    Conocimiento, actitud y conciencia de COVID-19 entre estudiantes de odontología preclínica y clínica: Una encuesta transversal en línea.

    Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the understanding and perception of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) among the undergraduate preclinical and clinical dental students within Pakistan. Material and Methods: An online survey was developed by the researchers and conducted amongst the undergraduate students at various dental colleges of Pakistan. A pretested questionnaire was used and distributed using social media platforms. The questionnaire consisted of demographics, health status, perception related to general hygiene, understanding and learning attitudes of dental students. Knowledge scores and the attitude responses were compared with the demographics using independent t-test, one-way ANOVA and chi-square, as appropriate. Results: A total of 800 undergraduate dental students responded to the survey, out of which 304(38%) were males and 496(62%) were female students. Students in pre-clinical years were 600(75%), while 200(25%) students were in the clinical years. The knowledge of clinical students regarding COVID-19 was statistically higher (4.71/6), compared to the students in pre-clinical years (4.49/6) (p=0.004). Both groups showed adequate knowledge regarding the route of transmission, symptoms and origin of COVID-19, and COVID-19 being a threat to life. Clinical students did not want to re-use the face mask (75%), compared to the preclinical students (68%) (p-0.048). Students in clinical years reported more awareness regarding the recommended hand washing technique during COVID-19 (p-<0.001). Conclusion: It can be concluded that dental students in clinical years have adequate knowledge regarding the COVID-19 as compared to the preclinical students. The study identifies all areas where preclinical and clinical students lack basic knowledge. This should be compensated by arranging different webinars and online courses to increase the understanding of both clinical and preclinical students during the pandemic.Objetivo: El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar la comprensión y la percepción de la enfermedad por coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) entre los estudiantes de pregrado de odontología clínica y preclínica en Pakistán. Las puntuaciones de conocimiento y las respuestas de actitud se compararon con los datos demográficos mediante la prueba t independiente, ANOVA de una vía y chi-cuadrado, según corresponda.  Resultados: Un total de 800 estudiantes de odontología de pregrado respondieron a la encuesta, de los cuales 304 (38%) eran hombres y 496 (62%) eran mujeres. Los estudiantes en los años preclínicos eran 600 (75%), mientras que 200 (25%) estaban cursando años clínicos. El conocimiento de los estudiantes de clínica sobre COVID-19 fue estadísticamente mayor (4.71/6), en comparación con los estudiantes en años preclínicos (4.49/6) (p=0.004). Ambos grupos mostraron un conocimiento adecuado sobre la vía de transmisión, síntomas y origen de COVID-19, y que COVID-19 es una amenaza para la vida. Los estudiantes en fase clínica no querían reutilizar la mascarilla (75%), en comparación con los estudiantes preclínicos (68%) (p-0.048). Los estudiantes en años clínicos informaron más conciencia sobre la técnica de lavado de manos recomendada durante COVID-19 (p<0,001). Conclusión: Se puede concluir que los estudiantes de odontología en años clínicos tienen un conocimiento adecuado sobre el COVID-19 en comparación con los estudiantes en años preclínicos. El estudio identifica todas las áreas donde los estudiantes clínicos y no clínicos carecen de conocimientos básicos. Esto debe compensarse organizando diferentes seminarios web y cursos en línea para aumentar la comprensión de los estudiantes clínicos y no clínicos durante la pandemia

    CPU and RAM Energy-based SLA-aware Workload Consolidation Techniques for Clouds

    Cloud computing offers hardware and software resources delivered as services. It provides solutions for dynamic as well as ‘‘pay as you go’’ provision of resources. Energy consumption of these resources is high which leads to higher operational costs and carbon emissions in data centers. A number of research studies have been conducted on energy efficiency of data centers, but most of them concentrate on single factor energy consumption, i.e., energy consumed by CPU only, and energy consumption by Random Access Memory (RAM) is neglected. However, recently the focus has been turned towards impact of energy consumption by RAM on data centers. Studies have shown that RAM consumes about 25% of joint energy consumed by a server’s CPU and RAM. In this paper, two energy-aware virtual machine (VM) consolidation schemes are proposed that take into account a server’s capacity in terms of CPU and RAM to reduce the overall energy consumption. The proposed schemes are compared with existing schemes using CloudSim simulator. The results show that the proposed schemes reduce the energy cost with improved Service Level Agreement (SLA)

    Distribution system loss minimization with network reconfiguration and cost-benefit price based demand reduction modeling

    The developments in distribution automation technologies and optimization algorithms have made realization of highly reconfigurable and flexible distribution system viable. This paper proposes grey wolf optimization algorithm (GWO) to generate best reconfigured topology of the system when grid is under stress condition. The solution is used in demand response program based on cost-benefit price models. The reconfiguration scheme integrated with presented game theoretic demand response program is intended at getting peak load reductions to mitigate the distribution network power losses. Simultaneously, this research is aimed at determining the optimal utility, customer profit and load shedding, customers have to do to facilitate power grid on peak hours. The proposed technique is tested on IEEE 69 bus test system with residential customers. The results show 56.46% reduction in power losses and economic benefits, a utility or a consumer can get with the proposed model

    PDMS-Encapsulated MXene@Polyester Fabric Strain Sensor for Multifunctional Sensing Applications

