Generation of optimal trajectories for Earth hybrid pole sitters
A pole-sitter orbit is a closed path that is constantly above one of the Earth's poles, by means of continuous low thrust. This work proposes to hybridize solar sail propulsion and solar electric propulsion (SEP) on the same spacecraft, to enable such a pole-sitter orbit. Locally-optimal control laws are found with a semi-analytical inverse method, starting from a trajectory that satisfies the pole-sitter condition in the Sun-Earth circular restricted three-body problem. These solutions are subsequently used as first guess to find optimal orbits, using a direct method based on pseudospectral transcription. The orbital dynamics of both the pure SEP case and the hybrid case are investigated and compared. It is found that the hybrid spacecraft allows savings on propellant mass fraction. Finally, it is shown that for sufficiently long missions, a hybrid pole-sitter, based on mid-term technology, enables a consistent reduction in the launch mass for a given payload, with respect to a pure SEP spacecraft
Specific heat amplitude ratios for anisotropic Lifshitz critical behaviors
We determine the specific heat amplitude ratio near a -axial Lifshitz
point and show its universal character. Using a recent renormalization group
picture along with new field-theoretical -expansion techniques,
we established this amplitude ratio at one-loop order. We estimate the
numerical value of this amplitude ratio for and . The result is in
very good agreement with its experimental measurement on the magnetic material
. It is shown that in the limit it trivially reduces to the

Effect of low temperature nitriding of 100Cr6 substrates on TiN coatings deposited by IBAD
CNPQ - CONSELHO NACIONAL DE DESENVOLVIMENTO CIENTÍFICO E TECNOLÓGICOIn this paper we studied the influence of pre-treating the surface of 100Cr6 steel by ion beam nitriding at low temperature (380 degrees C) on the surface topography and wear resistance of thin TiN coatings deposited by reactive ion beam assisted deposition. The specimens were characterized by grazing incidence X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. The wear resistance of the TiN-coated specimens was evaluated by means of ball on disc tests. A new picture of the Lifshitz critical behavior
New field theoretic renormalization group methods are developed to describe
in a unified fashion the critical exponents of an m-fold Lifshitz point at the
two-loop order in the anisotropic (m not equal to d) and isotropic (m=d close
to 8) situations. The general theory is illustrated for the N-vector phi^4
model describing a d-dimensional system. A new regularization and
renormalization procedure is presented for both types of Lifshitz behavior. The
anisotropic cases are formulated with two independent renormalization group
transformations. The description of the isotropic behavior requires only one
type of renormalization group transformation. We point out the conceptual
advantages implicit in this picture and show how this framework is related to
other previous renormalization group treatments for the Lifshitz problem. The
Feynman diagrams of arbitrary loop-order can be performed analytically provided
these integrals are considered to be homogeneous functions of the external
momenta scales. The anisotropic universality class (N,d,m) reduces easily to
the Ising-like (N,d) when m=0. We show that the isotropic universality class
(N,m) when m is close to 8 cannot be obtained from the anisotropic one in the
limit d --> m near 8. The exponents for the uniaxial case d=3, N=m=1 are in

Variability and evolution of the optical polarization of a sample of gamma-ray blazars
We present a polarization variability analysis of a sample of 26 -ray
blazars monitored by the Steward Observatory between 2008 and 2018 in the
optical band. We investigate the properties and long-term variability of their
optical polarization, searching for differences between blazar types. We
observe that BL Lac objects are typically less polarized and less variable than
flat spectrum radio quasars (FSRQs). Moreover, BL Lacs display a distribution
of their polarization angle typically oriented in a preferential direction,
contrary to the rather random distribution of FSRQs. For the latter blazar
type, as well as those sources showing a bright stellar emission, we take into
account the depolarizing effect introduced by the broad line region and the
host galaxy on the measured polarization degree. In this sample we also observe
that BL Lacs present an uncorrelated evolution of the flux and the
polarization. Contrary, FSRQs show a correlation before the depolarization
correction, that is lost however after considering this effect. In addition, we
study the behaviour of the polarization angle, searching for angle rotations in
its long-term evolution. We derive that the FSRQs studied here show rotations
more frequently than BL Lac objects by a factor 1.5. During these periods
we also observe a systematic decrease of the polarization fraction, as well as
a marginal flux increase, not significant however to connect rotations with
optical flares. We interpret these results within the extended shock-in-jet
scenario, able to explain the overall features observed here for the

