Factor structure and psychometric properties of the body appreciation scale among adults in Hong Kong
Previous research has suggested that the factor structure of Body Appreciation Scale (BAS), a widely-used measure of positive body image, may not be cross-culturally equivalent. Here, we used confirmatory factor analysis to evaluate the conceptual equivalence of a Chinese (Cantonese) translation of the BAS among women (n = 1,319) and men (n = 1,084) in Hong Kong. Results showed that neither the one-dimensional nor proposed two-dimensional factor structures had adequate fit. Instead, a modified two-dimensional structure, which retained 9 of the 13 BAS items in two factors, had the best fit. However, only one these factors, reflective of General Body Appreciation, had adequate internal consistency. This factor also had good patterns of construct validity, as indicated through significant correlations with participant body mass index, self-esteem, and (among women) actual-ideal weight discrepancy. The present results suggest that there may be cultural differences in the concept and experience of body appreciation
Inhomogeneous Magnetoelectric Effect on Defect in Multiferroic Material: Symmetry Prediction
Inhomogeneous magnetoelectric effect in magnetization distribution
heterogeneities (0-degree domain walls) appeared on crystal lattice defect of
the multiferroic material has been investigated. Magnetic symmetry based
predictions of kind of electrical polarization distribution in their volumes
were used. It was found that magnetization distribution heterogeneity with any
symmetry produces electrical polarization. Results were systemized in scope of
micromagnetic structure chirality. It was shown that all 0-degree domain walls
with time-noninvariant chirality have identical type of spatial distribution of

Associations Between Positive Body Image, Sexual Liberalism, and Unconventional Sexual Practices in U.S. Adults
While studies have documented robust relationships between body image and sexual health outcomes, few studies have looked beyond sexual functioning in women. Here, we hypothesized that more positive body image would be associated with greater sexual liberalism and more positive attitudes toward unconventional sexual practices. An online sample of 151 women and 164 men from the U.S. completed measures of sexual liberalism, attitudes toward unconventional sexual practices, and indices of positive body image (i.e., body appreciation, body acceptance by others, body image flexibility, and body pride), and provided their demographic details. Regression analyses indicated that, once the effects of sexual orientation, relationship status, age, and body mass index had been accounted for, higher body appreciation was significantly associated with greater sexual liberalism in women and men. Furthermore, higher body appreciation and body image flexibility were significantly associated with more positive attitudes toward unconventional sexual practices in women and men. These results may have implications for scholars working from a sex-positive perspective, particularly in terms of understanding the role body image plays in sexual attitudes and behaviors
Examination of the factor structure of the Schizotypal Personality Questionnaire (SPQ) among British and Trinidadian adults
Much debate in schizotypal research has centred on the factor structure of the Schizotypal Personality Questionnaire (SPQ), with research variously showing higher-order dimensionality consisting of two to seven dimensions. In addition, cross-cultural support for the stability of those factors remains limited. Here, we examined the factor structure of the SPQ among British and Trinidadian adults. Participants from a White British sub-sample (n = 351) resident in the UK and from an African Caribbean sub-sample (n = 284) resident in Trinidad completed the SPQ. The higher-order factor structure of the SPQ was analysed through confirmatory factor analysis, followed by multiple-group analysis for the model of best-fit. Between-group differences for sex and ethnicity were investigated using multivariate analysis of variance in relation to the higher-order domains. The model of best-fit was the four-factor structure, which demonstrated measurement invariance across groups. Additionally, these data had an adequate fit for two alternative models: a) 3 factors and b) a modified 4-factor. The British sub-sample had significantly higher scores across all domains than the Trinidadian group, and men scored significantly higher on the disorganised domain than women. The four-factor structure received confirmatory support and, importantly, support for use with populations varying in ethnicity and culture

Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) Investigation of Local Scour Around Emergent and Submerged Circular Cylinders
Analysis of the velocity field surrounding a circular cylinder under equilibrium of local scour has been restricted due to practical limitations of commonly used measurement techniques. This investigation summarizes select cases in the literature which have attempted to circumvent such limitations and presents flow field measurements using Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV). Scour tests were conducted in a horizontal flume fitted with a sediment recess containing erodible bed material. Tests were conducted with both emergent and submerged circular cylinders for a period of 24 hours, after which equilibrium was achieved and planar PIV measurements were obtained in the streamwise-vertical symmetry plane. Analysis of bed profiles and the distribution of the mean velocity indicated that the scour depth upstream of the cylinder was slightly (2 percent) higher for the emergent case, and separation of flow over the top of the submerged cylinder affected the formation of the dune in the wake of the cylinder
The investigation of absolute proper motions of the XPM Catalogue
The XPM-1.0 is the regular version of the XPM catalogue. In comparison with
XPM the astrometric catalogue of about 280 millions stars covering entire sky
from -90 to +90 degrees in declination and in the magnitude range 10^m<B<22^m
is something improved. The general procedure steps were followed as for XPM,
but some of them are now performed on a more sophisticated level. The XPM-1.0
catalogue contains star positions, proper motions, 2MASS and USNO photometry of
about 280 millions of the sources. We present some investigations of the
absolute proper motions of XPM-1.0 catalogue and also the important information
for the users of the catalogue. Unlike previous version, the XPM-1.0 contains
the proper motions over the whole sky without gaps. In the fields, which cover
the zone of avoidance or which contain less than of 25 galaxies a quasi
absolute calibration was performed. The proper motion errors are varying from 3
to 10 mas/yr, depending on a specific field. The zero-point of the absolute
proper motion frame (the absolute calibration) was specified with more than 1
million galaxies from 2MASS and USNO-A2.0. The mean formal error of absolute

The Minimum Description Length principle for online sequence
estimation/prediction in a proper learning setup is studied. If the underlying
model class is discrete, then the total expected square loss is a particularly
interesting performance measure: (a) this quantity is finitely bounded,
implying convergence with probability one, and (b) it additionally specifies
the convergence speed. For MDL, in general one can only have loss bounds which
are finite but exponentially larger than those for Bayes mixtures. We show that
this is even the case if the model class contains only Bernoulli distributions.
We derive a new upper bound on the prediction error for countable Bernoulli
classes. This implies a small bound (comparable to the one for Bayes mixtures)
for certain important model classes. We discuss the application to Machine
Learning tasks such as classification and hypothesis testing, and
