    Comparison the Pain Relief of Amitriptyline Mouthwash with Benzydamine in Oral Mucositis

    Statement of the Problem: A significant proportion of patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy suffer from mucositis. The first symptom of oral mucositis is pain. Severe pain, burning sensation, and discomfort in the oral cavity make it difficult to continue treatment and even continue living in these patients. Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the effect of amitriptyline mouthwash (in two forms of simple and niosomal) as a local anesthetic agent with benzydamine HCl mouthwash in oral mucositis after radiotherapy or chemotherapy. Materials and Method: This double-blind study was performed on 60 patients with oral mucositis caused by radiotherapy and chemotherapy. The severity of mucositis was determined based on patient judgment; then dental examination was performed and recorded in a checklist. Three groups were assigned based on using either benzydamine HCL, amitriptyline, or niosomal form of amitriptyline. Pain and burning sensation were evaluated with VAS at different time intervals: before use and one, five, ten, and thirty minutes and one hour after using mouthwash. T-test was used to compare the intensity of pain between the two groups. ANOVA and Tukey test were used to compare the intensity of pain between groups. Results: Statistical analyses showed the maximum reduction in pain intensity at two different time intervals (p= 0.04). Ten minutes after the use of niosomal form of amitriptyline, a 95% decrease in pain was observed. A 99% reduction in pain occurred after the use of simple form of amitriptyline (p= 0.04). Conclusion: Use of amitriptyline mouthwash had local anesthetic effects in oral mucositis without systemic side effects. Decrease in the severity of pain with the use of amitriptyline mouthwash was more than that of benzydamine HCL mouthwash

    Effect of annealing on photo-physical properties of BiI

    In this paper, a simple thermal evaporation deposition (TED) method is used to obtain high-quality bismuth triiodide (BiI3) films on FTO substrate using BiI3 powder as an evaporation source. The effects of annealing on the X-ray diffraction analysis and some optical parameters of BiI3 thin films were investigated. The results show that the annealing temperature on the BiI3 thin film has a great influence on the preferred orientation of the films. When the annealing temperature is 100 °C, for a deposition thickness of 400 nm, the thin films have high crystallinity and rhombohedral morphology. Scanning electron microscopy observation showed high special resolution of BiI3 thin films. UV–Vis transmission spectra have been recorded to determine the optical band-gap of BiI3 films prepared by TED. The obtained data reveal that the indirect optical band-gap of BiI3 thin films decreases from about 1.7 to 1.6 eV, while the Urbach tail width decreases from 484 to 236 meV, by annealing. We discuss the outstanding annealing effect on photo-physical characterizations of BiI3 thin film as a candidate solar cell absorber such as lead-free perovskite solar cells

    Poly(3, 4-ethylendioxythiophene)-poly(styrene sulfonate) mixed with TiO2 nanoparticles (PEDOT:PSS/TiO2) was used as a catalyst for tri-iodide reduction in dye-sensitized solar cells based on natural photosensitizers. A PEDOT:PSS/TiO2 film was coated on a conductive glass substrate by the spin coating method. The solar cells were fabricated, having the PEDOT:PSS/TiO2 film as a counter electrode and Pomegranate juice dye-sensitized TiO2 as an anode. The morphology of PEDOT:PSS/TiO2 films was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) images. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) was employed to characterize the catalytic activity of the PEDOT:PSS/TiO2 film. Based on the analysis of CV, the enhancements for the electrochemical and photochemical performance of the PEDOT:PSS/TiO2 electrode are attributed to the fact that the dispersed TiO2 nanoparticles in the PEDOT:PSS matrix provide an improved catalytic activity and a facilitated diffusion for tri-iodide ions. The energy conversion efficiency is significantly improved after TiO2 nanoparticle incorporation. This improvement might be attributed to an increase in the counter electrode catalytic activity. The highest efficiency of 0.73% was obtained by using 100 nm TiO2 nanoparticles in the counter electrode

    Dicolorization of Reactive Dyes in Aqueous Solutions Using Ionizing Electron Beam Radiation

    Experiments were carried out to study the effects of high-energy electron beam irradiation on reactive azo dyes (Remazol blue 133%, and Remazol red) which are widely used in Yazd textile plants. Laboratory scale experiments were carried out using advanced 10 MeV electron beam accelerator service in Yazd Radiation Processing Center (YRPC). The irradiation dose was varied over 1, 3, 5, 8, and11 kGy. Dicoloration of the prepared dye solution was monitored by comparing the absorption spectra of the samples before and after irradiation. Mineralization of the dye solutions were estimated by measuring COD and PH of the irradiated samples. Our results show a color removal efficeincy of 83% in from different samples by applying 1 kGy irradiation dose. This value increases by up to 96%  under 3kGy irradiation. pH and COD values decrease with increasing absorbed doses.  COD removals for Remazol blue 133% and Remazol  red samples were calculated as 20% and 18% for an absorbed dose of 1 kGy and 60% and 72% for an absorbed dose of 11 kGy, respectively

    Inorganic Surface Engineering to Enhance Perovskite Solar Cell Efficiency

    The photoconversion efficiency of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) is enhanced by the deposition of inorganic nanoparticles (NPs) at the interface between the compact TiO2 electron-selective contact and the mesoporous TiO2 film. The NPs used are core/shell Au@SiO2, where a thin SiO2 coating protects the Au core from the direct chemical interaction with CH3NH3PbI3 halide perovskite used as light-harvesting material. The samples prepared with Au@SiO2 NPs exhibit a higher external quantum efficiency in the complete wavelength range at which perovskite presents light absorption and not just at the wavelengths at which Au@SiO2 NPs present their absorption peak. This fact rules out a direct plasmonic process as responsible for the enhancement of cell performance. A detailed characterization by photoluminescence, impedance spectroscopy, and open-circuit voltage decay unveils a modification of the interfacial properties with an augmentation of the interfacial electrostatic potential that increases both photovoltage and photocurrent. This article highlights the dramatic role of interfaces in the performance of PSCs. The use of reduced quantities of highly stable inorganic compounds to modify the PSC interface instead of the extensively used organic compounds opens the door to a new surface engineering based on inorganic compounds

    Evaluation of Survival Time of Tooth Color Dental Materials in Primary Anterior Teeth

    Introduction: In restorative dentistry, selecting the proper material is an important factor for clinical success. The objective of this study was clinical evaluation of survival time of three tooth color materials in primary anterior teeth. Methods: In this interventional clinical trial study, 94 deciduous anterior teeth (36 teeth in boys, 58 teeth in girls) belonging to 3-5 year old children in Pediatric Department of Mashhad Faculty of Dentistry, Iran were selected. Selective dental materials included compoglass, glass-ionomer Fuji II LC, and composite resin. The data were analyzed with Kaplan–Meyer and Log rank test. Results: compoglass had the highest survival time in comparison with composite and glass-ionomer. Nine months retention rate for teeth restored with compoglass, composite resin and glass-ionomer were estimated: 95%, 21%, and 12.5%, respectively.