E-government adoption: A cultural comparison

This study compares e-government adoption in the U.K. to adoption in the U.S. In particular, this study seeks to determine if the same factors are salient in both countries. Several studies have explored citizen acceptance of e-government services in the U.S. However, few studies have explored this phenomenon in the U.K. To identify the similarities and differences between the U.K. and the U.S. a survey is conducted in the U.K. and the findings are compared to the literature that investigates diffusion in the U.S. This study proposes a model of e-government adoption in the U.K. based on salient factors in the U.S. A survey is administered to 260 citizens in London to assess the importance of relative advantage, trust and the digital divide on intention to use e-government. The results of binary logistic regression indicate that there are cultural differences in e-government adoption in the U.K. and the U.S. The results indicate that of the prevailing adoption constructs, relative advantage and trust are pertinent in both the U.S. and the U.K., while ICT adoption barriers such as access and skill may vary by culture. Implications for research and practice are discussed
Biochemical Characterization of a Trypanosomatid Isolated from the Plant Amaranthus retroflexus
A protozoan flagelate has recently been isolated from Amaranthus retroflexus. This plant grows near economically important crops in southeastern Spain, which are known to be parasitized by Phytomonas spp. The present study focuses on the characterization of the energy metabolism of this new isolate. These flagellates utilize glucose efficiently as their primary energy source, although they are unable to completely degrade it. They excrete ethanol, acetate, glycine, and succinate in lower amount, as well as ammonium. The presence of glycosomes was indicated by the early enzymes of the glycolytic pathway, one enzyme of the glycerol pathway (glycerol kinase), and malate dehydrogenase. No evidence of a fully functional citric-acid cycle was found. In the absence of catalase activity, these flagellates showed significant superoxide dismutase activity located in the glycosomal and cytosolic fractions. These trypanosomes, despite being morphologically and metabolically similar to other Phytomonas isolated from the same area, showed significant differences, suggesting that they are phylogenetically different species
Further Characterization of the Electrogenicity and pH Sensitivity of the Human Organic Anion-Transporting Polypeptides OATP1B1 and OATP1B3
Organic anion-transporting polypeptides (OATPs) are involved in the liver uptake of many endogenous and xenobiotic compounds, such as bile acids and drugs, respectively. Using Xenopus laevis oocytes and Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells expressing rat Oatp1a1, human OATP1B1, or OATP1B3, the sensitivity of these transporters to extracellular/intracellular pH (pHo/pHi) and changes in plasma membrane potential (ΔΨ) was investigated. In X. laevis oocytes, nonspecific plasma membrane permeability increased only at pHo below 4.5. Above this value, both using oocytes and CHO cells, extracellular acidification affected differently the specific transport of taurocholic acid (TCA) and estradiol 17β-d-glucuronide (E217βG) by Oatp1a1 (stimulation), OATP1B1 (inhibition), and OATP1B3 (stimulation). Changes in substrate uptake in the presence of valinomycin (K+-ionophore), carbonyl cyanide 3-chlorophenylhydrazone and nigericin (protonophores), and amiloride (Na+/H+-inhibitor) and cation replacement in the medium were studied with fluorescent probes for measuring substrate uptake (cholylglycyl amidofluorescein) and changes in pHi (SNARF-4F) and ΔΨ [DilC1(5)]. The results suggest that activity of these three carriers is sodium/potassium-independent and affected differently by changes in pHo and ΔΨ: Oatp1a1 was confirmed to be an electroneutral anion exchanger, whereas the function of both OATP1B1 and OATP1B3 was markedly affected by the magnitude of ΔΨ. Moreover, electrophysiological measurements revealed the existence of a net anion influx associated to OATP1B1/OATP1B3-mediated transport of TCA, E217βG, and estrone-3-sulfate. Furthermore, a leakage of Na+ through OATP1B1 and OATP1B3, which is not coupled to substrate transport, was found. In conclusion, these results suggest that OATP1B1 and OATP1B3 are electrogenic transporters whose activity may be strongly affected under circumstances of displacement of local pH
