H^+H^- Pair Production at the Large Hadron Collider
We study the pair production of charged Higgs bosons at the CERN Large Hadron
Collider in the context of the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard
model. We compare the contributions due to qq-bar annihilation at the tree
level and gg fusion, which proceeds at one loop. At small or large values of
tan(beta), H^+H^- production proceeds dominantly via bb-bar annihilation, due
to Feynman diagrams involving neutral CP-even Higgs bosons and top quarks,
which come in addition to the usually considered Drell-Yan diagrams. In the
case of gg fusion, the squark loop contributions may considerably enhance the

Finding optimal strategies for minimum-error quantum-state discrimination
We propose a numerical algorithm for finding optimal measurements for
quantum-state discrimination. The theory of the semidefinite programming

Novel Approach to Confront Electroweak Data and Theory
A novel approach to study electroweak physics at one-loop level in generic
theories is introduced. It separates the 1-loop
corrections into two pieces: process specific ones from vertex and box
contributions, and universal ones from contributions to the gauge boson
propagators. The latter are parametrized in terms of four effective form
factors , , and corresponding to the , , and
propagators. Under the assumption that only the Standard Model contributes to
the process specific corrections, the magnitudes of the four form factors are
determined at and at q^2=\mmz by fitting to all available precision
experiments. These values are then compared systematically with predictions of
theories. In all fits \alpha_s(\mz) and
\bar{\alpha}(\mmz) are treated as external parameters in order to keep the
interpretation as flexible as possible. The treatment of the electroweak data
is presented in detail together with the relevant theoretical formulae used to
interpret the data. No deviation from the Standard Model has been identified.
Ranges of the top quark and Higgs boson masses are derived as functions of
\alpha_s(\mz) and \bar{\alpha}(\mmz). Also discussed are consequences of
the recent precision measurement of the left-right asymmetry at SLC as well as

Flavor Physics and the Triviality Bound on the Higgs Mass
The triviality of the scalar sector of the standard one-doublet Higgs model
implies that this model is only an effective low-energy theory valid below some
cut-off scale . The underlying high-energy theory must include flavor
dynamics at a scale of order or greater in order to give rise to the
different Yukawa couplings of the Higgs to ordinary fermions. This flavor
dynamics will generically produce flavor-changing neutral currents and
non-universal corrections to Z -> b b-bar. We show that the experimental
constraints on the neutral D-meson mass difference imply that must be
greater than of order 21 TeV. We also discuss bounds on from the
constraints on extra contributions to the K_L - K_S mass difference and to the
coupling of the Z boson to b-quarks. For theories defined about the
infrared-stable Gaussian fixed-point, we estimate that this lower bound on
yields an upper bound of approximately 460 GeV on the Higgs boson's

Photon and Z induced heavy charged lepton pair production at a hadron supercollider
We investigate the pair production of charged heavy leptons via
photon-induced processes at the proposed CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC).
Using effective photon and Z approximations, rates are given for
production due to fusion and fusion for the cases of
inelastic, elastic and semi-elastic collisions. These are compared with
the corresponding rates for production via the gluon fusion and Drell-Yan
mechanisms. Various and differential luminosities

Extending Sensitivity for Low-Mass Neutral Heavy Lepton Searches
We point out the importance of two-body final states of weak isosinglet
neutral heavy leptons predicted in several models of new physics beyond the
standard model. We concentrate on muon-type neutral heavy leptons
with mass GeV which can be searched for with increased sensitivity at a
new round of neutrino experiments at CERN and Fermilab. Providing explicit
decay rate formulae for the , , , ,
, and final states, we use general scaling features to
estimate sensitivity of searches in current and future experiments,

Study of KS KL Coupled Decays and KL -Be Interactions with the CMD-2 Detector at VEPP-2M Collider
The integrated luminosity about 4000 inverse nanobarn of around phi meson
mass ( 5 millions of phi mesons) has been collected with the CMD-2 detector at
the VEPP-2M collider. A latest analysis of the KS KL coupled decays based on 30
% of available data is presented in this paper.
The KS KL pairs from phi meson decays were reconstructed in the drift chamber
when both kaons decayed into two charged particles. From a sample of 1423
coupled decays a selection of candidates to the CP violating KL into pi+ pi-
decay was performed. CP violating decays were not identified because of the
domination of events with a KL regenerating at the Be beam pipe into KS and a
background from KL semileptonic decays.
The regeneration cross section of 110 MeV/c KL mesons was found to be 53 +-
17 mb in agreement with theoretical expectations. The angular distribution of
KS mesons after regeneration and the total cross section of KL for Be have been

'Support our networking and help us belong!': listening to beginning secondary school science teachers
This study, drawing on the voice of beginning teachers, seeks to illuminate their experiences of building professional relationships as they become part of the teaching profession. A networking perspective was taken to expose and explore the use of others during the first three years of a teacherâs workplace experience. Three case studies, set within a wider sample of 11 secondary school science teachers leaving one UK universityâs PostGraduate Certificate in Education, were studied. The project set out to determine the nature of the networks used by teachers in terms of both how they were being used for their own professional development and perceptions of how they were being used by others in school. Affordances and barriers to networking were explored using notions of identity formation through social participation. The focus of the paper is on how the teachers used others to help shape their sense of belonging to this, their new workplace. The paper develops ideas from network theories to argue that membership of the communities are a subset of the professional interârelationships teachers utilise for their professional development. During their first year of teaching, eight teachers were interviewed, completing 13 semiâstructured interviews. This was supplemented in Year 2 by a questionnaire survey of their experiences. In the third year of the programme, 11 teachers (including the original sample of eight) were surveyed using a network mapping tool in which they represented their communications with people, groups and resources. Finally, three of the teachers (common to both samples) were then interviewed specifically about their networking practices and experiences using the generation of their network map as a stimulated recall focus. The implications of the analysis of these accounts are that these beginning teachers did not perceive of themselves wholly as novices and that their personal aspirations to increase participation in practical science, develop a career or work for pupils holistically did not always sit comfortably with the school communities into which they were being accommodated. While highlighting the importance of trust and respect in establishing relationships, these teachersâ accounts highlight the importance of finding âpeersâ from whom they can find support and with whom they can reflect and potentially collaborate towards developing practice. They also raise questions about who these âpeersâ might be and where they might be found
