    (1) Background: Dating violence (DV) among adolescents constitutes a serious problem, not only because of the magnitude of the phenomenon, but also because of the seriousness of the personal and social consequences derived from it. The objectives of this study were the following: to analyze the prevalence of DV among adolescents in residential care and in schools, according to sex, age and origin, and to analyze the prevalence of the types of violence and victimization, according to the residential care resource and the school. (2) Methods: The sample consisted of adolescents in residential care in the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country (Spain) (n = 271) and adolescents in schools (n = 268) aged between 12 and 17 years. (3) Results: The results showed a higher prevalence of DV in adolescents in residential care than that found in other studies with a normative sample. (4) Conclusions: These results support the need for work and research with these minors in residential care. It also gives an important weight to sociodemographic variables, such as age and sex, and also to the types of violence and victimization, i.e., variables to be taken into account in the intervention with adolescents. Future educational programs should consider DV prevention and children in residential care. This research was funded by a predoctoral grant from the University of the Basque Country-PIF16/257

Cultural Image of Older People during the COVID-19 Pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic has made evident the exclusion to which older people may be subjected for reasons of age. This study delves into the cultural image of older adults during the pandemic from the perspective of people between 60 and 81 years of age. Through a qualitative methodology, the voices of 37 people have been collected through in-depth interviews. Two main themes are derived from the inductive analysis: on the one hand, the devaluation of older people, and on the other hand, the positive image of the older population as older and valid. We conclude that people over 60 years of age in the Basque Country denounce the stigma of low capacity attributed to the older population during the pandemic. They reject the signs of age-based overprotection manifested during the pandemic and highlight the vital experience by which older people could be considered referents in situations of social crisis. They reflect on the initiatives necessary to improve the cultural image of the older population and point out the opportunities for active ageing, education based on values and intergenerational relationships

Objectives: (1) To determine the perception of Compassion Satisfaction and Fatigue of oncology nursing staff; (2) to study the correlation between Compassion Satisfaction and Fatigue and sociodemographic, professional and adaptive variables (resilience, attitudes toward death, personality); and (3) to identify predictors of the two dimensions. Method: Descriptive, correlational, cross-sectional study. 69 nurses (62.7%) and 41 auxiliary care technicians (37.3%) from the Oncology Services in Biscay (Basque Health Service) completed the ProQOL-V, CD-RISC-10, DAP-R, and NEO-FFI-3. Data were collected between September 2018 and March 2019. The statistical analysis with SPSS.22 included chi-square tests, comparison of means, Pearson麓s correlation, and multivariate logistic regression. Results: 66.4% (n=73) showed high Compassion Satisfaction, and 41.8% (n=46) were at moderate levels of Compassion Fatigue. People with prior studies related to death and/or grief were more satisfied. Compassion Satisfaction had stronger correlations with resilience and extroversion, and Compassion Fatigue did so with neuroticism and resilience. Four predictor variables emerged for Compassion Satisfaction: age, prior learning, resilience, and agreeableness; and four for Compassion Fatigue: attitudes of avoidance and escape concerning death, neuroticism, and openness. Conclusions: The high relationship found between training and resilience with Compassion Satisfaction can serve as a guide for academic and health care institutions to orient training, preventive and interventional strategies to provide oncology nursing teams with resources that allow them to optimize their care role.

    Perceived Parenting And Adolescents' Adjustment

    Get PDF
Adolescence is an important developmental period that is characterised by heightened problems of adjustment. The aim of this study is to analyse adolescents' adjustment, and to explore the typologies and dimensions of parenting, and thus to determine the relationships between these factors. The sample comprised 1285 adolescent students aged 12 to 16 from the Basque Country (Spain). The students filled out the self-report of the Behavior Assessment System for Children (BASC) and the Parental Acceptance-Rejection/Control Questionnaire, (PARQ/Control). Differences by age were found in the adolescents' school maladjustment and parenting style perception. Moreover, perceptions of little parental warmth were related to higher levels of clinical and school maladjustment, and the lower the parental control, the greater the clinical maladjustment. Finally, the results obtained revealed that the interaction between the mothers' and fathers' parenting styles was significant only for clinical maladjustment; those students with neglectful mothers and authoritative fathers presented the highest level of clinical maladjustment, followed by other combinations of neglectful mothers. Furthermore, the students from neglectful and authoritarian families presented the highest levels of school maladjustment, without differences between neglectful and authoritarian or between indulgent and authoritative families.Research Project was sponsored by the University of the Basque Country (Spain), with grant number EHU 11/16 and PPG17/31

There is still a need to conduct scientific research to improve the psychosocial and pathological characteristics understanding of adolescent students with motor disabilities. This research aims to estimate the factors of sex, age, severity, and cause of physical disability prevalence concerning the psychosocial characteristics of adolescents with a motor deficiency in Manab铆 in Ecuador. The sample is integrated for 100 students reporting ages between 11 to 19 years old, female and male, all diagnosed with varying degrees of motor disability. During the 2018-2020 period, measurement instruments were administered that made it possible to determine that female participants perform more self-control behaviors but have more social anxiety than males. They have higher perceptions of emotional support, love, and affection. They reported more significant participation in victimization, aggression, and aggressive victimization. The group between 16 and 18 showed a more remarkable level of perseverance, and the group between 11 and 13 presented a higher level of victimization. It concluded that the participants with severe motor disabilities reported higher self-esteem levels, and those with mild disabilities presented more somatization and anxiety in the face of daily events on campus.
