Soybean maturity group and planting date effects on seed yield and population densities of Heterodera glycines
Au cours de deux séries d'expérimentations factorielles ont été étudiés les effets de la classe de précocité et de la date du semis du soja sur les rendements en grains du soja et sur les taux de populations d'#Heterodera glycines$, le nématode à kyste du soja (SCN). La première série d'expérimentations a évalué les effets de semis en mai ou juin pour des cultivars de soja appartenant à deux classes de précocité (V et VI, hâtive et tardive), avec ou sans traitement nématicide, dans quatre localisations différentes (environnements différents) de la Caroline du Nord en 1986 et 1987. La deuxième série d'expérimentations a comparé les effets de trois dates de semis (avril, mai et juin) pour des cultivars de soja appartenant à quatre classes de précocité (IV à VII) dans six localisations différentes, de 1989 à 1992. Les semis tardifs ont provoqué une diminution significative (P < 0.05) des taux de population initiale (Pi) du SCN. La date de semis provoque un effet généralement significatif, mais impossible à prédire, sur les taux de population finale (Pf) du SCN. Les différences liées aux dates de semis et aux localisations des expérimentations sont probablement à l'origine des taux de Pf plus ou moins élevés. Le taux de Pf du SCN a été toujours plus élevé (P < 0.0001) avec les cultivars tardifs qu'avec les cultivars précoces. Les rendements du soja ont été plus élevés avec des semis précoces et avec des traitements nématicides (P < 0.05), mais pas avec des semis tardifs, probablement en relation avec la baisse des taux de Pi du SCN associée aux semis tardifs. Use of novel sensors combining local positioning and acceleration to measure feeding behavior differences associated with lameness in dairy cattle
Time constraints for dairy farmers are an important factor contributing to the under-detection of lameness, resulting in delayed or missed treatment of lame cows within many commercial dairy herds. Hence, a need exists for flexible and affordable cow-based sensor systems capable of monitoring behaviors such as time spent feeding, which may be affected by the onset of lameness. In this study a novel neck-mounted mobile sensor system that combines local positioning and activity (acceleration) was tested and validated on a commercial UK dairy farm. Position and activity data were collected over 5 consecutive days for 19 high-yield dairy cows (10 lame, 9 non-lame) that formed a subset of a larger (120 cow) management group housed in a freestall barn. A decision tree algorithm that included sensor-recorded position and accelerometer data was developed to classify a cow as doing 1 of 3 categories of behavior: (1) feeding, (2) not feeding, and (3) out of pen for milking. For each classified behavior the mean number of bouts, the mean bout duration, and the mean total duration across all bouts was determined on a daily basis, and also separately for the time periods in between milking (morning = 0630–1300 h; afternoon = 1430–2100 h; night = 2230–0500 h). A comparative analysis of the classified cow behaviors was undertaken using a Welch -test with Benjamini-t Hochberg post-hoc correction under the null hypothesis of no differences in the number or duration of behavioral bouts between the 2 test groups of lame and nonlame cows. Analysis showed that mean total daily feeding duration was significantly lower for lame cows compared with non-lame cows. Behavior was also affected by time of day with significantly lower mean total duration of feeding and higher total duration of nonfeeding in the afternoons for lame cows compared with nonlame cows. The results demonstrate how sensors that measure both position and acceleration are capable of detecting differences in feeding behavior that may be associated with lameness. Such behavioral differences could be used in the development of predictive algorithms for the prompt detection of lameness as part of a commercially viable automated behavioral monitoring system

Automated Certification of Authorisation Policy Resistance
Attribute-based Access Control (ABAC) extends traditional Access Control by
considering an access request as a set of pairs attribute name-value, making it
particularly useful in the context of open and distributed systems, where
security relevant information can be collected from different sources. However,
ABAC enables attribute hiding attacks, allowing an attacker to gain some access
by withholding information. In this paper, we first introduce the notion of
policy resistance to attribute hiding attacks. We then propose the tool ATRAP
(Automatic Term Rewriting for Authorisation Policies), based on the recent
formal ABAC language PTaCL, which first automatically searches for resistance
counter-examples using Maude, and then automatically searches for an Isabelle
proof of resistance. We illustrate our approach with two simple examples of

