Multiple scattering measurements in laboratory and foggy atmosphere
Multiple scattering affects propagation of light beams in turbid media. Backscattering or forward scattering based measurements of atmospheric parameters are influenced by this effect. Although largely studied theoretically, the effect needs measurements in control of situations due to the large variety of situations of practical importance. The results of laboratory measurements pertaining to the transmission of a collimated light beam (Helium-Neon souce, 10 mW) through suspensions of latex spheres in water are presented and a comparison was made with the predictions of calculation in a foggy atmosphere will also be presented
Promotion of proliferation and metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma by LncRNA00673 based on the targeted-regulation of notch signaling pathway
we read with great interest the paper by Dr. Chen et al1, recently published in European
Review for Medical and Pharmacological Sciences and titled ‘‘Promotion of proliferation and
metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma by LncRNA00673 based on the targeted-regulation
of notch signaling pathway’’. Authors concluded that lncRNA00673 is highly expressed and
may be a potential target for the treatment of Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC). Moreover,
according to authors, it can promote the proliferation and metastasis of HCC by the regulation
of Notch signaling pathway. We congratulate the authors for their interesting work
The lncRNA HOTAIR transcription is controlled by HNF4α-induced chromatin topology modulation
The expression of the long noncoding RNA HOTAIR (HOX Transcript Antisense Intergenic RNA) is largely deregulated in epithelial cancers and positively correlates with poor prognosis and progression of hepatocellular carcinoma and gastrointestinal cancers. Furthermore, functional studies revealed a pivotal role for HOTAIR in the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition, as this RNA is causal for the repressive activity of the master factor SNAIL on epithelial genes. Despite the proven oncogenic role of HOTAIR, its transcriptional regulation is still poorly understood. Here hepatocyte nuclear factor 4-α (HNF4α), as inducer of epithelial differentiation, was demonstrated to directly repress HOTAIR transcription in the mesenchymal-to epithelial transition. Mechanistically, HNF4α was found to cause the release of a chromatin loop on HOTAIR regulatory elements thus exerting an enhancer-blocking activity
Dynamic modelling of a 3-CPU parallel robot via screw theory
The article describes the dynamic modelling of I.Ca.Ro., a novel Cartesian parallel robot recently designed and prototyped by the robotics research group of the Polytechnic University of Marche. By means of screw theory and virtual work principle, a computationally efficient model has been built, with the final aim of realising advanced model based controllers. Then a dynamic analysis has been performed in order to point out possible model simplifications that could lead to a more efficient run time implementation

COSMOSOMAS Observations of the CMB and Galactic Foregrounds at 11 GHz: Evidence for anomalous microwave emission at high Galactic Latitude
We present observations with the new 11 GHz radiometer of the COSMOSOMAS
experiment at the Teide Observatory (Tenerife). The sky region between 0 deg <=
RA <= 360 deg and 26 deg <= DEC 49 deg (ca. 6500 square degrees) was observed
with an angular resolution of 0.9 deg. Two orthogonal independent channels in
the receiving system measured total power signals from linear polarizations
with a 2 GHz bandwidth. Maps with an average sensitivity of 50 microK per beam
have been obtained for each channel. At high Galactic latitude (|b|>30deg) the
11 GHz data are found to contain the expected cosmic microwave background as
well as extragalactic radiosources, galactic synchrotron and free-free
emission, and a dust-correlated component which is very likely of galactic
origin. At the angular scales allowed by the window function of the experiment,
the dust-correlated component presents an amplitude \Delta T aprox. 9-13 microK
while the CMB signal is of order 27 microK. The spectral behaviour of the
dust-correlated signal is examined in the light of previous COSMOSOMAS data at
13-17 GHz and WMAP data at 22-94 GHz in the same sky region. We detect a
flattening in the spectral index of this signal below 20 GHz which rules out
synchrotron radiation as being responsible for the emission. This anomalous
dust emission can be described by a combination of free-free emission and
spinning dust models with a flux density peaking around 20 GHz.Comment: 17 pages, 10 tables, 20 figures. Details on the COSMOSOMAS experiment

Conductive Thermoplastic Starch (TPS) Composite Filled with Waste Iron Filings
A thermoplastic starch (TPS) was produced, starting with potato starch, glycerol and acetic acid, to shape it in films of thickness around 100 microns. To TPS iron waste filing particles, in the amount of 12% the weight of starch, were introduced in different modalities: as received, reduced in size by the use of a mortar, after treatment with hydrochloric acid, and after treatment and removal of hydrochloric acid. Morphological studies were carried out by optical and scanning electron microscopy and illustrated that the dispersion of iron filings was not optimal, though some improvement was observed by a reduced dimension of the particles. Tensile tests indicated the considerable improvement of stiffness offered by the insertion of iron particles to TPS, although the ultimate strain was reduced to less than 10%. Thermal characterization using thermogravimetry allowed revealing the three typical peaks for potato starch degradation, with only a slight decrease due to iron introduction. EDS allowed evaluating the presence of impurities in the iron filings and evidenced that the presence of iron was more effective on the surface than in the rest of the film. As a final consideration, An improvement in electrical conductivity by over an order of magnitude was obtained by the TPS+Fe+HCl film with respect to pure TPS
Histochemical and morpho-metrical study of mouse intestine epithelium after a long term diet containing genetically modified soybean
Diet can influence the structural characteristics of both small and large intestine. In this study, we investigated the duodenum and colon of mice fed on genetically modified (GM) soybean during their whole life span (1–24 months) by focusing our attention on the histological and ultrastructural characteristics of the epithelium, the histochemical pattern of goblet cell mucins, and the growth profile of the coliform population. Our results demonstrate that controls and GM-soybean fed mice are similarly affected by ageing. Moreover, the GM soybean-containing diet does not induce structural alterations in duodenal and colonic epithelium or in coliform population, even after a long term intake. On the other hand, the histochemical approach revealed significant diet-related changes in mucin amounts in the duodenum. In particular, the percentage of villous area occupied by acidic and sulpho-mucin granules decreased from controls to GM-fed animals, whereas neutral mucins did not change
