analysis were carried out. Then, the recently introduced method of natural-time analysis was preliminarily applied to the AE time series in order to reveal a possible entrance point to a critical state of the monitored structural element. Finally, possible influence of the local seismic and microseismic activity on the stability of the monitored structure was investigated. The criterion for selecting relevant earthquakes was based on the estimation of the size of earthquake preparation zones. The presented results suggest the use of the AE technique as a tool for detecting both ongoing structural damage processes and microseismic activity during preparation stages of seismic events