Understanding the Emergent Structure of Competency Centers in Post-implementation Enterprise Systems
Part 3: Structures and NetworksInternational audiencePrior research provides conflicting insights about the link between investment in enterprise systems and firm value and in the ES governance mechanisms. The literature generally suggests that management should cultivate its technical and organizational expertise to derive value from currently deployed Enterprise Systems (ES) [8]. In the realm of practice, ERP vendors and configuration/integration partners strongly recommend the creation of an organizational structure to govern the ERP implementation and post-implementation process to improve project success and extract greater value from the ES investment. The ES literature, while unclear on the formation, and functioning of ES governance units, suggests the need for formal and fixed governance structures. This research utilizes Deleuze’s assemblage theory and emergence theory to explain the genesis and evolution of the governing ‘structure’ known as the Competency Center (CC). Our results illustrate the business needs driving the structuring processes behind the CC, are also those that lead to unintended and destabilizing outcomes. Whether the CC ‘assemblage’ survives to provide value depends on how the emergent issues are handled and how the assemblages are “positioned”. This research suggests effective ES governance is not derived from a prescribed step-wise process yielding formal structures, but rather form an organic process of assemblage

We calculate using molecular dynamics simulations the transport properties of
realistically modeled fluid argon at pressures up to and
temperatures up to . In this context we provide a critique of some newer
theoretical predictions for the diffusion coefficients of liquids and a
discussion of the Enskog theory relevance under two different adaptations:
modified Enskog theory (MET) and effective diameter Enskog theory. We also
analyze a number of experimental data for the thermal conductivity of

Height and risk of death among men and women: aetiological implications of associations with cardiorespiratory disease and cancer mortality
OBJECTIVES: Height is inversely associated with cardiovascular disease mortality risk and has shown variable associations with cancer incidence and mortality. The interpretation of findings from previous studies has been constrained by data limitations. Associations between height and specific causes of death were investigated in a large general population cohort of men and women from the West of Scotland.
DESIGN: Prospective observational study.
SETTING: Renfrew and Paisley, in the West of Scotland.
SUBJECTS: 7052 men and 8354 women aged 45-64 were recruited into a study in Renfrew and Paisley, in the West of Scotland, between 1972 and 1976. Detailed assessments of cardiovascular disease risk factors, morbidity and socioeconomic circumstances were made at baseline.
MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Deaths during 20 years of follow up classified into specific causes.
RESULTS: Over the follow up period 3347 men and 2638 women died. Height is inversely associated with all cause, coronary heart disease, stroke, and respiratory disease mortality among men and women. Adjustment for socioeconomic position and cardiovascular risk factors had little influence on these associations. Height is strongly associated with forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) and adjustment for FEV1 considerably attenuated the association between height and cardiorespiratory mortality. Smoking related cancer mortality is not associated with height. The risk of deaths from cancer unrelated to smoking tended to increase with height, particularly for haematopoietic, colorectal and prostate cancers. Stomach cancer mortality was inversely associated with height. Adjustment for socioeconomic position had little influence on these associations.
CONCLUSION: Height serves partly as an indicator of socioeconomic circumstances and nutritional status in childhood and this may underlie the inverse associations between height and adulthood cardiorespiratory mortality. Much of the association between height and cardiorespiratory mortality was accounted for by lung function, which is also partly determined by exposures acting in childhood. The inverse association between height and stomach cancer mortality probably reflects Helicobacter pylori infection in childhood resulting inor being associated withshorter height. The positive associations between height and several cancers unrelated to smoking could reflect the influence of calorie intake during childhood on the risk of these cancers
An Equation of State of a Carbon-Fibre Epoxy Composite under Shock Loading
An anisotropic equation of state (EOS) is proposed for the accurate
extrapolation of high-pressure shock Hugoniot (anisotropic and isotropic)
states to other thermodynamic (anisotropic and isotropic) states for a shocked
carbon-fibre epoxy composite (CFC) of any symmetry. The proposed EOS, using a
generalised decomposition of a stress tensor [Int. J. Plasticity \textbf{24},
140 (2008)], represents a mathematical and physical generalisation of the
Mie-Gr\"{u}neisen EOS for isotropic material and reduces to this equation in
the limit of isotropy. Although a linear relation between the generalised
anisotropic bulk shock velocity and particle velocity was
adequate in the through-thickness orientation, damage softening process
produces discontinuities both in value and slope in the -
relation. Therefore, the two-wave structure (non-linear anisotropic and
isotropic elastic waves) that accompanies damage softening process was proposed
for describing CFC behaviour under shock loading. The linear relationship
- over the range of measurements corresponding to non-linear
anisotropic elastic wave shows a value of (the intercept of the
- curve) that is in the range between first and second
generalised anisotropic bulk speed of sound [Eur. Phys. J. B \textbf{64}, 159
(2008)]. An analytical calculation showed that Hugoniot Stress Levels (HELs) in
different directions for a CFC composite subject to the two-wave structure
(non-linear anisotropic elastic and isotropic elastic waves) agree with
experimental measurements at low and at high shock intensities. The results are
