High cell density reactor for the production of Lactobacillus plantarum

The production of a flocculent strain of Lactobacillus plantarum was performed in a high cell density reactor: a fluidized bed reactor (FBR) with a settler and an external cell recirculation. Two variables were assessed, the recirculation rate (R) and the dilution rate (D). The effect of the latter is much more important than the effect of the former in ensuring a quick start up in the flocculation process. The cell volumetric productivities obtained with this system increase directly with dilution rate and recirculation rate. The values of cell volumetric productivities obtained are considerably higher than those obtained in continuous stirred tank reactors (CSTR) and much higher than in batch reactors

Diversity and distribution of jumping plant-lice (Hemiptera: Psylloidea) along edges of Amazon - Cerrado transitional forests in Sorriso, Mato Grosso, Brazil.

Little is known about the jumping plant-lice of Brazil from where seven families, 45 genera and 76 species have been previously reported, but estimates suggest that there may be as many as 1,000 species. This study reports 34 species of Psylloidea which were collected along the edges of Amazon?Cerrado natural transitional forests in the municipality of Sorriso, state of Mato Grosso, from August 2013 to July 2014. Of the species reported in this study only nine represent described taxa, two of which are reported for the first time from Mato Grosso.hardt et al. 2013; Mazzardo 2014; Mazzardo et al. 2016): the two introduced eucalypt pests Blastopsylla occidentalis and Glycaspis brimblecombei, the three Fabaceae feeders Euphalerus clitoriae, Isogonoceraia divergipennis and Macrocorsa beeryi, the Toona pest Mastigimas anjosi, and the Nectandra psylloid Limataphalara lautereri. Geodesic stability, Lyapunov exponents and quasinormal modes

Geodesic motion determines important features of spacetimes. Null unstable geodesics are closely related to the appearance of compact objects to external observers and have been associated with the characteristic modes of black holes. By computing the Lyapunov exponent, which is the inverse of the instability timescale associated with this geodesic motion, we show that, in the eikonal limit, quasinormal modes of black holes in any dimensions are determined by the parameters of the circular null geodesics. This result is independent of the field equations and only assumes a stationary, spherically symmetric and asymptotically flat line element, but it does not seem to be easily extendable to anti-de Sitter spacetimes. We further show that (i) in spacetime dimensions greater than four, equatorial circular timelike geodesics in a Myers-Perry black hole background are unstable, and (ii) the instability timescale of equatorial null geodesics in Myers-Perry spacetimes has a local minimum for spacetimes of dimension d > 5.Comment: 13 pages, 2 Figs, RevTex4. v2: Minor corrections. v3: more minor correction

Os grãos de pólen apresentam morfologia variada para cada grupo de espécies de plantas, permitindo a identificação dos tipos polínicos. Nesse sentido, por meio de análises qualitativas e quantitativas das cargas polínicas coletadas pelas abelhas durante a extração do néctar floral, denominada de melissopalinologia, torna-se possível determinar períodos de floração e origens botânica e geográfica do mel. O objetivo deste trabalho foi identificar o perfil polínico de méis silvestres de abelhas Apis mellifera, oriundos do apiário do campo experimental da Embrapa Meio-Norte, no município de Campo Maior, PI
