Pair Creation of Dilaton Black Holes in Extended Inflation
Dilatonic Charged Nariai instantons mediate the nucleation of black hole
pairs during extended chaotic inflation. Depending on the dilaton and inflaton
fields, the black holes are described by one of two approximations in the
Lorentzian regime. For each case we find Euclidean solutions that satisfy the
no boundary proposal. The complex initial values of the dilaton and inflaton
are determined, and the pair creation rate is calculated from the Euclidean
action. Similar to standard inflation, black holes are abundantly produced near
the Planck boundary, but highly suppressed later on. An unusual feature we find
is that the earlier in inflation that the dilatonic black holes are created,
the more highly charged they can be.Comment: 23 pages, LaTeX, 6 figures; submitted to Phys. Rev.
Analysis of a chemo-repulsion model with nonlinear production: The continuous problem and unconditionally energy stable fully discrete schemes
We consider the following repulsive-productive chemotaxis model: Let , find , the cell density, and , the chemical
concentration, satisfying \begin{equation}\label{C5:Am} \left\{ \begin{array}
[c]{lll} \partial_t u - \Delta u - \nabla\cdot (u\nabla v)=0 \ \ \mbox{in}\
\Omega,\ t>0,\\ \partial_t v - \Delta v + v = u^p \ \ \mbox{in}\ \Omega,\ t>0,
\end{array} \right. \end{equation} in a bounded domain , . By using a regularization technique, we prove the
existence of solutions of this problem. Moreover, we propose three fully
discrete Finite Element (FE) nonlinear approximations, where the first one is
defined in the variables , and the second and third ones by introducing
as an auxiliary variable. We prove some
unconditional properties such as mass-conservation, energy-stability and
solvability of the schemes. Finally, we compare the behavior of the schemes
throughout several numerical simulations and give some conclusions.Comment: arXiv admin note: substantial text overlap with arXiv:1807.0111
Measuring the transition to homogeneity with photometric redshift surveys
We study the possibility of detecting the transition to homogeneity using
photometric redshift catalogs. Our method is based on measuring the fractality
of the projected galaxy distribution, using angular distances, and relies only
on observable quantites. It thus provides a way to test the Cosmological
Principle in a model-independent unbiased way. We have tested our method on
different synthetic inhomogeneous catalogs, and shown that it is capable of
discriminating some fractal models with relatively large fractal dimensions, in
spite of the loss of information due to the radial projection. We have also
studied the influence of the redshift bin width, photometric redshift errors,
bias, non-linear clustering, and surveyed area, on the angular homogeneity
index H2 ({\theta}) in a {\Lambda}CDM cosmology. The level to which an upcoming
galaxy survey will be able to constrain the transition to homogeneity will
depend mainly on the total surveyed area and the compactness of the surveyed
region. In particular, a Dark Energy Survey (DES)-like survey should be able to
easily discriminate certain fractal models with fractal dimensions as large as
D2 = 2.95. We believe that this method will have relevant applications for
upcoming large photometric redshift surveys, such as DES or the Large Synoptic
Survey Telescope (LSST).Comment: 14 pages, 14 figure
Fluorescence and Hybrid Detection Aperture of the Pierre Auger Observatory
The aperture of the Fluorescence Detector (FD) of the Pierre Auger
Observatory is evaluated from simulated events using different detector
configurations: mono, stereo, 3-FD and 4-FD. The trigger efficiency has been
modeled using shower profiles with ground impacts in the field of view of a
single telescope and studying the trigger response (at the different levels) by
that telescope and by its neighbours. In addition, analysis cuts imposed by
event reconstruction have been applied. The hybrid aperture is then derived for
the Auger final extension. Taking into account the actual Surface Detector (SD)
array configuration and its trigger response, the aperture is also calculated
for a typical configuration of the present phase.Comment: contribution to the 29th International Cosmic Ray Conference, Pune,

