Space charge and dielectric response measurements to assess insulation aging of low-voltage cables used in nuclear power plants

    Get PDF
The current design life of nuclear power plant (NPP) could potentially be extended to 80 years. During this extended plant life, all safety and operationally relevant Instrumentation & Control (I&C) systems are required to meet their designed performance requirements to ensure safe and reliable operation of the NPP, both during normal operation and subsequent to design base events. This in turn requires an adequate and documented qualification and aging management program. It is known that electrical insulation of I&C cables used in safety related circuits can degrade during their life, due to the aging effect of environmental stresses, such as temperature, radiation, vibration, etc., particularly if located in the containment area of the NPP. Thus several condition monitoring techniques are required to assess the state of the insulation. Such techniques can be used to establish a residual lifetime, based on the relationship between condition indicators and ageing stresses, hence, to support a preventive and effective maintenance program. The object of this thesis is to investigate potential electrical aging indicators (diagnostic markers) testing various I&C cable insulations subjected to an accelerated multi-stress (thermal and radiation) aging

Multi-rotor aircraft flying qualities assessment by means of inverse simulation

    Get PDF
This thesis work wants to investigate in how complex the mathematical model of a multi-rotor drone has to be, in order to simulate three different flight conditions: impulsive responses, vertical and horizontal flight. This is done by exploiting a technique called inverse simulation. Also the two autopilot used to control the model has been designed to be as close as possible to the real one. The results obtained with Simulink are then compared with the telemetry data collected during the real flight by the Pixhawk flight controller

Design for Cultural Heritage at the University of Ferrara

Alongside Teaching and Research, Italian universities are also committed to Public Engagement activities featuring teaching and cultural initiatives for a non-academic audience. At the University of Ferrara, this commitment was translated into an exhibition in April 2019, originating from a virtuous union of cultural heritage and teaching activities. The creation of the “Natura Naturata” exhibition involved the synthesis of taught courses and research by the University of Ferrara's Industrial Product Design students together with their teachers, in collaboration with librarians. In the Product Design 2 Workshop, students develop exhibition projects, starting from the curatorial concept, through the construction, up to the graphic-communicative aspects and the creation of information and teaching tools. The exhibition was created based on the study of rules used to properly protect library assets so that students could gain specific skills for the preparation of bibliographic exhibitions. It took shape in the Chemistry and Life Sciences Library Santa Maria delle Grazie to emphasize the importance of the University's tangible and intangible cultural heritage with the intention of conveying the 'world' of library collections – and also the University's historical and architectural heritage - to students, scholars, and citizens.Bernabè, A.; Contarini, M.; Manfra, M.; Turrini, D. Biblioteche accademiche in rete per la terza missione? Valorizzazione, inclusione e nuove opportunitĂ  strategiche

In recent years, Italian academic libraries have undertaken third mission activities linked to the enhancement of their heritage: library science scholars have already been studying this kind of initiatives, and today the Italian national agency for the evaluation of universities and research institutes (Anvur) considers such actions as a result of the institutional commitment of a university library. A workshop, organized by the Library System of the University of Ferrara together with the Italian library association during the Stelline congress 2022 (Milan, 11 march), analyzed the case study of the bibliotour Storie di libri e palazzi, set up by the University of Ferrara; the workshop also explored new strategic opportunities for the enhancement of academic libraries’ heritage, firstly the inclusion of all audiences, with specific reference to Goal 10 (“Reduce inequalities”) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda. Furthermore, this perspective embraces potentially the entire corpus of recommendations provided by the Agenda. The paper is intended not only to report the main ideas that emerged during the workshop held in Milan but, starting from them, also to suggest building a network of academic libraries, in order to facilitate the communication of third mission initiatives and their public outreach. Therefore, full adherence to the inclusive dimension and the commitment to sustainable development are two new strategic opportunities for academic library activities related to heritage enhancement. AIB has been supporting both strategies for several years, by means of concrete actions, such as the “Maria A. Abenante” Award, as well as organizational structures, like the Observatory on library and sustainable development (Obiss).

    No full text
Mobile traffic forecasting is a relatively new research area, which is becoming of fundamental importance for next-generation networks. Proactively knowing the user demand allows the system to allocate resources and apply energy-saving decisions properly. Classical models are limited by the stationary assumption of time sequences and fail to take correlations into account. This work presents results on cellular network traffic analysis and prediction, providing a novel, robust, and precise machine learning model to efficiently and dynamically manage network resources in 5G systems
