Kim Stanley Robinson A Jövő Minisztériuma (The Ministry for the Future) című regénye 2020-ban jelent meg. A mű a szerző korábbi, New York 2140 című tudományos-fantasztikus disztópiá­jának továbbgondolása és egyben konceptuális folytatása. Míg azonban a New York-regény figyelme a kapitalizmus vég nélküli növekedésében érdekelt és ennek következtében fenntarthatatlan működésmódjára irányul, addig A Jövő Minisztériuma immár az externáliák folytán jelentkező klímaváltozásra, továbbá annak a társadalmakra, illetve az egyénekre gyakorolt hatásaira összpontosít. A tanulmány a tőkés rendszerrel, a tömegtermeléssel és -fogyasztással kapcsolatos kritikai attitűd kialakításának, illetve felerősítésének fontosságát hangsúlyozza, miközben rámutat a regényben jelentkező technooptimista vonatkozásokra. A klímaváltozás regénybeli megjelenését tágabb interdiszciplináris, az éghajlatváltozásra irányuló természet­tudományos-empirikus diskurzus összefüggésében tárgyalja

Time constraints in digital data storage (Alastair Reynolds: Slow Bullets)

Knowledge, cultural and personal memory is increasingly being associated with digitally stored data. The formation and self-representation of individual identity is similarly happening in a largely computational environment, including social media sites and online social networks. Accordingly, we are presented with profane eschatological promises linked to technological advancement, such as immortality in this world and an eternal conscience, but encompassing all those optimistic interpretations of the digital revolution that concentrate only on the positive aspects. Alastair Reynolds’s 2015 science-fiction novel, Slow Bullets, aims to raise awareness of the time constrains and potential vulnerabilities of digital data storage and transfer. The narrative is reduced to the enclosed space of a single spaceship, thus subjecting the outside world (both as an interconnected ecological system and as the “universe of data”) to the danger of total annihilation. Among others, Reynolds’s novel stresses the importance of implementing and reinforcing a mindset where media may be used and criticised thoughtfully and deliberately

Effect of genotypic, meteorological and agronomic factors on the gluten index of winter durum wheat

The determination of the gluten index is a widely used method for analysing the gluten strength of bread wheat and spring durum wheat genotypes. The present work was carried out to study the effect of the genotype, meteorological factors (temperature, precipitation and number of days with Tmax ≥ 30 °C) and agronomic treatments (N fertilisation and plant protection) on the gluten index of winter durum wheat varieties and breeding lines. The results indicated that the gluten index had little dependence on the environment, being determined to the greatest extent by the genotype. Compared with varieties having weak gluten, those with a strong gluten matrix responded less sensitively to changes in environmental conditions. Among the meteorological factors, high temperature at the end of the grain-filling period caused the greatest reduction in the mean gluten index of three varieties (R 2 = 0.462), while the fertiliser was found to be a significant factor affecting the gluten strength of winter durum wheat varieties. Using selection based on the gluten index, the gluten strength of winter durum wheat lines can be improved sufficiently to make them competitive with high quality spring varieties

Az értekezés a másodlagos szóbeliség és a digitális írásbeliség irodalmi vonatkozásait vizsgálja egy meghatározott, reprezentatív szövegkorpuszon belül. A hallhatóság és a láthatóság poétikáját a tárgyalt kommunikációtechnológia-történeti korszak keretében a tematizáció és a kompozicionális elemek szintjén határozza meg. A hallhatóság poétikáját a beszédhangoknak, az élőbeszédnek és az egyéb hanghatásoknak a tárolása és továbbítása hatja át az irodalmi ábrázolás különböző színterein. Ellenben a láthatóság poétikáját az írásbeli kommunikáció hangtalanná válása jellemzi. A disszertáció a másodlagos szóbeliség Walter J. Ong által kidolgozott elméletének továbbgondolására is kísérletet tesz, a benne foglalt, ellentétpárba rendeződő kategóriák (szóbeliség–írásbeliség, hallhatóság–láthatóság) dinamizálása révén. Ennek érdekében szorosan olvassa a másodlagos oralitás koncepciójának 2005-ös, Maurizio Ferraris-i kritikáját. Az értekezés konkrét szövegelemzései a jelentésképződés temporális folyamatát követik