Transformations due to mylonitization processes in granitic rocks
En cuanto a los elementos traza, tan sólo Rb y Sr muestran un ligero empobrecimiento en la zona milonítica.[Abstract] The aim of this paper is the determination of the textural and mineralogical transformations introduced in late-Hercynian granitic rocks which have undergone mylonitization processes in the Eastern Sierra de Gredos (Spanish Central System). It also is intended to determine the influence of such changes on the chemical composition of the mylonitic rocks. The progressive increasing of strain causes a series of textural transformations in the originally porphyritic, coarse-grained granitoids leading to formation of porphyroclastic mylonitic rocks with development of planelinear fabrics at the core of the fracture zone. From a mineralogical point of view, transformation~ consist in entire crushing and degradation of biotite, which converts into very fine-grained chlorite disseminated within the mylonitic matrix. Likewise, K-feldspar and albite remobilizations and low grade (greenschists facies) metamorphic readjustments can be observed. The accompanying compositional changes are Si02, CaO and Na20 enrichment and K20 and P20S impoverishment towards the zone of maximum mylonitization. Concerning the trace elements, only Rb and Sr show a weak impoverishment within the mylonitic zone
Solutions of gauge invariant cosmological perturbations in long-wavelength limit
We investigate gauge invariant cosmological perturbations in a spatially flat
Friedman-Robertson-Walker universe with scalar fields. It is well known that
the evolution equation for the gauge invariant quantities has exact solutions
in the long-wavelength limit. We find that these gauge invariant solutions can
be obtained by differentiating the background solution with respect to
parameters contained in the background system. This method is very useful when
we analyze the long-wavelength behavior of cosmological perturbation with
multiple scalar fields.Comment: 17 pages, will appear in Classical and Quantum Gravit
Metric perturbations in two-field inflation
We study the metric perturbations produced during inflation in models with
two scalar fields evolving simultaneously. In particular, we emphasize how the
large-scale curvature perturbation on fixed energy density
hypersurfaces may not be conserved in general for multiple field inflation due
to the presence of entropy as well as adiabatic fluctuations. We show that the
usual method of solving the linearized perturbation equations is equivalent to
the recently proposed analysis of Sasaki and Stewart in terms of the perturbed
expansion along neighboring trajectories in field-space. In the case of a
separable potential it is possible to compute in the slow-roll approximation
the spectrum of density perturbations and gravitational waves at the end of
inflation. In general there is an inequality between the ratio of tensor to
scalar perturbations and the tilt of the gravitational wave spectrum, which
becomes an equality when only adiabatic perturbations are possible and
is conserved.Comment: RevTex, 9 pages, 1 uuencoded figure appended, also available on WWW

Complete power spectrum for an induced gravity open inflation model
We study the phenomenological constraints on a recently proposed model of
open inflation in the context of induced gravity. The main interest of this
model is the relatively small number of parameters, which may be constrained by
many different types of observation. We evaluate the complete spectrum of
density perturbations, which contains continuum sub-curvature modes, a discrete
super curvature mode, and a mode associated with fluctuations in the bubble
wall. From these, we compute the angular power spectrum of temperature
fluctuations in the microwave background, and derive bounds on the parameters
of the model so that the predicted spectrum is compatible with the observed
anisotropy of the microwave background and with large-scale structure
observations. We analyze the matter era and the approach of the model to
general relativity. The model passes all existing constraints.Comment: 12 pages RevTeX file with four figures incorporated (uses RevTeX and

Chern-Simons production during preheating in hybrid inflation models
We study the onset of symmetry breaking after hybrid inflation in a model
having the field content of the SU(2) gauge-scalar sector of the standard
model, coupled to a singlet inflaton. This process is studied in
(3+1)-dimensions in a fully non-perturbative way with the help of lattice
techniques within the classical approximation. We focus on the role played by
gauge fields and, in particular, on the generation of Chern-Simons number. Our
results are shown to be insensitive to the various cut-offs introduced in our
numerical approach. The spectra preserves a large hierarchy between long and
short-wavelength modes during the whole period of symmetry breaking and
Chern-Simons generation, confirming that the dynamics is driven by the low
momentum sector of the theory. We establish that the Chern-Simons production
mechanism is associated with local sphaleron-like structures. The corresponding
sphaleron rates are of order 10^{-5} m^4, which, within certain scenarios of
electroweak baryogenesis and a (not unnaturally large) additional source of CP
violation, could explain the present baryon asymmetry of the universe.Comment: 28 pages, 15 figures, ReVTeX. With minor corrections, version to
