A contemporary assessment of land condition in the Northern Gulf region of Queensland
A framework using assessments of soil condition, pasture composition and woodland density was applied to describe 14 grazing land types as being in A (100% of original carrying capacity), B (75%), C (45%) or D (20%) condition. We assessed the condition of 260 sites, principally along public and some station roads, to provide a benchmark for current land condition. Land types were also assigned relative grazing values between 10 (best) and 0, reflecting soil fertility and potential biomass production. The method identifies particular, 'at-risk' land types for priority investment of resources, while the rationale behind assessments might point to management interventions to improve the condition of those land types. Across all land types, 47% of sites were in A condition, 34% in B condition, 17% in C condition and only 2% in D condition. Seventy-five percent of land types with grazing values >5 were in A or B condition, compared with 88% for those with grazing values ?5. For Georgetown granites, only 27% of sites were in A or B condition, with values for other land types being: alluvials 59%, black soils 64% and red duplex soils 57%, suggesting that improving management of these land types is a priority issue. On land types with high grazing value, the major discounting factor was pasture composition (72% of sites discounted), while increasing woodland density was the main discount (73% of sites discounted) on low grazing value land types
Strange chiral nucleon form factors
We investigate the strange electric and magnetic form factors of the nucleon
in the framework of heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory to third order in
the chiral expansion. All counterterms can be fixed from data. In particular,
the two unknown singlet couplings can be deduced from the parity-violating
electron scattering experiments performed by the SAMPLE and the HAPPEX
collaborations. Within the given uncertainties, our analysis leads to a small
and positive electric strangeness radius, .

Applications of ecological niche modelling for mapping the risk of Rift Valley fever in Kenya
Rift Valley Fever (RVF) is a viral zoonotic disease of economic importance caused by a virus of the Phlebovirus genus, Bunyaviridae family. The disease occurs cyclically between 5 to 15 years which is associated with El Nino/Southern Oscillation weather phenomenon. Various studies have been done to map RVF distribution using a variety of approaches including the use of disease occurrence maps, statistical models which uses presence and absence data such as logistic regression method, etc. However, acquiring correct absence data is not easy and hence maps generated from standard statistical models might not be a true representation of the disease distribution. In this study Ecological Niche Modeling was used to determine the distribution of RVF in Kenya using GARP algorithm which uses presence-only data. Occurrence of RVF data were obtained by geo-referencing all the known hotspots in the country based on historical data acquired from the Directorate of Veterinary Services (DVS). The environmental variables that were used as the input data included: land use, soil type, elevation, vegetation index acquired from MODIS satellite spanning from October 2006 to March 2007, rainfall and temperature for the same period of time as the satellite imagery. Of the sampled data 70% was used to train the model while 30% to test the model. The result mapped the actual distribution of RVF in Kenya with an AUC of 0.82. A model evaluation was done using Partial ROC which had a 1.77 indicating that the model predicted well. The results will be used to improve the already existing maps and for better planning of mitigation measures. It will also be used together with socio-economic variables to evaluate vulnerability indices in all the divisions across the country
Hadronic freeze-out following a first order hadronization phase transition in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions
We analyze the hadronic freeze-out in ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions
at RHIC in a transport approach which combines hydrodynamics for the early,
dense, deconfined stage of the reaction with a microscopic non-equilibrium
model for the later hadronic stage at which the hydrodynamic equilibrium
assumptions are not valid. With this ansatz we are able to self-consistently
calculate the freeze-out of the system and determine space-time hypersurfaces
for individual hadron species. The space-time domains of the freeze-out for
several hadron species are found to be actually four-dimensional, and differ
drastically for the individual hadrons species. Freeze-out radii distributions
are similar in width for most hadron species, even though the Omega-baryon is
found to be emitted rather close to the phase boundary and shows the smallest
freeze-out radii and times among all baryon species. The total lifetime of the

