    Increasing the Accuracy of Detection and Recognition in Visual Surveillance

    Visual surveillance has two major steps of detecting and recognizing moving objects. In the detection stage, moving objects must be detected as quickly and accurately as possible and the influence of environmental light changes and waving trees should be reduced. In this research a block-based method is introduced in HSV color space in the detection stage. This method did not scan all the pixels of the frame and acted well in situations like sudden light changes. A powerful pattern recognition system should have powerful feature extraction and classification. Note that, feature extraction in gray level or RGB color space has problems such as environmental light changes, adding noise or changes in contrast and sharpness of images, which lead to weak classification. So the HSV color space was used. Here, Block-based Improved Center Symmetric Local Binary Pattern is introduced for feature extraction. In each component of the HSV color space, information of highlight areas in the image such as edge, shape and some texture was extracted. The histogram was calculated in two-level blocks and Support Vector Machine was used for classifying into vehicles, motorcycles and pedestrians.     Ethical Considerations in Conducting Clinical Trials

    Background: Clinical trials are the golden key in medical science research with human participants. They have always been considered interesting topics by researchers and scientists working in this field. However, the samples are “human participants,” so the research should be carefully conducted.Methods: In the present study, the published articles on the ethical challenges of conducting clinical trials were evaluated between 2010 and 2019 in Google Scholar, PubMed, and Scopus. The English search keywords were “clinical trial,” with at least one of the phrases of “ethical consideration” or “standard”.Results: In this article, we examined the ethical requirements and considerations in these research studies in four stages: research design and question, proposal review and approval, supervision and implementation, and publication of the results. We have examined them using relevant articles published between 2010 and 2019 and identified important and prominent issues or neglected ones. Conclusion: During this study, it was found that the “research design and question” stage was the most discussed and challenging stage, and the authors’ sensitivity about it has been more than the other three stages. On the other hand, the “results publishing” stage has been considered less sensitive with the least number of references in articles

    Simulating Cotton Growth and Productivity Using AquaCrop Model under Deficit Irrigation in a Semi-Arid Climate

    AquaCrop is a water-driven model that simulates the effect of environment and management on crop production under deficit irrigation. The model was calibrated and validated using three databases and four irrigation treatments (i.e., 100%ET, 80%ET, 70%ET, and 50%ET). Model performance was evaluated by simulating canopy cover (CC), biomass accumulation, and water productivity (WP). Statistics of root mean square error (RMSE) and Willmott’s index of agreement (d) showed that model predictions are suitable for non-stressed and moderate stressed conditions. The results showed that the simulated biomass and yield were consistent with the measured values with a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.976 and 0.950, respectively. RMSE and d-index values for canopy cover (CC) were 2.67% to 4.47% and 0.991% to 0.998% and for biomass were 0.088 to 0.666 ton/ha and 0.991 to 0.999 ton/ha, respectively. Prediction of simulated and measured biomass and final yield was acceptable with deviation ˂10%. The overall value of R2 for WP in terms of yield was 0.943. Treatment with 80% ET consumed 20% less water than the treatment with 100%ET and resulted in high WP in terms of yield (0.6 kg/m3) and biomass (1.74 kg/m3), respectively. The deviations were in the range of −2% to 11% in yield and −2% to 4% in biomass. It was concluded that AquaCrop is a useful tool in predicting the productivity of cotton under different irrigation scenarios

    Comparison of the effectiveness of the most used chemicals against Tuta absoluta in Tunisia

    Control failures with several chemicals have prompted research into the resistance status of Tuta absoluta and the effectiveness of certain active ingredients against this pest. In this context, a comparison was made of the effectiveness of the most widely used chemicals against T. absoluta in Tunisia. The results show that the L1 larval stage of Tuta absoluta is very sensitive to all of the chemicals tested. Stage L2 is sensitive to Spinosad, indoxacarb and emactin, while Bacillus thuringiensis, martine do not cause 50% mortality. L3 stage mortality fluctuates between 20% and 80% mortality. The L4 stage is more affected by the treatment with Bacillus thuringiensis which can go to 100%. Based on these results, chemical treatments should be directed according to the dominant larval stage in the plants

    This is a case of a patient with bowel obstruction , imaging studies were suggestive for pneumatosis intestinalis. Clinically diagnosed as adhesion band and pnematosis intestinalis. She underwent laparatomy, enterolysis, obstructionolysis and enterorrhaphy. The patient developed respiratory distress and expired after 2 days. At autopsy we found gray-brown discoloration in the wall of some part of small bowel and flattening of mucus membrane. Grossly multiple gas-filled cysts were seen at the serosal surface. Microscopic evaluation of small intestine wall showed multiple cysts located in submucosal and serosal layers

    This article reports on a qualitative study, which was conducted to identify the problems faced by the general public as well as the security agencies on check posts as well as toll plazas due to lesser use of E-Tag facility for smooth movement of traffic and reduction in terrorist activities. The sample of study consisted of all the twelve persons from different classes and professions, who shared their personal experiences about this issue. A structured interview with open-ended questions was used to investigate the problems of traffic and terrorist activities. Collected data were analyzed through (transcribing and coding) the statements given by the general public. It was found that there are some serious issues on both the ends of general public as well as security agencies to maintain terrorist free movement of traffic within and outside cities of Pakistan. It was surprising to find out that there is no public awareness campaign by the government to educated general public about the use of E-Tag facility on both print and electronic media. The problem of traffic jam as well as reduction in terrorist activities can be overcome by the extensive use of modern technology likewise cameras & scanners respectively.Key words: Public awareness, Role of media, E-Tag facility, Use of modern technology, Terrorist activities
