Consistent Treatment of Relativistic Effects in Electrodisintegration of the Deuteron
The influence of relativistic contributions to deuteron electrodisintegration
is systematically studied in various kinematic regions of energy and momentum
transfer. As theoretical framework the equation-of-motion and the unitarily
equivalent S-matrix approaches are used. In a (p/M)-expansion, all leading
order relativistic -exchange contributions consistent with the Bonn OBEPQ
model are included. In addition, static heavy meson exchange currents including
boost terms, -currents, and -isobar contributions
are considered. Sizeable effects from the various relativistic two-body
contributions, mainly from -exchange, have been found in inclusive form
factors and exclusive structure functions for a variety of kinematic regions.Comment: 41 pages revtex including 15 postscript figure
Complementary geometric and optical information for match-propagation-based 3D reconstruction
International audienceIn this work, we consider the problem of propagation-based matching for 3D reconstruction, which deals with expanding a limited set of correspondences towards a quasi-dense map across two views. In general, propagation based methods capture well the scene structure. However, the recovered geometry often presents an overall choppy na-ture which can be attributed to matching errors and abrupt variations in the estimated local affine transformations. We propose to control the reconstructed geometry by means of a local patch fitting which corrects both the matching locations and affine transformations throughout the propagation process. In this way, matchings that propagate from geo-metrically consolidated locations bring coherence to both positions and affine transformations. Results of our approach are not only more visu-ally appealing but also more accurate and complete as substantiated by results on standard benchmarks
Computer-aided dermoscopy for diagnosis of melanoma
BACKGROUND: Computer-aided dermoscopy using artificial neural networks has been reported to be an accurate tool for the evaluation of pigmented skin lesions. We set out to determine the sensitivity and specificity of a computer-aided dermoscopy system for diagnosis of melanoma in Iranian patients. METHODS: We studied 122 pigmented skin lesions which were referred for diagnostic evaluation or cosmetic reasons. Each lesion was examined by two clinicians with naked eyes and all of their clinical diagnostic considerations were recorded. The lesions were analyzed using a microDERM(Âź )dermoscopy unit. The output value of the software for each lesion was a score between 0 and 10. All of the lesions were excised and examined histologically. RESULTS: Histopathological examination revealed melanoma in six lesions. Considering only the most likely clinical diagnosis, sensitivity and specificity of clinical examination for diagnosis of melanoma were 83% and 96%, respectively. Considering all clinical diagnostic considerations, the sensitivity and specificity were 100% and 89%. Choosing a cut-off point of 7.88 for dermoscopy score, the sensitivity and specificity of the score for diagnosis of melanoma were 83% and 96%, respectively. Setting the cut-off point at 7.34, the sensitivity and specificity were 100% and 90%. CONCLUSION: The diagnostic accuracy of the dermoscopy system was at the level of clinical examination by dermatologists with naked eyes. This system may represent a useful tool for screening of melanoma, particularly at centers not experienced in the field of pigmented skin lesions

How animal agriculture stakeholders define, perceive, and are impacted by antimicrobial resistance: challenging the Wellcome Trustâs Reframing Resistance principles
Humans, animals, and the environment face a universal crisis: antimicrobial resistance (AR). Addressing AR and its multidisciplinary causes across many sectors including in human and veterinary medicine remains underdeveloped. One barrier to AR efforts is an inconsistent process to incorporate the plenitude of stakeholders about what AR is and how to stifle its development and spreadâespecially stakeholders from the animal agriculture sector, one of the largest purchasers of antimicrobial drugs. In 2019, The Wellcome Trust released Reframing Resistance: How to communicate about antimicrobial resistance effectively (Reframing Resistance), which proposed the need to establish a consistent and harmonized messaging effort that describes the AR crisis and its global implications for health and wellbeing across all stakeholders. Yet, Reframing Resistance does not specifically engage the animal agriculture community. This study investigates the gap between two principles recommended by Reframing Resistance and animal agriculture stakeholders. For this analysis, the research group conducted 31 semi-structured interviews with a diverse group of United States animal agriculture stakeholders. Participants reported attitudes, beliefs, and practices about a variety of issues, including how they defined AR and what entities the AR crisis impacts most. Exploration of Reframing Resistanceâs Principle 2, âexplain the fundamentals succinctlyâ and Principle 3, âemphasis that this is universal issue; it can affect anyone, including youâ reveals disagreement in both the fundamentals of AR and consensus of âwhoâ the AR crisis impacts. Principle 2 may do better to acknowledge that animal agriculture stakeholders espouse a complex array of perspectives that cannot be summed up in a single perspective or principle. As a primary tool to combat AR, behavior change must be accomplished first through outreach to stakeholder groups and understanding their perspectives
