Perceived Self-Regulation and Violence Tendency: Psychological Implications in Turkey

    Get PDF
This study aims to investigate the relationship between perceived self-regulation life satisfaction and violence tendencies. This study uses a quantitative approach. The sample in this study consisted of 340 participants from the entire class population. Data was collected using a questionnaire book guided by a Likert scale of 1 to 5. Data analysis was carried out in several stages, namely self-regulation scale analysis, tendency scale analysis and life scale analysis. These findings indicate a positive correlation between perceived self-regulation and life satisfaction, as well as a negative relationship between perceived self-regulation and violent tendencies. The predictive role of perceived self-regulation on life satisfaction is apparent, although the relationship between violent tendencies and life satisfaction remains ambiguous. This research shows that perceived self-regulation plays an essential role in an individual's well-being and that good self-regulation has a lower likelihood of violence

The aim of this study was to examine an antenatal orientation interviews training for prospective parents' postnatal depression levels. A quasi-experimental study carried out with 26 (12 experimental, 14 control) prospective mother and father. Participants completed the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale one week before the intervention and 12 weeks after birth. Participants in experimental group received a four week new situation orientation interviews training for parents but any intervention made in control group. Results of this study suggested that albeit analyzing the orientation interviews of the males and the females in the experimental group, individual depression scores were observed to decrease, but this decrease was found to be statistically insignificant. However, once the depression levels of the families were analyzed as a whole, the parents' prenatal and postpartum depression levels were similar in the control group but parents in the experimental group post-partum depression levels were significantly decreased in postnatal period. Keywords: Postpartum depression, antenatal orientation interviews, prospective parents, Turkey

Ibn Khaldun is a 14th century philosopher, statesman and historian, who is regarded as one of the pioneers of modern historiography, sociology and economics. As one of the most prominent Islamic-Arab thinkers, Ibn Khaldun’s views are related many areas ranging from general education to curriculum to instruction to qualifications of teachers and child education. In this regard, the educational ideas of Ibn Khaldun were investigated in the context of “Clash of Civilizations” which is proposed by Samuel Huntington indicating that the international relations in this age will be highly affected by civilizations rather than political or economic ideologies since the 1990s, which corresponded to the post-Cold War period. The study is a qualitative study based on document analysis. In this study, Ibn Khaldun’s views on education in the context of clash of civilizations are discussed because education is very close concept with civilization according to Ibn Khaldun’s ideas

The aim of this study is to develop a scale appropriate for the cultural structure that can be used to measure social media addiction in adolescents. For the scale development process, 67 items were created first and a draft form was obtained following the results of pilot scheme and expert opinions. The validity and reliability studies of the scale were conducted with a total of 830 students, 446 male and 384 female students studying in different secondary schools (7th and 8th grades) and high schools in Amasya during the academic year of 2017-2018. Exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were performed for the validity analysis of the scale. As a result of the exploratory factor analysis, a scale consisting of 24 items and 2 sub-dimensions explaining 51,405% of the total variance was obtained. Confirmatory factor analysis was performed after that and the fit indices were found to be adequate and the two-factor scale was confirmed (x2 /sd=1.89; GFI= .90; CFI = .93; TLI= .92; RMSEA = .052 and SRMR= 0,047).In addition, in order to determine the validity of the scale, its relationship with Bayraktar's (2001) "Internet Dependency Scale" and was evaluated and a significant positive relationship between them was found. The Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient for the subscales and total of the scale was calculated and found to be sufficient (Cronbach α=between .86 and .93). In addition to this, to determine the test-retest reliability, the scale was applied to the same group for three weeks and the correlation coefficients were found significant. As a result, the values obtained indicate that Social Media Addiction Scale is a valid and reliable scale to measure social media addiction of adolescents in Turkey.Extended English summary is in the end of Full Text PDF (TURKISH) file.ÖzetBu çalışmanın amacı, ergenlerdeki sosyal medya bağımlılığını ölçmede kullanılabilecek kültürel yapıya uygun bir ölçek geliştirmektir.

AbstractThe aim of this study was to explore associations between transformational leadership and limitedness schemas of university students. Data were collected from 66 male (34.2%) and 127 females (65.8%), a total of 193 university students. The minimum age was 17 and the maximum age was 23. The mean age of the sample was 19.62 years with a standard deviation of 1.21. The results reveal that females have higher scores than males with regard to transformational leadership characteristics. Comparison of the differences between male and female subjects in terms of limitedness orientation showed that males reported higher scores than females on limitedness schemas. In addition, limitedness about relations and limitedness about the world were significantly associated with transactional leadership and a laissez-faire philosophy, but connections of dysfunctional limitedness schemas with transformational leadership were not significant