    Flexible strain sensors based on 2D materials have been proven effective for wearable health monitoring devices, human motion detection, and fitness applications. These sensors are flexible, light, and user-friendly, but their sensitivity and detection range need to be enhanced. Among many 2D materials, MXene attracts much interest due to its remarkable properties, such as high electrical conductivity, excellent mechanical properties, flexibility, and good hydrophilicity. However, it is a challenge to fabricate strain sensors with extreme sensitivity and a wide sensing range. In this work, a multifunctional, cost-effective, and highly sensitive PDMS-encapsulated MXene@polyester fabric strain sensor was fabricated. Firstly, complete adsorption of MXene within the fabric formed conductive networks, and then PDMS was used to endow superhydrophobicity and corrosion resistance. The strain sensor demonstrated multifunctional applications and outstanding performance, such as long-term stability (over 500 cycles) and a wide sensing range (8%). The proposed sensor has promising potential for wearable electronic devices such as health monitoring systems and physiological sensing applications

    Current Scientific Research Trends on Salivary Biomarkers: A Bibliometric Analysis

    Salivary biomarkers are indicators of many biological and pathological conditions and provide further information regarding the early detection of diseases. This bibliometric analysis aims to identify and evaluate the scientific literature addressing salivary biomarkers from a dental perspective, to identify the most prolific organizations, authors, journals, countries, and keywords used within this research domain. An electronic search was performed using Elsevier’s Scopus database. From a total of 587 retrieved papers (published between 1997 and 2021), 399 were selected. For the data analysis and its visualization, the title of the articles, year of publication, countries, authors, journals, articles, and keywords were analyzed using Microsoft Excel and VOSviewer (a bibliometric software program). An increase in the number of publications was identified from 1997 to 2021. The United States (U.S.) published the most papers (84) and received the highest citations (3778), followed by India and Brazil. The Journal of Periodontology published the highest number of articles (39) that received the highest citations. The University of Kentucky from the U.S. published most of the papers related to salivary biomarkers that received the highest citations. Timo Sorsa published the most papers (14 papers), while Craig Miller was the highest cited author (754 citations). Concerning the highly cited papers, a paper by Micheal et al., published in 2010, received the highest citations (487 citations). “Saliva”, followed by “human”, were the most common keywords used by the authors in the papers related to salivary biomarkers. The findings of this analysis revealed an increase in salivary biomarker-related publications that positively influenced the number of citations each paper received. The U.S. produced the most publications that received the highest citations, and the University of Kentucky, U.S., was the most prominent. The articles were mostly published in the Journal of Periodontology and received the highest number of citations

    Ultrahigh Energy and Power Densities of d-MXene-Based Symmetric Supercapacitors

    Here, rational design electrodes are fabricated by mixing MXene with an aqueous solution of chloroauric acid (HAuCl4). In order to prevent MXene from self-restacking, the groups of -OH on the surface of Ti3C2Tx nanosheets underwent a one-step simultaneous self-reduction from AuCl4-, generating spaces for rapid ion transit. Additionally, by using this procedure, MXene&rsquo;s surface oxidation can be decreased while preserving its physio-chemical properties. The interlayered MX/Au NPs that have been obtained are combined into a conducting network structure that offers more active electrochemical sites and improved mass transfer at the electrode&ndash;electrolyte interface, both of which promote quick electron transfer during electrochemical reactions and excellent structural durability. The Ti3C2Tx-AuNPs film thus demonstrated a rate performance that was preferable to that of pure Ti3C2Tx film. According to the results of the characterization, the AuNPs effectively adorn the MXene nanosheets. Due to the renowned pseudocapacitance charge storage mechanism, MXene-based electrode materials also work well as supercapacitors in sulfuric acid, which is why MXene AuNPs electrodes have been tested in 3 M and 1 M H2SO4. The symmetric supercapacitors made of MXene and AuNPs have shown exceptional specific capacitance of 696.67 Fg&minus;1 at 5 mVs&minus;1 in 3 M H2SO4 electrolyte, and they can sustain 90% of their original capacitance for 5000 cycles. The highest energy and power density of this device, which operates within a 1.2 V potential window, are 138.4 Wh kg&minus;1 and 2076 W kg&minus;1, respectively. These findings offer a productive method for creating high-performance metal oxide-based symmetric capacitors and a straightforward, workable approach for improving MXene-based electrode designs, which can be applied to other electro-chemical systems that are ion transport-restricted, such as metal ion batteries and catalysis

    Mechanism behind sources and sinks of major anthropogenic greenhouse gases

    Greenhouse gases (GHGs) are major contributors to global warming and climate change. These gases modulate the atmospheric radiative forcing and play an important role in Earth's albedo. The emission level, global warming potential and the persistence of a GHG define its accumulation in the atmosphere and relative potential to change radiative forcing. The major anthropogenic GHGs include methane, nitric oxide, ozone, hydrochloroflourocarbons, chloroflourocarbons, sulfur hexaflouride and nitrogen triflouride Besides these, some gases indirectly act as GHGs like carbon monoxide, non-methane hydrocarbons, and nitrogen oxides. Many scientists have already warned regarding elevated emission trends after the industrial revolution. From last decades the emission of GHGs has tremendously increased in the atmosphere and the natural sinks of GHGs have contracted over time. Generally, fossil fuel burning and change in land use are major sources of GHGs while major sinks include soil, ocean and atmosphere. Interestingly the emission trends of greenhouse gases from different sources as well as the contribution of various countries to global greenhouse gasses budget have changed. Thus previous footprints, trends and projections regarding GHGs are needed to be reevaluated. Specific precautions and strategies are compatible to reduce GHGs emissions while further may help to obtain global temperature to above pre-industrial ambient temperature level by reducing 2°C in current temperature
