    Observation of a Tricyclic[4.1.0.0 2,4]heptane During a Michael Addition-Ring Closure Reaction and a Computational Study on Its Mechanism of Formation

    We describe the formation of a bis-cyclopropane product, a tricyclic[4.1.0.02,4]heptane, that is formed during a Johnson-Corey-Chaykovsky reaction on a cyclopentenone. Two (of four possible) bicyclic products are selectively formed by addition of a COOEt-stabilized sulfur ylide onto the Michael acceptor. The tricyclic product is formed subsequently via a retro Michael elimination of a hindered ether followed by addition of a further cyclopropyl moiety, affecting only one of the two bicyclic products initially formed. The experimental reaction outcome was rationalized using density functional theory (DFT), investigating the different Michael-addition approaches of the sulfur ylide, the transition state (TS) energies for the formation of possible zwitterionic intermediates and subsequent reactions that give rise to cyclopropanation. Selective formation of only two of the four possible products occurs due to the epimerization of unreactive intermediates from the other two pathways, as revealed by energy barrier calculations. The formation of the tricyclic product was rationalized by evaluation of energy barriers for proton abstraction required to form the intermediate undergoing the second cyclopropanation. The selectivity-guiding factors discussed for the single and double cyclopropanation of this functionalized Michael-acceptor will be useful guidelines for the synthesis of future singly and doubly cyclopropanated compounds

    Evolving rules for document classification

    We describe a novel method for using Genetic Programming to create compact classification rules based on combinations of N-Grams (character strings). Genetic programs acquire fitness by producing rules that are effective classifiers in terms of precision and recall when evaluated against a set of training documents. We describe a set of functions and terminals and provide results from a classification task using the Reuters 21578 dataset. We also suggest that because the induced rules are meaningful to a human analyst they may have a number of other uses beyond classification and provide a basis for text mining applications

    Fermionic partner of Quintessence field as candidate for dark matter

    Quintessence is a possible candidate for dark energy. In this paper we study the phenomenologies of the fermionic partner of Quintessence, the Quintessino. Our results show that, for suitable choices of the model parameters, the Quintessino is a good candidate for cold or warm dark matter.     Back reaction in the formation of a straight cosmic string

    A simple model for the formation of a straight cosmic string, wiggly or unperturbed is considered. The gravitational field of such string is computed in the linear approximation. The vacuum expectation value of the stress tensor of a massless scalar quantum field coupled to the string gravitational field is computed to the one loop order. Finally, the back-reaction effect on the gravitational field of the string is obtained by solving perturbatively the semiclassical Einstein's equations.Comment: 29 pages, LaTeX, no figures.     Observational Constraints of Modified Chaplygin Gas in Loop Quantum Cosmology

    We have considered the FRW universe in loop quantum cosmology (LQC) model filled with the dark matter (perfect fluid with negligible pressure) and the modified Chaplygin gas (MCG) type dark energy. We present the Hubble parameter in terms of the observable parameters Ωm0\Omega_{m0}, Ωx0\Omega_{x0} and H0H_{0} with the redshift zz and the other parameters like AA, BB, CC and α\alpha. From Stern data set (12 points), we have obtained the bounds of the arbitrary parameters by minimizing the χ2\chi^{2} test. The best-fit values of the parameters are obtained by 66%, 90% and 99% confidence levels. Next due to joint analysis with BAO and CMB observations, we have also obtained the bounds of the parameters (B,CB,C) by fixing some other parameters α\alpha and AA. From the best fit of distance modulus μ(z)\mu(z) for our theoretical MCG model in LQC, we concluded that our model is in agreement with the union2 sample data.Comment: 14 pages, 10 figures, Accepted in EPJC. arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:astro-ph/0311622 by other author

    The SARAO MeerKAT 1.3 GHz Galactic Plane Survey

    We present the SARAO MeerKAT Galactic Plane Survey (SMGPS), a 1.3 GHz continuum survey of almost half of the Galactic Plane (251○ ≤l ≤ 358○ and 2○ ≤l ≤ 61○ at |b| ≤ 1 5). SMGPS is the largest, most sensitive and highest angular resolution 1 GHz survey of the Plane yet carried out, with an angular resolution of 8″ and a broadband RMS sensitivity of ∼10–20 μJy beam−1. Here we describe the first publicly available data release from SMGPS which comprises data cubes of frequency-resolved images over 908–1656 MHz, power law fits to the images, and broadband zeroth moment integrated intensity images. A thorough assessment of the data quality and guidance for future usage of the data products are given. Finally, we discuss the tremendous potential of SMGPS by showcasing highlights of the Galactic and extragalactic science that it permits. These highlights include the discovery of a new population of non-thermal radio filaments; identification of new candidate supernova remnants, pulsar wind nebulae and planetary nebulae; improved radio/mid-IR classification of rare Luminous Blue Variables and discovery of associated extended radio nebulae; new radio stars identified by Bayesian cross-matching techniques; the realisation that many of the largest radio-quiet WISE H II region candidates are not true H II regions; and a large sample of previously undiscovered background H I galaxies in the Zone of Avoidance
