MOND as the weak-field limit of an extended metric theory of gravity
We show that the Modified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND) regime can be fully
recovered as the weak-field limit of a particular theory of gravity formulated
in the metric approach. This is possible when Milgrom's acceleration constant
is taken as a fundamental quantity which couples to the theory in a very
consistent manner. As a consequence, the scale invariance of the gravitational
interaction is naturally broken. In this sense, Newtonian gravity is the
weak-field limit of general relativity and MOND is the weak-field limit of that

MOND's acceleration scale as a fundamental quantity
Some quantum-cosmic scaling relations indicate that the MOND acceleration
parameter a_0 could be a fundamental quantity ruling the self-gravitating
structures, ranging from stars and globular clusters up to superclusters of
galaxies and the whole observed universe. We discuss such coincidence relations
starting from the Dirac quantization condition ruling the masses of primordial

Access to diagnosis and treatment of Chagas disease/infection in endemic and non-endemic countries in the XXI century.
In this article, Médicos Sin Fronteras (MSF) Spain faces the challenge of selecting, piecing together, and conveying in the clearest possible way, the main lessons learnt over the course of the last seven years in the world of medical care for Chagas disease. More than two thousand children under the age of 14 have been treated; the majority of whom come from rural Latin American areas with difficult access. It is based on these lessons learnt, through mistakes and successes, that MSF advocates that medical care for patients with Chagas disease be a reality, in a manner which is inclusive (not exclusive), integrated (with medical, psychological, social, and educational components), and in which the patient is actively followed. This must be a multi-disease approach with permanent quality controls in place based on primary health care (PHC). Rapid diagnostic tests and new medications should be available, as well as therapeutic plans and patient management (including side effects) with standardised flows for medical care for patients within PHC in relation to secondary and tertiary level, inclusive of epidemiological surveillance systems
Phase II of the ASCE Benchmark Study on SHM
The task group on structural health monitoring of the Dynamic Committee of ASCE was formed in
1999 at the 12
th
Engineering Mechanics Conference. The task group has designed a number of analytical
studies on a benchmark structure and there are plans to follow these with an experimental program. The
first phase of the analytical studies was completed in 2001. The second phase, initiated in the summer of
2001, was formulated in the light of the experience gained on phase I and focuses on increasing realism in
the simulation of the discrepancies between the actual structure and the mathematical model used in the
analysis. This paper describes the rational that lead the SHM task group to the definition of phase II and
presents the details of the cases that are being considered
Gravitational Lensing in the metric theory proposed by Sobouti
Recently, Y. Sobouti (2007) has provided a metric theory f(R) that can
account for certain dynamical anomalies observed in spiral galaxies. Mendoza &
Rosas-Guevara (2007) have shown that in this theory there is an extra-bending
as compared to standard general relativity. In the present work we have
developed in more specific detail this additional lensing effect and we have
made evaluations of the alpha parameter used in the model adjusting the theory
to observations in X-rays of 13 clusters of galaxies with gravitational lensing

Estructura factorial y consistencia interna de la Escala de Severidad de Fatiga en población colombiana con enfermedades crónicas
El presente estudio de corte psicométrico, tuvo como objetivo analizar la estructura factorial y la
consistencia interna versión en español del cuestionario Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS) en población
colombiana de enfermos crónicos. Para ello se aplicó el cuestionario a 52 enfermos crónicos de la
ciudad de Villavicencio. El análisis factorial denota tres factores: el factor 1 denominado como
afectación física, el factor 2 denominado afectación social y finalmente el factor 3 denominado
afectación motivacional de la fatiga, que explican el 76,324% de la varianza total acumulada, y un alfa
de Cronbach de 870. Los resultados muestran una alta confiabilidad y concordancia en la estructura
factorial con la versión original, lo que implica adecuada validez de la prueba en población colombiana
de enfermos crónicos.The present study has a psychometric design, with the objective of analyzing the factorial structure and the internal consistency for the Spanish version of the Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS) Questionnaire for Colombian population with chronic disease. Was applied the questionnaire to 52 people with chronic disease in Villavicencio city. The factorial Analysis indicates three factors: Factor 1 named physical affectation, Factor 2 named social affectation and Factor 3 named motivational affectation of the fatigue, where they explain the 76.324% of the total cumulative variance with .870 of Cronbach's Alpha. The results present a high reliability and concordance for the factorial structure with the original version which indicates an adequate validity of the test for Colombian population with chronic disease. © Servicio de Publicaciones - Universidad de Murcia