Particlization in hybrid models
In hybrid models, which combine hydrodynamical and transport approaches to
describe different stages of heavy-ion collisions, conversion of fluid to
individual particles, particlization, is a non-trivial technical problem. We
describe in detail how to find the particlization hypersurface in a 3+1
dimensional model, and how to sample the particle distributions evaluated using
the Cooper-Frye procedure to create an ensemble of particles as an initial
state for the transport stage. We also discuss the role and magnitude of the

The nucleon's strange electromagnetic and scalar matrix elements
Quenched lattice QCD simulations and quenched chiral perturbation theory are
used together for this study of strangeness in the nucleon. Dependences of the
matrix elements on strange quark mass, valence quark mass and momentum transfer
are discussed in both the lattice and chiral frameworks. The combined results
of this study are in good agreement with existing experimental data and
predictions are made for upcoming experiments. Possible future refinements of

Balance on the Brain: a randomised controlled trial evaluating the effect of a multimodal exercise programme on physical performance, falls, quality of life and cognition for people with mild cognitive impairment—study protocol
Introduction: Exercise and physical activity have been shown to improve cognition for people living with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). There is strong evidence for the benefits of aerobic exercise and medium evidence for participating in regular strength training for people with MCI. However, people living with MCI fall two times as often as those without cognitive impairment and the evidence is currently unknown as to whether balance training for people with MCI is beneficial, as has been demonstrated for older people without cognitive impairment. The aim of this study is to determine whether a balance-focused multimodal exercise intervention improves balance and reduces falls for people with MCI, compared with a control group receiving usual care.
Methods and analysis: This single blind randomised controlled trial (Balance on the Brain) will be offered to 396 people with MCI living in the community. The multimodal exercise intervention consists of two balance programmes and a walking programme to be delivered by physiotherapists over a 6-month intervention period. All participants will be followed up over 12 months (for the intervention group, this involves 6-month intervention and 6-month maintenance). The primary outcomes are (1) balance performance and (2) rate of falls. Physical performance, levels of physical activity and sedentary behaviour, quality of life and cognition are secondary outcomes. A health economic analysis will be undertaken to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of the intervention compared with usual care.
Ethics and dissemination: Ethics approval has been received from the South Metropolitan Health Service Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC), Curtin University HREC and the Western Australia Department of Health HREC; and approval has been received to obtain data for health costings from Services Australia. The Two-Nucleon Potential from Chiral Lagrangians
Chiral symmetry is consistently implemented in the two-nucleon problem at
low-energy through the general effective chiral lagrangian. The potential is
obtained up to a certain order in chiral perturbation theory both in momentum
and coordinate space. Results of a fit to scattering phase shifts and bound
state data are presented, where satisfactory agreement is found for laboratory

Sagittarius II, Draco II and Laevens 3: Three New Milky Way Satellites Discovered in the Pan-STARRS 1 3 Survey
We present the discovery of three new Milky Way satellites from our search for compact stellar overdensities in the photometric catalog of the Panoramic Survey Telescope and Rapid Response System 1 (Pan-STARRS 1, or PS1) 3π survey. The first satellite, Laevens 3, is located at a heliocentric distance of d = 67 ± 3 kpc. With a total magnitude of MV = −4.4 ± 0.3 and a half-light radius of rh = 7 ± 2 pc, its properties resemble those of outer halo globular clusters. The second system, Draco II/Laevens 4, is a closer and fainter satellite (d ~ 20 kpc, MV = −2.9 ± 0.8), whose uncertain size () renders its classification difficult without kinematic information; it could either be a faint and extended globular cluster or a faint and compact dwarf galaxy. The third satellite, Sagittarius II/Laevens 5 (Sgr II), has an ambiguous nature, as it is either the most compact dwarf galaxy or the most extended globular cluster in its luminosity range ( and MV = −5.2 ± 0.4). At a heliocentric distance of 67 ± 5 kpc, this satellite lies intriguingly close to the expected location of the trailing arm of the Sagittarius stellar stream behind the Sagittarius dwarf spheroidal galaxy (Sgr dSph). If confirmed through spectroscopic follow up, this connection would locate this part of the trailing arm of the Sagittarius stellar stream that has so far gone undetected. It would further suggest that Sgr II was brought into the Milky Way halo as a satellite of the Sgr dSph
